Explore George Lucas’ Museum of Narrative Art

Since its inception 55 years ago, San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) has grown to become THE convention for major news in genre. Every year, thousands of geeks and nerds come to Cali to pack into panels and see their favorite creators and stars onstage. From big moments like Robert Downey, Jr.’s reveal as Doctor Doom to smaller delights like the dealer areas and parties, SDCC is the place to be. While it seems like everyone who is someone in the genre space has attended this major con, that’s not true. Star Wars creator George Lucas went to San Diego Comic-Con for the first time ever in 2025.

UPDATE 9/4/2025: Here’s a look at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which he spoke about during his panel.

PREVIOUS: That’s pretty wild considering the first Star Wars panel came to the con back in 1976. It was a year before the first film hit theaters and changed everything we know about pop culture. Since then, many stars and executives from Star Wars have come to this big convention. And finally after years of choosing to forgo SDCC, George Lucas will be there as a panelist.

an image of shocked Grogu from The MandalorianDisney+Which Panel Will George Lucas Be in at SDCC and What Time Is It?

He will be joined by Guillermo del Toro and artist and Star Wars prequels production designer Doug Chiang. The panel will dig into the power of illustrated stories and give fans their first look at the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The museum will open sometime in 2026. This George Lucas SDCC panel will happen on Sunday in the infamous Hall H.

“We are beyond thrilled to welcome George Lucas to Comic-Con for the very first time,” said David Glanzer, chief communications and strategy officer of Comic-Con. “Nearly five decades ago, Star Wars made one of its earliest public appearances at our convention, along with a booth featuring Howard Chaykin’s now legendary Star Wars poster as a promotional item.

“Now, to have Mr. Lucas return, this time to debut the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, is a true full-circle moment. His lifelong dedication to visual storytelling and world-building resonates deeply with us and our community, and the museum’s mission to celebrate narrative art in all its forms perfectly reflects what Comic-Con has championed from the very beginning.”

YouTube Will Stream All Five TWILIGHT Films for Free This Month

Recently, we learned that Twilight will bring all of its movies to theaters for one big marathon celebration. That’s pretty exciting, but there are also fans who cannot enjoy this for several reasons. Some fans (like yours truly) are in more remote areas where their local theater may not be doing the Twilight film franchise marathon. And other fans may have health reasons why they cannot go to a theater. Thankfully, there’s a solution to this problem. According to Deadline, YouTube will stream all five Twilight movies for free starting on September 7 at noon Pacific time.

JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL Might Inspire a DCU Justice Gang

It’s pretty clear from Superman and from their scene in Peacemaker that James Gunn’s Justice Gang team is very inspired by DC Comics’s ‘80s/’90s series Justice League International. That comic by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire introduced a version of the League without many of its most famous heroes, led by billionaire Maxwell Lord. Prominent members included Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Metamorpho. Sound familiar? Although the DCU team goes by the name Justice Gang, the clear inspiration was Justice League International. Could Gunn be setting up the DCU for a series or film based on the JLI, but simply going by the name Justice Gang instead?JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL Might Inspire a DCU Justice Gang_1DC Studios/DC Comics

We have a strong feeling that the title Justice League is being reserved for an eventual film with DC’s heaviest hitters. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. A Justice League in live-action is a rare occurrence, so you want to make sure all the “Big Guns” are there. We actually think it’ll likely be based on the animated series roster. But in the meantime, a Justice Gang project could thrive while we wait for the All-Stars to team up. We think a series on HBO Max would work better than a movie, if only because the classic JLI comics have an episodic, sitcom-like nature.

Covert art from Kevin Maguire for Justice League International.DC Comics

But which characters would they include? Well, the ones already established in Superman, naturally. Although we do think Mister Terrific deserves his own team. But the best JLI comics had the following heroes in them, and we think the Justice Gang should, too. Here’s who we think Maxwell Lord needs to recruit into his Justice Gang when it’s their time to shine.

Blue Beetle and Booster GoldDC Comics best buddy heroes Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.DC Comics

Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) and Booster Gold were two heroes who DC tried to launch in the mid-’80s. But neither of their series really clicked with readers. When DC canceled their books prematurely, they found a home for them in JLI, where they became the team’s lovable losers. Both were tech former billionaires who lost everything, who now only had the superhero thing going for them. Not to mention, a mutual love of chasing women. They became best friends, among the best friendships DC Comics has ever published. Gunn revealed that Booster would get his own DCU show in 2023. But they should really have him do double duty along with his best bud Ted in a Justice Gang project.

Fire and IceThe Brazilian heroine Fire and the Norwegian hero Ice from Justice League International.DC Comics

These two ladies were the definition of Z-list characters before they joined the JLI. As the Green Flame and Icemaiden, they were the heroic representatives of Brazil and Norway, respectively, in the little-known team known as the Global Guardians. Created for the Super Friends comics, they only made a handful of appearances before Justice League International reintroduced them as Fire and Ice. They became the female “BFFs” counterparts to Blue & Gold, and essential members of the team. Ice was often the love interest of Guy Gardner, usually the only person who could see past his jerk persona.

Mister Miracle and Big Barda Mister Miracle and his wife Big Barda, the New Gods heroes of DC Comics.DC Comics

We know that we’re getting an animated adaptation of the excellent Tom King and Mitch Gerads Mister Miracle series for HBO Max. And we assume it will be part of the DCU, like Creature Commandos. If so, then why not bring in live-action versions of Mister Miracle and his wife, Big Barda, into the Justice Gang? In the comics, Mister Miracle is really escape artist Scott Free, the adopted son of Darkseid. His wife Barda was one of Darkseid’s former foot soldiers, the Female Furies. They escaped the evil planet Apokolips for a comfortable life in the carnival (and living in the suburbs). But both were key members of the JLI. They are one of comics’ best husband/wife teams, and we’d love to see a Gunn version of them in live-action.

ShazamShazam and Guy Gardner interact in the pages of Justice League International.DC Comics

Yes, we know we just had a Shazam in the DCEU. And since the last movie was a big money loser for Warner Bros., they’re not likely to go back to the iteration ever again. So no, we don’t mean the version played by Zachary Levi. But Shazam (or Captain Marvel as they called him then) was an early member of the JLI. The “kid in an adult body” angle was perfect for the comedic approach to the comic book, and it is perfect for Gunn’s sensibilities too. Since the character is not likely to get a solo project anytime soon, why not use this iconic hero here? Recast of course.

Martian Manhunter (J’onn J’onzz)The Martian Manhunter and his favorite snacks, Choco Cookies.DC Comics

The field leader of the JLI, J’onn J’onzz is one of the founding members of the Justice League. But he’s rarely carried his own solo comic book series, at least not for long. So we doubt DC Studios is planning a Martian Manhunter series or film. In the comics, he works best as the heart of the Justice League, the orphaned alien from Mars who finds a home with a group of dysfunctional human heroes. While he definitely needs to stand alongside Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman in a proper Justice League movie, there’s no reason a Justice Gang show can’t be the place to introduce him to the DCU. Also, Gunn has said he wants Peacemaker season one actor Chukwudi Iwuji to play a different DCU role in the future. He’d be the ideal Manhunter from Mars.

Some other key JLI members who would be perfect include stretchy hero Elongated Man, and his wife, Sue. Rocket Red from Russia is another one, although his personality is possibly too similar to Red Guardian at Marvel. But if Gunn chooses to go the JLI route with his Justice Gang, the comics offer several options for members. If any project is secretly in the planning stages, we certainly hope it’s a JLI-inspired Justice Gang getting the spotlight.

What the Title MAN OF TOMORROW Could Mean for the SUPERMAN Sequel

We officially have a name and release date for the next iteration of James Gunn’s Superman in the DCU, and it’s titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow. This is actually the second Superman movie with this title, as there was a straight-to-video animated film of the same name released in 2020. That was an origin story, so we doubt that project will inspire Gunn’s in any way. But what does the name (and the image included with the reveal) tell us? And is this still a “Super family movie,” and not just a new Superman II with David Corenswet, as Gunn has suggested? First, let’s dive into the title itself. It’s a lesser-used term to describe Superman than the often-used “Man of Steel” and “Last Son of Krypton.”

Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027

James Gunn (@jamesgunn.bsky.social) 2025-09-03T16:46:31.775Z

The term “The Man of Tomorrow” was first used for Superman very early in his publication history. It appeared in New York World’s Fair Comics #1, back in 1939. This is just one year after Superman’s debut in Action Comics #1. The actual New York World’s Fair was all about celebrating the exciting “World of Tomorrow.” It even had an exhibit called “Futurama.” (Nope, Matt Groening did not come up with that title.) Because of this, DC saw fit to give this new sci-fi hero that nickname. In the minds of his creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman represented all their hopes for a brighter future, amid the Great Depression and looming war. That’s definitely something James Gunn leaned into in his iteration of the character.

What the Title MAN OF TOMORROW Could Mean for the SUPERMAN Sequel_1DC Comics

By the time issue two of World’s Fair Comics hit in 1940, the Man of Tomorrow was centered on the cover. He appeared there along with DC’s new hit characters, Batman and Robin. This second (and last) issue of World’s Fair Comics was the first time Batman and Superman shared a cover together. This cemented them as the publisher’s biggest assets. However, the two didn’t appear in a story together. That wouldn’t happen until 1952, believe it or not. This is despite World’s Finest Comics featuring Superman and Batman together on the cover for almost a decade. Fun fact; the first person to ever portray Superman was at the World’s Fair in 1940, an actor named Ray Middleton. But, we digress. By 1940, “Man of Tomorrow” had become a term frequently used to describe Superman.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow #1 from 1995, and Superman: City of Tomorrow from 2001.DC Comics

Decades later, in the ’90s, Superman: The Man of Tomorrow would become the title of a regular series. It ran from 1995 to 1999, lasting sixteen issues. Why just sixteen issues over that many years? Because DC Comics published Man of Tomorrow only in months with five weeks instead of four. They designed this to fill in the gaps of series like Superman, Action Comics, Man of Steel, and Adventures of Superman. That way, fans were assured a new Superman chapter every single week of the year, no matter what. In the wake of The Death and Return of Superman, Kal-El had become one of DC’s biggest sellers again. They wanted to make sure fans got a weekly dose of the Metropolis Marvel without fail. (Now, don’t expect “Metropolis Marvel” to be the name of a DC Studios movie, for obvious reasons.)

Superman vs. Lex Luthor in his power suit.DC Comics

Man of Tomorrow as a sobriquet evokes Superman’s optimistic side more than his strength (Man of Steel) or status as a refugee (Last Son of Krypton). So this means that Gunn’s new movie is leaning into those themes. So we expect some big sci-fi ideas at play. We see Lex in his power suit in the released image, indicating these two are going to duke it out. But what if they also team up? We already know Brainiac might be the villain. Superman and Lex vs. Brainiac, possibly along with Supergirl and Krypto, feels like a natural next step. In the 2001 story, “City of Tomorrow,” Brainiac gives Metropolis a high-tech upgrade. Could that be a hint of what we’ll see? One thing we’re sure of, with a title like Man of Tomorrow, we know that brightness and hope for the future are once again on the menu.

Gaga Is Truly Mother Monster in Tim Burton ‘Dead Dance’ Video

Lady Gaga is making a much heralded appearance in the second half of Wednesday season two, as the Nevermore Academy Professor, Rosaline Rotwood. This character is a great addition to Gaga’s list of spooky roles, like the vampiric Countess on American Horror Story: Hotel. And of course, the iconic singer used the opportunity to debut a new song, “The Dead Dance,” in a video helmed by Wednesday director Tim Burton. Gaga plus Burton feels like a match made in weirdo heaven. You can watch the full video for “The Dead Dance” in all of its haunted glory down below:

The mostly black and white video begins in a spooky hut somewhere out in a haunted forest. We see Gaga in full cracked porcelain doll makeup, surrounded by what looks like hundreds of creepy old dolls. And in some cases, just doll heads. She looks like a sexier version of Bette Davis in the classic horror film Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? Now magically animated back to life, the disco dance party starts, and the nightmare fuel dolls spring to life and get their groove on. It’s all very Tim Burton, and we can’t help but wonder if Gaga’s look was also a nod to The Corpse Bride as well, and the old crone from Sleepy Hollow.

Gaga Is Truly Mother Monster in Tim Burton ‘Dead Dance’ Video_1Lady Gaga/VEVO

The first season of Wednesday famously used a remix of Lady Gaga’s 2011 song “Bloody Mary.” This went viral and helped give the song new life a decade after it was released. So it’s only fitting that Mother Monster would appear in the show herself and create a new song for it. We all know Tim Burton loves to work with the same actors again and again. So who knows? Maybe we’ll see her in a future Tim Burton film now. We’ll take any new Burton/Gaga collaborations we can get.

Tom Holland Says Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Is the ‘Best Script I’ve Ever Read’

Christopher Nolan took home his first two Oscars for Oppenheimer. In 2024, he won both Best Director and Best Picture for his atomic bomb opus. Despite the film’s massive success, he did not nab the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He lost to American Fiction‘s Cord Jefferson. But if Tom Holland is right, Nolan will soon add that golden statue to his shelf. The Spider-Man star said Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey is “the best script I’ve ever read.”Matt Damon as Odysseus in The Odyssey, wearing Grecian Empire garb.Universal Pictures

France 24 covered Holland’s recent chat with Agence France-Presse (an interview we first heard about at Deadline), where he discussed his time filming Nolan’s upcoming adaptation. The writer-director is bringing Homer’s iconic epic poem to the big screen. Actually, he’s bringing it to the biggest screen, as it will be the first movie ever filmed entirely with IMAX cameras.

Holland plays Telemachus, son of Matt Damon’s Odysseus, in the movie. Needless to say he’s a huge fan of what Nolan is doing. In addition to saying the script is the best he’s ever come across, he also praised how the Nolan works. Holland called him a “real collaborator” who “knows what he wants” while not creating an “environment where you can’t pitch ideas or build characters in certain ways.” He also previously said working on the film was “the job of a lifetime” and “the best experience” he has ever had on a set.

Tom Holland Says Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY Is the ‘Best Script I’ve Ever Read’_1Universal Pictures

The only thing missing from Holland’s comments are an offering of his best goat and a table of his finest nectar and ambrosia. But we get it. Christopher Nolan knows what he’s doing, and Oppenheimer more than proves he definitely knows how to adapt great source material. And if Holland is right about what Nolan wrote, he’ll get that Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 2027. The Odyssey debuts on July 17, 2026.

Sophie Turner Is Playing Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s TOMB RAIDER Series

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s upcoming Tomb Raider series has officially found its Lara Croft in Sophie Turner. There’s been speculation about her involvement since late 2024 but, in a recent Variety report, Amazon MGM Studios finally confirmed the big news. Many of us know her best for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. We know that she can certainly dial up the badassery when needed, but her portraying the famous globe-trotting adventurer is not something we ever thought would be true. Sophie Turner Is Playing Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s TOMB RAIDER Series_1HBO

Sophie Turner will begin filming the upcoming Tomb Raider series on January 19, 2026. In addition to Waller-Bridge’s involvement, Chad Hodge is hopping on the creative team as an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside her.

“I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team,” Waller-Bridge said about this thrilling news. “It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming…”

We can’t wait to see how this all comes together. Of course, Sophie is also very hype about taking on a role made famous by Angelina Jolie. “I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft,” Turner added. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”

We welcome you to the adventures, Sophie.

James Gunn Sets SUPERMAN Sequel MAN OF TOMORROW for Summer 2027

Well, that didn’t take long. And it won’t take long, either. Co-CEO and creative head of the DCU, James Gunn, has announced his Superman sequel. The DCU’s Man of Tomorrow will arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027. And when it does, the Man of Steel will be facing off against his greatest enemy once again. Only this time, Lex Luthor is coming fully armed for the fight. (Although they are looking kind of friendly in the new DCU art for the Superman sequel released below.)

Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027

James Gunn (@jamesgunn.bsky.social) 2025-09-03T16:46:31.775Z

Gunn took to social media to announce he’s not wasting any time getting to work on a sequel to his hit superhero film. A second Superman movie called Man of Tomorrow will debut in the summer of 2027, just two years after the original premiered. The Superman sequel film gets its title from one of Clark Kent’s many monikers.

As we mentioned, the writer-director-studio head also shared a brand-new illustration from DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer himself, Jim Lee, in celebration of Man of Tomorrow. It would seem to tease a major aspect of the film. The new Man of Tomorrow art shows a very casual Man of Steel leaning up against Lex Luthor. The brilliant supervillain, who ended Gunn’s Superman in handcuffs, is shown wearing his Power Suit. The character often used that suit in DC Comics during the early ’80s so he could actually fight Superman. While it has made occasional appearance since, it mostly went away post-Crisis when DC reinvented Luthor from a Superman-hating mad scientist to a billionaire CEO. Older fans will also remember the Power Suit from the ’80s Super Powers toy line. Newer fans will definitely be seeing it in a new toy lineup soon enough, as the DCU sequel gets closer to hitting theaters.

Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, super bald, in SupermanWarner Bros. Pictures

How will Superman defeat a mecha Lex in Man of Tomorrow? If this playful illustration is any sort of hint he’ll be using a screwdriver. Because no matter how smart Lex Luthor might be, no one can overcome the power of a simple tool. Especially if a powerful Kryptonian is using it.

David Corenswet’s SUPERMAN Audition Tape Proves He Was Born to Play Clark Kent

Stars David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult are certainly ready for that fight. They both shared Man of Tomorrow additional illustrations showing their characters in a fierce hand-to-hand battle.

Of course, we doubt it’ll be easy for Clark Kent to defeat his greatest enemy. It’ll probably be a little more complicated than pulling out a screwdriver and unscrewing some screws. And we’ll find out soon enough how much harder it is. James Gunn is, fittingly, moving faster than a speeding bullet to get his next Superman movie out. We can’t wait to see more of all our favorite heroes and villains when Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027. In addition to Corenswet’s Clark Kent/Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced also took to her Instagram stories to confirm Hawkgirl’s involvement in the movie. Rachel Brosnahan is additionally expected to return as Lois Lane.
