Marvel Sets VISION Series for 2026, Paul Bettany to Return as White Vision

Years after his last appearance on WandaVision, Paul Bettany is suiting up as Vision once again in a Disney+ series set for 2026. Marvel is moving full steam ahead with the project and, according to Variety, Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas will be the showrunner for its Vision TV series. The show will follow White Vision, who now has his original memories and flew off to explore the world. Surely there is some comic precedent that the show can glean from, but it will be a while before we know anything else.

As far as Wanda, she was presumed dead after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but she will likely return to the MCU. We will have to wait and see when she comes back and if she runs across this version of Vision.

THE WITCHER Shares First Look at Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt in New Teaser

Netflix has responded to internet sleuths and set hounds obsessed with capturing unofficial images of the Continent’s new monster hunter by giving us an official look at him. The streamer has shared its first trailer with Liam Hemsworth’s as Geralt of Rivia on The Witcher. And while this promo doesn’t reveal anything about season four, it does show the White Wolf still loves wearing black.

The Henry Cavill era of The Witcher is truly over. Netflix has shared its first season four teaser, and this promo isn’t about the show or its upcoming story. The Witcher is all about its new star, Liam Hemsworth. He’s replacing Cavill, who left the show after season three.

This moody first-look The Witcher teaser features Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt walking with his horse through a murky swamp. It’s a setting we’ve seen the character in many times, reminding us that although the actor has changed the part has not. However, the promo opens with Geralt’s face covered by mist and shadows. The camera then zooms in on his medallion and black clothes. But just when it seems this might be a giant tease, Liam Hemsworth turns around and stares at the camera with his yellow mutant Geralt eyes.

THE WITCHER Shares First Look at Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt in New Teaser_1Netflix

Yup, that’s Geralt. Or at least “a Geralt.” At this point it’s still weird to think of anyone but Cavill in the role. That’s why this early look at Liam Hemsworth as The Witcher‘s Geralt is so important. It’s not about letting us see what he looks like in a white wig. It’s about getting viewers used to this new iteration of the character. Hemsworth and is Geralt are going to lead the way over the course of the fantasy series’ final two seasons, which will film back-to-back.

Some fans will never get over the change, but if both season four and Liam Hemsworth are good, that group will grow smaller with every new The Witcher episode. Now we just need a release date trailer to tell us when we’ll get them. It’s one thing to see the new Geralt. It’s another to see him in action.

Henry Cavill Leaving THE WITCHER, Liam Hemsworth Joining as Geralt

In the words of Geralt of Rivia, “F***.” In a truly stunning development, Netflix has announced Henry Cavill is leaving The Witcher after season three. The show isn’t ending with his departure, though. The Hunger Games‘ Liam Hemsworth will replace Cavill as the White Wolf on The Witcher. Netflix also officially confirmed season four of the show with its announcement that Liam Hemsworth will take the helm.

Henry Cavill Leaving THE WITCHER, Liam Hemsworth Joining as Geralt_1Netflix

Just a week after formally returning to the role of Superman in Black Adam, Henry Cavill is saying goodbye to another famous role. The avowed fan of The Witcher, Cavill, who once begged Netflix for the part, will not return as Geralt when The Witcher does in season four. The upcoming third season will be his last. This news of Cavill’s departure from The Witcher comes despite his previously stated commitment to doing seven seasons.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” said Cavill in a statement about his departure from The Witcher. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

A man, Henry Cavill, dressed in black leatherNetflix

While the news of Cavill’s Witcher recast is certainly surprising, all of the speculation on social media that has followed is not. Fans want to know why this happened. Without an official answer, The Witcher fans are trying to make sense of the recasting news. Some have said Cavill has simply decided to focus on making movies. (And his return to the character of Superman could mean he has no time for a TV series.) Others think it’s an issue of money. And some believe fundamental disagreements with the show’s direction and depiction of Geralt led to his departure. Whatever the cause, Cavill is out on The Witcher, and Liam Hemsworth is in, and he has a mighty white wig to fill. But while Hemsworth knows that, he sounds excited for the challenge of playing Geralt. You can take your first look at Hemsworth in the role, below.

“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” said Hemsworth. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

As huge fans of the The Witcher, Cavill, and his portrayal of Geralt, this is obviously disappointing news. But we’re still going to give Hemsworth a chance. The Witcher is a great show. We want it to succeed and continue entertaining us. And besides, the Continent still has plenty of monsters running around. Someone needs to fight them.

First STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE Clip Showcases Epic Hand-to-Hand Battle

The next few years are going to bring about many exciting Star Wars series to Disney+, including Ahsoka and further adventures for The Mandalorian and Andor. But one, in particular, announced in 2020, is The Acolyte.

Although we expect to see lots of lightsaber action, the first clip released for The Acolyte shows off some epic hand-to-hand fighting between Mae and Sol. Take a look below.

Of course, there is also lightsaber fun a-plenty. In its latest trailer, Star Wars: The Acolyte canonized a cool variant weapon into the live-action series. We get to see Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh’s purple lightsaber turn into a lightwhip.

After receiving a Force vision, Rwoh learned how to manipulate the blade of her lightsaber into a whip known as the lightwhip. Though the extended blade is a bit weaker than that of a traditional lightsaber, the whip form is undoubtedly useful and unquestionably cool.

Here’s everything we know about The Acolyte, a set a century before the events of the Skywalker Saga.

Title

The official title for the upcoming Lucasfilm Star Wars series is The Acolyte. Its official title may or may not wind up as Star Wars: The Acolyte.

The Acolyte’s Plot

The Acolyte‘s trailer gives us our first good look at the series, which cautions that even in times of peace, evil is always rising. A synopsis shared with the trailer reveals:

In “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….

When Disney officially announced the series back in December 2020, we got a slightly different description, which noted:

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

We’ve also learned that the drama unfolds about a century before the events of The Phantom Menace, during a time when the Sith were still in hiding, getting ready to make their move to take over the galaxy. Aside from canon novels, the High Republic is an era totally unexplored in any live-action or animated Star Wars projects.

Leslye Headland is on board as writer and producer. Headland also directed the premiere episodes (Eps. 101 & 102). A release shares, “Directors Kogonada (Eps. 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Eps. 104 & 105) and Hanelle Culpepper (Eps. 106 & 108) round out the directing duties on the series.”

— Star Wars (@starwars) November 7, 2022

The Acolyte‘s cast is turning out better than we could have imagined. Playing the lead role in the show is Amandla Stenberg, recently seen in Bodies Bodies Bodies. Joining Stenberg are Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Joonas Suotamo. Suotamo is playing a Wookiee and Henderson will portray Vernestra Rwoh. This High Republic character was one of the youngest ever to become Jedi Knight. Of course, we’ll see her much older in this Star Wars series.

In The Acolyte, the green-skinned Jedi Master, played by Rebecca Henderson, is a cool 116 years old and lives in the temple on Coruscant. In an interview with Empire, series creator Leslye Headland affirms that Rwoh is the only character from that book series who will be in The Acolyte …at least, for now. Headland speaks more on the character’s personality, saying she’s been through a lot. “That has resulted in her going from this fun-seeking adventurer character [in the books], to a little bit closer to the [type of] Jedi that we see in The Phantom Menace.”

The Acolyte will release on June 4, 2024. It will premiere with its first two episodes.

THE BOYS Showrunner Wants to Cast Jared Padalecki for Future Role

The Boys just might offer us a Supernatural Winchester family reunion. Jensen Ackles’ played the villainous Soldier Boy in season three and will reprise that role this season alongside Jeffrey Dean Morgan joining the cast in a mysterious capacity. So that’s Dean and his father John Winchester right there. Now, The Boys showrunner and Supernatural creator Eric Kripke hopes to bring Jared Padalecki to this universe to complete the trinity. Padalecki’s schedule is a bit more open now following the unfortunate cancellation of his Walker series.

Jared Padalecki with Jensen Ackles in Supernatural

“Texts have been sent,” said Kripke to Entertainment Weekly shortly before the cancellation news dropped. “I feel like it would be a bummer to not have Jared on the show one way or another at this point, even if it’s just the one-episode thing. He’s been shooting Walker, but with that show wrapping up, maybe he’ll have some time to come in and play with us. I would love it. We have definitely talked about it.”

We don’t know if it will be a complete family reunion, per se. Jared Padalecki possibly coming to The Boys wouldn’t happen this season because it is already done. There’s certainly hope for season five; however, there’s a chance that Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character and/or Soldier Boy could be legit dead by then. We will see what happens but, either way, we are totally down for it.

The MCU X-MEN Reboot Movie Has a Writer Attached

It’s the news that Marvel mutant fandom has been waiting patiently for over five years for. According to a report in Deadline, Marvel Studios is officially ramping up for their big-screen reintroduction of the X-Men franchise. Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes screenwriter Michael Lesslie is in negotiations to write the script for the new X-Men MCU movie. The film is still very early in the development process, without a director attached and no release date yet. With the massive success of X-Men ’97 on Disney+, and the return of Hugh Jackman as Logan for Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems Kevin Feige realized now is the time to get the ball rolling. MCU X-Men, here we come!

Jim Lee's gatefold cover for X-Men #1.Marvel Comics

Besides the Hunger Games prequel, Lesslie wrote an adaptation of Macbeth starring former Magneto Michael Fassbender. He was also the lead writer on the series The Little Drummer Girl, featuring  Florence Pugh, Michael Shannon, and Alexander Skarsgard. In terms of genre productions, he wrote the original script for the 2016 version of Assassin’s Creed. Rumors abound that the new X-Men reboot movie will focus on the X-women more than the men. Other rumors suggest the MCU X-Men film will focus on newer characters, pushing aside the likes of Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, and Wolverine. Given the success of X-Men ’97, however, we wonder if Marvel Studios will stick to those plans.

The real question here is whether or not these new MCU mutants will arrive in enough time for the Avengers: Secret Wars movie. Right now, that film is set to premiere in 2027. Part of the appeal would be to have the X-Men participate in that giant event, along with the Avengers and Fantastic Four. The assumption was the X-Men we see in Secret Wars might be the original Fox actors. However, the fast-tracking of the X-Men reboot movie suggests they might wait until we have a new X-Men team in place. Perhaps we’ll learn more around Comic-Con and D23 time later this summer.

STAR TREK ‘Starfleet Origin Story’ Movie Will Feature Humankind’s First Alien Contact

Paramount is making yet another attempt at a Star Trek feature film. The studio confirmed the news at CinemaCon 2024. Toby Haynes, who directed episodes of Andor, will direct this newest Trek film, with screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith providing the script. Now, via The Hollywood Reporter, we’ve also learned that Simon Kinberg, writer/director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix is coming on board as a producer. In terms of plot, all we know is that it takes place decades before the events of J.J. Abram’s 2009 Star Trek, technically the eleventh Trek feature overall, which launched a trilogy.

The original report says the new Star Trek film will take place “Likely around modern times.” It will involve the creation of the Starfleet, and “humankind’s first contact with alien life.” Sound familiar? That’s because that’s what Star Trek: First Contact and the TV series Enterprise were about. So most Trek fans find themselves baffled at this news. The plan is for the new Star Trek movie to release in 2025. Abrams’ Bad Robot will remain as producers. A fourth Star Trek film featuring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the rest of that cast remains in the works, too.

A scene from Star Trek: First Contact showing humanity's first meeting with Vuclans.Paramount Pictures

The last Star Trek feature film to hit theaters was 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond. Whenever this new Trek movie arrives, it will be the longest gap between Star Trek films since the long-running franchise launched with 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The longest gap until now was between 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis, the fourth and final film in the saga of Captain Picard’s crew, and the 2009 reboot. Although Star Trek has been missing in movie theaters all these years, it has been thriving on streaming television, with series like Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, and most recently, Strange New Worlds.

When Will This New Star Trek “Origins” Movie Release? The rebooted Enterprise from J.J. Abrams' Star Trek feature film (2009)Paramount Pictures

No word yet on when production is meant to commence on this film, but as mentioned, the film has a release window of 2025. Hopefully, it will fare better than those other announced Star Trek movies that never got off the ground.

Deadpool Could Appear in a Future X-MEN ’97 Season After All

Not long ago, former X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo indicated on social media that Deadpool was an “off-limits” character for them to use on the series. Now, it seems that rule might not be a forever rule, and future seasons might include Wade Wilson in all his glory. While talking to Screen Rant, Marvel Animation’s Brad Winderbaum clarified the Deadpool situation regarding X-Men ’97, and hinted that we just might see him pop up in future seasons. Here’s what he had to say about everyone’s favorite Merc with the Mouth:

I don’t know that it was like a hard and fast rule that we couldn’t use Deadpool. We would have had to have an insanely compelling reason to bring Deadpool in. Because we’re also developing the feature simultaneously. So, unless it was something that really was an undeniable creative idea, it seemed like, ‘Why would we do it?’ But also, I’ll say, the season is so chock-full of big, giant, amazing fulfilling ideas that throwing Deadpool in there almost feels like arbitrary at a certain point. Is there a potential for Deadpool to come in? Absolutely, he was in the original series, briefly as we all know, and certainly we’re all fans, so we’ll see what happens.

Deadpool in animated form from 2013's Ultimate Spider-Man, and Wolverine from X-Men '97.Marvel Animation

Several years back, Marvel announced a Deadpool animated series for FX with Donald Glover in charge. However, they canceled it before airing a single episode. Maybe Ryan Reynolds didn’t want anyone else playing him on the regular. A guest appearance on an X-Men show may not be as hard to pull off though. If and when Deadpool shows up, it will likely have something to do with Wolverine’s Weapon X days. With Logan no longer having his adamantium skeleton, he might need help to get it back. Who better to enlist than another survivor of the same program like Wade?

We imagine any version of Deadpool on X-Men ’97 would be significantly more toned down than the big-screen iteration. After all, X-Men ’97 isn’t really a show where one drops f-bombs left and right. A “safe for kids” version appeared in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon back in 2013 on Disney XD. So there is precedent for this to happen.

Having said that, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ryan Reynolds played the role in X-Men ’97 when the time comes. This is not something we expect to see in the near future. In the meantime, we’ll have to be content with the live-action X-Men meeting Wade in Deadpool & Wolverine.
