Watch 6 Minutes of FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA

Mad Max: Fury Road introduced us to Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa in 2015. We haven’t stopped thinking about the inimitable character since. She blazed across the dusty Wasteland and into our souls. Fury Road writer and director George Miller hasn’t let go of her either. In 2019, he expressed interest in making two more Mad Max movies—one of them being a prequel story about Furiosa. Filming for that tale began in 2022. And now, finally, we have our first trailer and images for the film starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a young Furiosa. And we’ve even learned where in the franchise timeline the movie takes place and more about the movie’s cast, including the reasoning for the Furiosa recast. It was all worth the wait because Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga looks amazing.

You can now check out six full minutes from Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. If that doesn’t get you revved up for the film, we don’t know what will!

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Trailer and Synopsis

The trailer teases Furiosa’s origins and Taylor-Joy showing, even in a couple minutes, how much she is embracing the powerful role. She has a large shaved head to fill, but by all appearances, she’s doing just fine. Set 45 years after the Collapse, Furiosa must find her way home. And we know the world, so we know it won’t be easy. Knowing how her story continues makes watching her challenging odyssey somewhat easier. Only somewhat. And Chris Hemsworth as Warlord Dementus? We’re already sold.

Furiosa: A Mad Max’s Saga official synopsis is as follows:

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Casting Updates

We recently learned that Immortan Joe will now be played by Lachy Hulme. Hulme replaces Immortan Joe’s original actor from Mad Max: Fury Road, Hugh Keays-Byrne, who passed away in 2020. Hulme will also play Rizzdale Pell, a gang member who follows Hemsworth’s Dementus in the movie.

Lachy Hulme will play Immortan Joe in Furiosa: A Mad Max SagaWarner Bros.More About Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: Timeline, Recast, and Other Intel

Director George Miller additionally clarified where Furiosa fits on the Mad Max franchise timeline. He shared, “This story happens 15 years directly before Mad Max: Fury Road, and it runs straight into it, and Max is lurking around somewhere in this story, but it’s really the story of Furiosa and how she got to be… A lot of the film will be familiar, and a lot of it’s new, which we haven’t seen before.”

Additionally, Miller has revealed why he chose to recast the role of Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Of course, Charlize Theron originally played the role in Mad Max: Fury Road. However, instead of using digital de-aging technology, Miller opted for a recast of the Furiosa role, bringing Anya Taylor-Joy into the prequel movie.

Furiosa recast from Mad Max Fury Road Charlize Theron and Anya Taylor JoyWarner Bros.

Miller shared the reasoning behind the recast with Empire Magazine, which we saw via IGN. He notes, “It definitely would have been Charlize [had Furiosa been filmed before Fury Road]… I began thinking, ‘Oh, maybe we could do de-aging.’ Then I watched really masterful filmmakers like Ang Lee and Martin Scorsese, doing Gemini Man and The Irishman, and I saw that it hadn’t been licked. All you’d be watching is, ‘Look how well the technology works?’ It would not have been persuasive.” And that’s really fair enough.

With all this in mind, get us back to the Wasteland now, please and thank you. Miller wrote the script with Nico Lathouris and is back in the director’s role.

When Is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga‘s Release Date?

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga arrived in theaters on May 24, 2024.

Travis Kelce Has Joined the Cast of Ryan Murphy’s GROTESQUERIE

According to Deadline, football player (and Taylor Swift boyfriend) Travis Kelce has been cast in Ryan Murphy’s latest FX horror series, Grotesquerie.

Sharing a popular sentiment, Kelce expressed some shock over his own casting. He revealed, “I was kinda blown away and kinda, like, shocked that he [Murphy] was willing to give me a role like this, because it is a big role on the show. He seemed very confident that I’d be able to do this and he kinda injected that in me the first conversation that we had. So hopefully, I don’t bomb this for him.”

Travis Kelce joins Ryan Murphy FX horror series GrotesquerieNBC/Ryan Murphy

Hopefully, Murphy won’t ask Kelce to say the series’ name five times fast. If the reports are correct, this turn in Grotesquerie marks Kelce’s first Hollywood role. He’ll join Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville in the Ryan Murphy show.

Few details are yet available about Grotesquerie. But we imagine it will be… grotesque.

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER Sequel Gets Summer 2025 Release Date

In the ‘90s, Scream led to a swath of teen ensemble horror franchises like Final Destination and I Know What You Did Last Summer. It’s now officially back into the game with last year’s hit movie and another film coming soon. So, it is not surprising that the franchise is inspiring others to dust off their dormant universes and return back for more gore. Deadline reports that an I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel will release on July 18, 2025. Additionally, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are expected to return. We will have to wait and see what this next terrible summer includes.

photo of jennifer love hewitt and freddie prinze jr as julie and ray in i know what you did last summer Columbia Pictures

If they do come back, the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel will likely follow a format similar to what we saw in Scream (2022). Legacy characters like Julie James and Ray Bronson will return to help newer people get through a horrific antagonist is a win for longtime fans and new ones, too. It would be interesting, though, considering that the last time we saw these I Know What You Did Last Summer characters, it seemed that the hooked killer was about to murder them. Of course, this could have simply been Julie’s bad dream. Thankfully, a canceled fourth film with their confirmed deaths didn’t take place. If Julie James and Ray Bronson come back for an I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, it will be interesting to see if they are still together and what their lives are like decades later.

Rockstar Shares GRAND THEFT AUTO VI Trailer and Sets Release Window

Rockstar Games announced a trailer reveal event for Grand Theft Auto VI, the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, for December 5. However, someone on X leaked it a day early. Given that, Rockstar let go of its December 5 launch. The game publisher officially released the GTA VI trailer a day early, saying simply, “Our trailer has leaked so please watch the real thing on YouTube.” The GTA VI trailer confirms two important things. Grand Theft Auto will return to Vice City, and GTA VI will arrive in 2025. Recently, that release window was also narrowed to fall of 2025.

Watch the sun-soaked, alligator-filled action here:

Vice City appeared back in the fourth entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. Based on Miami, that story followed a mobster and how he gained power with a criminal empire. GTA VI‘s main character is Lucia. It’s the game series’ first female protagonist in its 20+ year history. The trailer starts with Lucia in prison, but later she’s out and doing crime. It seems she’s pulling someone else into her crimes, saying they need to be a team and stick together.

Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games said in a release. “We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”

We’re sure it’s going to work out fine. We won’t worry about it too much. Instead, we’ll just be excited that new Grand Theft Auto is finally on the way after a 10-year break.

M3GAN 2.0 Sets June 2025 Release Date

If there’s one thing horror fans love, it’s an icon they can root for. And root they have! Early and often. One of the first theatrical releases of 2023, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s M3GAN has made a whole heap of cash and its titular robotic moppet has marched into the hearts of fans everywhere. Kind of like a mix of the Terminator and Chucky in the guise of a little girl. Except M3GAN is way saltier and likable. (She did nothing wrong!) And those myriad successes have allowed the studios to announce a sequel. M3GAN 2.0 will now drop on June 27, 2025, slightly pushed out from its initially planned January release. And that means plenty of time to master that dance, friends.

The evil robot toy M3GAN stands menacingly inside an elevatorUniversal

We originally learned the info from The Wrap who report the whole band will be back together for M3GAN 2.0. Stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will return, with the original film’s screenwriter Akela Cooper penning the script. Williams will produce with Atomic Monster founder James Wan and Blumhouse founder/CEO Jason Blum. The movie has made over $91 million in its two weeks of release against a $12 million budget. That is a hefty win for both Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. Cooper and Wan co-wrote Wan’s 2021 nutso horror flick Malignant, so we hope this means we’ll get a sequel where M3GAN has to fight Gabriel, the back-of-the-head evil of twin. We can dream, can’t we?

Shin Hati holds up her orange lightsaber over her head on AhsokaLucasfilm

Additionally, Deadline recently reported that Ahsoka‘s Ivanna Sakhno will play a “major role” in M3GAN 2.0. What that role entails exactly remains under wraps for now.

The first film followed Cady (McGraw) having to stay with her aunt Gemma (Williams) following the tragic death of her parents. Luckily for the young, grieving girl, her aunt is a robotics genius who has made a life-size robot toy prototype who learns from a child its paired with. That robot is, of course, M3GAN, who takes it upon herself to protect Cady, physically and violently if necessary. And it’s necessary a lot of times.

We look forward to M3GAN (2.0) and her new murderous exploits.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S 2 Will Release in December of 2025

The massive box office success of the video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s last Halloween took everyone by surprise. Though to many, this adaptation of a beloved game has been years in coming. So of course, a Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel is in play. We may get it soon, too. Star Josh Hutcherson, while speaking to Variety, said “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible.” He added that his The Hunger Games co-star Jennifer Lawrence even texted him after the film’s big success. She told him “My movie’s #1 on Netflix, and yours is #1 at the box office! Let’s go!” This news was recently confirmed at CinemaCon, where Universal revealed the Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel was officially a go.

Josh Hutcherson is stalked by possessed animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy's. Universal Pictures/Blumhouse

So, just how soon is soon? Universal and Blumhouse have confirmed the Five Night’s at Freddy’s sequel will have a release date of December 2, 2025. If this seems too soon, remember it’s not uncommon for big horror franchise films. At its peak, the Saw franchise was putting out a movie once a year. During their ’80s heyday, the Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street franchises dropped a movie a year too. For a Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel to shoot in mere months makes sense. That could mean a release around Halloween 2024.

In true Blumhouse fashion, the studio made Five Nights at Freddy’s for only $20 million dollars, and its box office gross finished out at $300 million worldwide. Even more amazing is that the movie made so much at the domestic box office even though it also streamed on Peacock. The fanbase really wanted the theatrical experience for this one. The Blumhouse way has always been about making low-budget horror and getting huge returns on their investments. And Five Nights at Freddy’s is one of their biggest successes in this regard.

SHŌGUN Seasons 2 and 3 Are In the Works at FX

Although it sounded like Shōgun would be a 10-episode mini-series and no more, it’s not really very surprising that FX has reversed course in light of the show’s popularity. FX has officially confirmed that it is working on more seasons of Shōgun. A release shares that, in fact, a Shōgun season two and a season three are very likely.

Shogun Lord Toranaga, Hiroyuki Sanada, FX

A release shares:

FX, Hulu and the Estate of James Clavell are working to extend the critically acclaimed global hit drama Shōgun, moving forward to develop the saga with two additional seasons of the drama series.

The show’s key creative partners including Co-Creators, Executive Producers and Writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, Executive Producer Michaela Clavell, and series star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada are on board for the development. Production timing has not been locked in, but a writers’ room is being assembled and will begin this summer.

Additionally, the release notes, “The story and characters are intended to continue the saga.” We can’t wait to see Hiroyuki Sanada return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga.

Ultimately, Shōgun was a thoughtful, authentic, and well-crafted entry into the world of television. We would not be sad to see a Shōgun season two.

Marvel Comics Reveals Storm of the X-MEN Will Become an Avenger, Get New Solo Series

Things are about to change big time in the X-Men universe over at Marvel Comics. After five years of living on the mutant island of Krakoa and leading the most powerful nation on Earth, the mutants have lost it all. Again. Yet the X-Men thrive in adversity, which is the theme for the upcoming “From the Ashes” relaunch. We already know of new iterations of X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and other legacy titles. But now Marvel has revealed that two iconic X-Women are leading the charge with solo books of their own. And one of them is also becoming an Avenger at last.

Storm, the iconic X-Man and powerful Kenyan Weather Goddess, will officially join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers #17 this coming August. This issue, from writer Jed McKay, will also mark the debut of new series artist Valerio Schiti, who most recently drew Jonathan Hickman’s G.O.D.S. Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel on Ororo Munroe’s induction into the Avengers, as well as cover art for Avengers #17.

The cover art for Avengers #17, the induction of Storm into the team. Art by Joshua Cassara. Marvel Comics

Krakoa’s tragic fall has made the Avengers realize how vital a mutant voice on the team is, and they’ll settle for nothing less than the most prominent and beloved mutant super hero on the planet! A pop culture icon, Storm has assembled with the Avengers before—in both comics as well as other forms of media—but never like this! Not only will the Avengers need her Omega-level power for the battles ahead, but they’ll need to rely on her unique expertise and leadership skills as MacKay’s overarching plots involving Kang, the Twilight Court, and more kick into high gear. This only marks the beginning of what’s shaping up to be a monumental period for Storm as she’ll also headline an all-new solo ongoing series launching later this year!

Avengers writer Jed Mckay added the following:

When we were putting together thoughts for X-Men, one problem kept coming up—Storm needed to have a presence in a book befitting her status, but it would be weird for her to be on an X-Men team if she wasn’t the leader. The solution was simple—she needed to be on the global stage, among equals, and what better place for that than the Avengers? We’re excited to bring Storm back to the Avengers and show what adventures she’ll get up to as part of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!

Storm will be on the team with her ex-husband Black Panther. Also on the team are the Scarlet Witch and the Vision. Two divorced couples saving the world on the same team? Now that should be fodder for all kinds of great superhero melodrama. Yet that’s not all for Ororo. She’ll also be joining her BFF Jean Grey in finally landing an ongoing solo series, along with another iconic X-Woman, Dazzler.

Ororo Munroe has never needed a throne to rule the skies. ⛈️ See her elevate to new heights in all her Omega-level glory in a new #MarvelComics solo series ‘Storm,’ landing this October. Read more: https://t.co/7xpesJHaAr pic.twitter.com/iPrKwFox87

Storm will be brought to life by African creator Murewa Ayodele (Moon Knight: Black, White, and Blood and I Am Iron Man), and Lucas Werneck, the superstar artist known for his work on recent X-Men epics like Immortal X-Men. Werneck also designed a stunning new costume for Storm’s exciting new venture into solo storytelling. The tagline says “Mutants no longer have a homeland. But they still have a queen.” Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel:

Storm has always been a prime protector of the planet. With the loss of Krakoa, that position becomes more important to her than ever. From her new super hero headquarters, Storm begins making decisions that will forecast the future of the Marvel Universe. Her bold actions will stir forces around and even beyond Earth, calling forth enemies that match her strength and determination.

The first female mutant to get her own solo series way back in 1981 was mutant pop star Dazzler. A byproduct of the disco age, Alison Blaire’s solo adventures ran for five years and 42 issues. In these stories, she became a Herald of Galactus, a love interest of the cosmic Beyonder, and more. She eventually became an X-Man, and Marvel just announced her first solo series since 1986. The tagline for her new series says “Her world tour begins.” Is this Dazzler’s very own “Eras Tour?” She’s certainly had plenty of them. Her new four-issue series is from writer Jason Loo and artist Rafael Loureiro launches in September.

— Marvel Entertainment (@Marvel) May 15, 2024

No stranger to headlining, Alison Blaire enjoyed a successful solo career outside the X-Men in the 1980s with the fondly remembered and long-running Dazzler series. Now, she’s back to inspire a whole new generation, spreading a message of love and acceptance one sold-out show at a time. Her tour is for everyone, but backstage, Allison is joined by a crew of fellow mutants: head of security Domino, personal guard Strong Guy, one-man roadie Multiple Man, drummer Shark Girl, and expert publicist Wind Dancer! Anti-mutant fervor has never felt more personal, but anyone who tries to dim Dazzler’s light will just have to face the music!

There are still more “From the Ashes” announcements to come. Some X-Men remain unaccounted for. Hey, where the heck is Iceman? And Colossus? Honestly, we can’t wait to see where our favorite mutants all land.

FALLOUT’s Ella Purnell To Star in Killer Squirrels Horror-Comedy Movie, THE SCURRY

In 2024 Ella Purnell survived ghouls, robots, cannibals, underground cults, giant cockroaches, and her own creepy father. Now she’ll have to fight survive something even stranger: killer squirrels. The Fallout star has joined the cast of the upcoming squirrel-centric horror-comedy movie, The Scurry.

Screen Daily reports Purnell (Yellowjackets) has signed on for a leading role in True Brit’s film about psychotic rodents. This squirrel horror-comedy movie comes from The Phantom of the Open‘s Craig Roberts and is currently filming in the UK. The film originally cast House of the Dragon‘s Olivia Cooke. She dropped out because of a reported scheduling conflict. As has Mia McKenna-Bruce.

Purnell is said to be taking on the role of “a park attendant who must use her unique skills and strength to survive a band of killer squirrels.” Yes, killer squirrels are in this movie, hence The Scurry. Here’s the film’s official synopsis from True Brit:

Two pest controllers are called to an eco-café in a country park to investigate what begins as a routine vermin problem – but as nightfall approaches an avalanche of deranged squirrels descend, wreaking revenge and mayhem on the staff and visitors in the park. With many fatalities the survivors take shelter in the café as a freak storm takes out the power and communications leaving them isolated and under attack. An eclectic mix of survivors include pest controllers, a sulky teenager, hypocritical vegans, and a drug dealer – there is only an outside chance of survival…

If we had a nickel…

Despite Cooke dropping out House Hightower will still make their presence felt in the film. Rhys Ifans will carry the Hightower banner as a cast member in this squirrel movie. Paapa Essiedu (The Lazarus Project) and Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor) will also get in on the horror film “with comedic undertones.”

If they need any help surviving this squirrel attack in this movie they know who to turn to. Ella Purnell knows how to survive just about anything at this point, especially an off-kilter world of killer monsters.

SUPERMAN & LOIS to End With Season 4, Final Episodes Will Release in the Fall

Superman & Lois’ upcoming fourth season will officially be its last, according to news we saw at The Hollywood Reporter. The series, which premiered in 2021, has been one of the best iterations of the Man of Steel mythos ever. Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane instantly won over the hearts of DC Comics fandom. But with The CW changing ownership, their programming is undergoing an overhaul as well, with fewer scripted shows. The final season of Superman & Lois will release as a part of The CW’s 2024-25 schedule and will arrive in the fall.

Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the titular stars of the CW's Superman and Lois.CW/Warner Bros. Television

In a statement, The CW’s Brad Schwartz said the following:

“Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe. We are grateful for the years of hard work and graceful storytelling from the show’s writers, producers, actors, and crew, as well as our terrific partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. As Superman embarks on his final flight, the team is leaving us with an absolutely epic 10-episode must-watch-every-minute farewell to one of the most legendary CW families ever.”

The end of Superman & Lois shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, for many reasons. With James Gunn launching a new DCU and Superman: Legacy in 2025, he probably wants only one iteration of Superman in live-action. He also wants one consistent DC Universe across film and TV. This means the old Arrowverse (of which Superman & Lois is technically a spinoff) must come to an end.

The cancelation of Superman & Lois marks the true end of an era. Since 2012, after the debut of Arrow, producer Greg Berlanti launched a staggering 11 DC Comics-based shows. These include The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Batwoman, and for Max, Stargirl, Doom Patrol, and Titans. The last two were Gotham Knights and Superman & Lois. We just hope that knowing the show has an endpoint in advance will allow the writers to craft a fitting finale for the Kent family.
