How Did the Fifteenth Doctor and Belinda Chandra Meet in DOCTOR WHO?
Doctor Who season two’s premiere episode, “The Robot Revolution,” introduces us to Belinda Chandra, the latest companion to join the series. Belinda’s origin story is pretty simple so far by Doctor Who standards. She’s a hardworking nurse who becomes the hostage of clunky robots from a planet bearing her name, thanks to an ex-boyfriend. The Doctor works to save Belinda and help liberate the planet from her ex, who is now a massive AI machine. And now she’s a reluctant companion whom he cannot get home for some mysterious reason. So, how did the Doctor and Belinda Chandra meet in the Doctor Who season two premiere?
Towards the beginning of the episode, we see Belinda working her shift at a busy hospital. In the midst of that, the Doctor is walking around the facility and causing chaos. One person even tells Belinda that there’s a doctor looking for her and she cheekily says that there always is. Later that night, robots from Belindachandra destroy her quiet abode and apprehend her. Right when they take off in a retro spaceship, the Doctor comes careening in and screaming her name.

The duo finally meet on Belindachandra. It is where the Doctor has been quietly hanging out and working as the planet’s designated historian for six months waiting for her arrival. He is in the throne room when she arrives, obviously confused about her royal wedding. Who would want to marry an AI bot and turned into a machine?
Their first interaction involves them communicating in code, using every ninth word to have a conversation before chaos breaks out. Later on, Fifteen properly introduces himself, even allowing Belinda to see an X-ray of his two hearts. The Doctor says that someone told him about Belinda Chandra. This person said that her name would be very important, so that’s why he came to save her.
We don’t know who that “he” is yet but surely we will find out this season. The duo cycle between Belinda not trusting him and her following his lead, proving herself to be quite competent in this dangerous situation. So, that’s basically how the Doctor and Belinda Chandra meet each other.
Following their epic adventure, she calls the Doctor out for the many deaths that took place, taking her DNA without permission to draw a conclusion about her familial connection to Mundy Flynn, and for trying to make her into his adventure. She wants to go home but they cannot return to May 24, 2025 for some mysterious reason. We are ready to let the good times roll with Belinda Chandra and the Doctor.

Russell T Davies Says DOCTOR WHO ‘The Robot Revolution’ Was Inspired by a British Rock Star
“The Robot Revolution” kicks Doctor Who season two off with a story full of adventure, tense moments, a dash of heartbreak, and, well, robots. It starts off by taking us to the past to meet Belinda Chandra when she gets a gift from a guy that changes her life decades later: a star named after her. That star becomes Belindachandra, a planet ruled by an evil AI bot that’s on the brink of revolution. Belinda gets whisked there by robots and the Doctor is on the job, ready to save her and help liberate this planet. This episode, written and directed by showrunner Russell T Davies, is a delightful way to begin a new companion’s journey.
It gives us an adventure that tests her skills to stay calm under pressure. And, like all great companions, she is innovative and can make the right choice on the spot. She gets to showcase how the Doctor needs a nurse, someone who is compassionate, firm, and ready to save others. But, we also get larger seasonal mysteries, including more about her connection to Mundy Flynn and why the TARDIS cannot return to Earth on May 24, 2025, the day she’s due to start her new job. Why can’t the TARDIS land? Are there other distant relatives that Belinda Chandra will meet? Is there a deeper connection between her and the Doctor? We will get answers to these questions in the midst of adventures.

The concept for “The Robot Revolution” is actually an idea that Russell T Davies crafted years ago. “A lot of people for birthday presents or for wedding anniversaries have a star named after them,” Davies said to Nerdist. “So for a very long time I’ve been thinking to myself, ‘What if the people who lived on that star accepted you as their ruler and came to get you?’ It’s a Doctor Who story that’s been ticking away in my mind for a long time.”
Davies even reveals a real-life story involving a rock band star that further inspired “The Robot Revolution.” He continues, “There’s a rock singer in Britain called Justin Hawkins, who is the lead singer in a band called The Darkness. A photograph of him as a boy was put on one of the Voyager spacecrafts that’s been traveling for years. I’ve known that for decades. And I’ve always thought, ‘What if the robots one day turn up looking for Justin Hawkins? They would think he’s the king of planet Earth.’ And when it came to inventing a new companion, it was actually the production team who said it’s time to do my Belinda story. For years I’ve been sort of saying, ‘Imagine a woman called Belinda and robots come and get her.’ So they pointed out to me that this was a perfect example to do it.”
One of Russell T Davies’ favorite aspects about this episode was crafting the world of Belindachandra. He told us that he’s loving many sci-fi shows like Andor. However, he wanted to make sure this world didn’t mimic them. So, Davies decided that the planet would have a 1950s retro look with an old-fashioned space rocket. And, from a storytelling perspective, it made more sense to have technologically outdated robots believe that Belinda Chandra would be their queen.
“It would be a bit odd if high tech droids turned up thinking that,” he affirmed. “But because these are kind of old-fashioned 1950s robots, you kind of don’t question the fact that they’re getting it very wrong. It suits the story that you’re not just being retro for a stylistic wind. They’ve actually got old fashioned manners as well. Even though they’re wielding ray guns, the way they talk is quite formal. So everything in the story starts to coalesce around one idea.”
In the end, the people of Belindachandra regain control of their planet. And Belinda Chandra is off to the stars with the Doctor, albeit reluctantly. Where will they go next? We will have to see as Doctor Who season two progresses.

DOCTOR WHO’s Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu on Their TARDIS Team’s Chemistry and Dynamic
Doctor Who season two is off to a thrilling start, taking us straight to space for a robot-filled adventure. Aptly titled “The Robot Revolution,” we meet the show’s new companion Belinda Chandra, a determined and compassionate nurse who fits right in with the Doctor. Together, the pair end up on a strange planet that’s on the brink of a revolution. They fight alongside its residents and unexpectedly find themselves in the midst of a new and dangerous mystery that’s preventing Belinda from going home. We caught up with Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu to talk about this fun new TARDIS team and how Belinda stands out from the companion crowd.
Nerdist: This question is for you, Varada! Unlike so many other companions who are in awe of the Doctor and ready to embark on an adventure with him, Belinda is not that way at all. She calls him out for causing deaths and taking her DNA without permission. She doesn’t want to be his big mystery nor his companion. What do you think this tells us about her overall personality and what kind of traveling partner she will be for the Fifteenth Doctor?
Varada Sethu: That’s a very good question! I think it says that she’s so independent and she has her own way of thinking about things. She has her own life that she wants to go back to. She’s not swept up by somebody who comes in and saves the day, but also creates a lot of mess. And she calls them out on all of that. I think a lot of this probably comes from her career [as a nurse]. Belinda is innately a very caring person and very opinionated. You see that at the beginning of the episode as well, where she speaks to her ex and stands up to him.

Because she’s a nurse, she deals with high stakes all the time, having to make a call, think on her feet, find humor in quite dark situations, and be able to hold compassion and a sense of caring for someone. But at the same time, she has to have boundaries and not let a person take advantage. Nurses have to deal with all sorts of stuff day in, day out… And I think all of those are skills and strengths that she brings to the TARDIS. She stands up to the Doctor and doesn’t have a problem in calling him out on craziness!
That’s a great point. The same qualities a doctor needs, whether it’s a traditional one or our Doctor, are what nurses need too. Ncuti, how do you think that the Fifteenth Doctor will continue to evolve with someone like Belinda in his life?
Ncuti Gatwa: I think that she will enrich his life and relationships going forward. And [their relationship] teaches him to be a bit more human, even though he’s very proudly an alien… you can’t have “yes” people around you all the time. You need someone that’s going to call you out and that holds you accountable. It makes you a better person. I love Fifteen and Belinda’s relationship because it is really beautiful and very healthy. They truly see each other as well. And that’s something that you see time and time again throughout the series. They see each other’s vulnerabilities and they have to this season because they’re up against so much together.
They face a lot just in the first episode, so I cannot wait to see what’s next. Varada, how do you think Belinda evolves this season? She’s in a situation that she doesn’t want to be in, and she’s seeing so many things that she’s never seen before.

Sethu: Well, there’s the mystery that they can’t figure out why they can’t go back to Earth on a particular date. And this makes her a better person because she has to make the best of what she’s given in that moment. There’s no other choice. So she has to form a deep bond and friendship and trust with the Doctor. I think it makes her a more open person. She meets new people and she’s always looking for a connection.
I think what I love most about the Doctor and Belinda is every time they come up against someone who is bad, there’s an appeal to their humanity. They both kind of wait for the mask to slip and show a vulnerability, and they appeal to it. They’re constantly reflecting back to each other, and learning how to live kinder, I think. I think they both lose their temper at things, and they’re both able to pull the other back.
Doctor Who season two’s first episode starring Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu is currently streaming on Disney+.

GODZILLA DESTROYS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE Gives Us the King of the Monsters vs. Avengers and X-Men
Back in the ’70s, Godzilla had his own Marvel Comics series, running 24 issues. In the classic series, he fought everyone from the Fantastic Four to S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, after having fought DC’s Justice League, the King of the Monsters is about to take on Marvel’s heroes once more. Thanks to a new partnership between Marvel Comics and Toho International, this summer, Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe will arrive as a five-issue event series. It’s written by X-Men writer Gerry Duggan and artist Javier Garrón. You can see the wraparound cover by Mark Brooks, as well as read the official synopsis, below:
A previously dormant Godzilla has been angrily awoken and begun carving a path of annihilation as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes band together to try and stop its cataclysmic rampage! But when their combined efforts fail to slow the Bringer of Destruction, Earth’s heroes are forced to go to extraordinary lengths to try and bring Godzilla down – including joining forces with Earths most devious villains! But will this be enough to stop Godzilla as it tears straight through the Marvel Universe into the Dark Dimension and other realms? Plus, how is the King of the Monsters connected to the mysterious metal, Vibranium, and what does this mean for Wakanda? In the face of an unstoppable force of nature, the Marvel Universe must come together like never before in this earth-shattering fight for Earth’s survival.

The new Marvel Comics series will feature several geek-out moments that should make fans jump for joy. We’ll see a faceoff between Godzilla and an ancient Celestial, and a Venom symbiote bonding to the King of the Monsters. Of course, there’s also a brutal battle between the Incredible Hulk and Godzilla. We’re not sure what good Spider-Man is going to do against the big guy, but we’re excited to find out.
In a statement, writer Gerry Duggan said, “Godzilla was as important to me as Marvel Comics growing up. When I discovered that Godzilla had appeared in the Marvel Universe, I obsessively collected every issue. I can’t believe how lucky I am to be contributing to the tradition of Godzilla rampaging in the Marvel Universe. This is the very biggest event of the summer, and everyone is getting in on the action. Javier Garrón is doing the very best work of his career, and this will be an immortal comic book. Get ready to run for your life this July!”
Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #1 hits comic shops and digital platforms on July 16.

New ANDOR Season 2 Photos Amp Fans Up for Its Upcoming Premiere
The first season of Star Wars: Andor ended in 2022, and fans have been patiently waiting to learn the fate of its lead character, Cassian Andor. Well, not his ultimate fate–we saw Rogue One, we know how it ends for Diego Luna’s rebel hero. But we are still dying to know how he got from where we left him off at the end of season one of Andor to the determined rebel warrior of Rogue One.
Disney released a swath of new Andor season two images to take us into the action:

A new Andor season two poster has us feeling like Rogue One‘s Director Orson Krennic will have an even bigger role in the upcoming episodes than we thought. But will Mads Mikkelsen’s Galen Erso appear? Only time will tell. Take a look at the detailed new Andor season two poster below.

Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming second (and last) season of Andor.
Andor’s Season Two Plot
The end of Andor’s first season saw Cassian finally embrace becoming a true fighter for Luthen’s cause. All putting him one step closer to the character we first met in Rogue One. Showrunner Tony Gilroy has confirmed that they will split up the second season into four three-episode installments. Each of these three-episode chapters would cover a 12-month period. A year that is crucial to the development of the Rebel Alliance. Andor will also release its second season in these four three-episode installments, essentially giving fans a robust movie experience over the duration of four weeks.

ANDOR Season 2 Will Have an Unorthodox Release Schedule on Disney+In Andor season two we’ll see how Cassian met his trusty droid buddy K-2SO. We’ll also visit the Rebel Base on Yavin IV, a location familiar well-known to viewers of A New Hope and Rogue One. We also expect that early on in season two, Mon Mothma and Cassian Andor will finally meet face-to-face. Thanks to set photos, many fans believe Queen Amidala’s homeworld of Naboo will play a role in the second season as well. Ultimately, season two will cover five years, dovetailing right into Rogue One’s beginning.

The official synopsis for the series reveals:
Behind-the-Scenes“Andor,” the acclaimed thriller, returns for its long-awaited conclusion. The twelve episodes of Season Two will carry the story of Cassian Andor and the emerging rebel alliance over the climactic four years that lead to the discovery of The Death Star and the events of “Rogue One.” Season One followed Cassian’s reluctant journey from cynical nobody to revolutionary volunteer. “Andor” Season Two will see him transform from soldier to leader to hero on the way to his epic destiny. From the very first scene, Cassian’s story has activated an ever-widening ensemble of allies and enemies. Season Two will see these relationships intensify as the horizon of galactic war draws near. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound. Who will live to see their dream realized? Who will realize what that dream cost?

Andor season one creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy returns for season two, closing the chapter on Cassian’s story. Directing episodes in the second season are Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios. Kleiman is directing six of the 12 episodes overall. Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Beau Willimon, and Tom Bissell are the known writers for the second season episodes. Delays from the SAG-AFTRA strike and the WGA strike caused the series to delay shooting for months. But shooting commenced as soon as the last strike ended.
Andor’s Cast
Of course, Diego Luna once again portrays our titular hero Cassian Andor. Joining him once more are Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, and Genevieve O’Reilly as Senator Mon Mothma. Benjamin Bratt is said to join the series in an undisclosed role. Rogue One actor Forest Whitaker returns as Saw Gerrera, as does Alan Tudyk as the droid K-2SO. Ben Mendelsohn is rumored to return along with other as yet undisclosed Rogue One cast members.
Even though it appeared his days were numbered by the end of season one, Andy Serkis has hinted that he’s returning as former prisoner Kino Loy. Also returning is Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, Denise Gough as ISB agent Deedra Meero, and Adria Arjona as rebel Bix Caleen. Faye Marsay (Vel Sartha), Varada Sethu (Cinta Kaz), Elizabeth Dulau (Kleya Marki), and James McArdle (Timm Karlo) round out the cast for season two.
One character we did not expect to see again was Director Orson Krennic as played by Ben Mendelsohn. Previously, the actor said Disney had not contacted him about being in the series. However, The Playlist recently interviewed director Alonso Ruizpalacio, one of season two’s directors, who spilled the beans, unwittingly, it seems.

The Playlist details, “[Ruizpalacio] said directing episodes of the series was a treat, especially directing heavyweight actors like, ‘Stellan Skarsgård, Forest Whitaker, and Ben Mendelsohn,’ presumably not realizing he was revealing something of a spoiler (and sorry to blow up your spot).”
In addition to Mendelsohn’s return, we also learned that K-2SO will also be back in Andor‘s second season. Ben Mendelsohn’s Andor season two appearance as Krennic was confirmed at Disney’s D23 event.

David Tennant’s Former Agent Told Him to Reject His Now-Iconic DOCTOR WHO Role
Who is your favorite Doctor? While I find this question to be one of the least interesting ones you can ask a Doctor Who fan, it is one that exists. And, for a lot of fans who came to the sci-fi series during its modern era, that answer is the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant. Even if he isn’t your favorite, it is clear why people love him so much. Like us, he’s a big fan of Doctor Who and plays the role with just passion, heart, and pure joy. But, David Tennant recently revealed that his previous agent told him to turn down the starring role on Doctor Who.
Tennant played the Tenth Doctor from 2005-2010 and later returned for the 60th anniversary specials as the short-lived Fourteenth Doctor in 2023. He revealed why he almost didn’t take the role on his podcast David Tennant Does a Podcast With…, saying, “About 40 hours after they asked me, and I sort of had to process everything that it meant. And I had an agent at the time who was like, ‘Don’t touch it. It’s not going to work.’ Not my current agent. A previous brilliant agent who’s since retired, but she didn’t call that correctly, as it turns out. She said, ‘It’s not been on yet, it’s not going to work. You don’t want that hung around your neck.’”

Obviously that agent was very, very wrong. But it is kinda understandable why she had reservations. At that time, Doctor Who was just coming back to television and David Tennant took the role before the first season was even fully underway on television.

Despite a season two renewal from the BBC, it wasn’t certain that this revival would be a success. So perhaps she thought it really would tank his career.
But, as his wife Georgia Tennant noted on the podcast episode, there was no way that David could turn down a chance to be the Gallifreyan hero. When Russell T Davies invites you to his house to watch episodes of his Doctor Who revival and personally asks you to be the Doctor, you take the job. And we are all grateful that he did.

YELLOWJACKETS Finally Tells Us Who the Antler Queen Is
Ever since the first episode of Yellowjackets, there have been many questions that needed answers. What, exactly, happened in the Wilderness? How did the Yellowjackets make it home? Who lived to tell the tale? Who is the Pit Girl? And who is the Antler Queen? Some of these questions are still getting answers but the season three finale of Yellowjackets did finally reveal that Shauna is the Antler Queen.
In this episode, the group does a hunt to satisfy the Wilderness. Why? Who really knows. It doesn’t make sense. Anyway, Van games the cards so that Hannah the researcher will get the Queen of Hearts. But Shauna is on to them and shifts her place in the drawing circle so that Mari gets the card of death. And Mari indeed dies, running and falling into a pit.

Yes, Mari is the Pit Girl from the opening scene of the series. Afterwards, the girls string Mari up and prepare her for their feast. But Shauna instructs them to cut her hair and bring it to her. She pins it to her elaborate costume and puts on the antlers. We also hear a voiceover from adult Shauna about how she is now tapping back into her unhinged power. I guess her decades long hiatus as a housewife and mom is now over.

YELLOWJACKETS Cannibalism Tracker: Who Gets Eaten in Season 3?Anyway, Shauna being the Antler Queen sucks. She lacks the aura and mystique that one should have to occupy such a position. The Antler Queen gives off mysterious, regal vibes. Shauna is not that at all. She’s just a really, really unhinged and vile person who takes pleasure in abusing and killing people. It’s possible that Shauna will kill everyone else so she can be the last person standing. Maybe she will even go back to the Wilderness. She can take Lottie’s cult members with her, I suppose.
It remains to be seen how long Shauna will reign. Natalie made contact with someone using the emergency transmitter, so help is on the way. How in the world did they convince Shauna to give up her title and return to regular life? We will see what happens next season, assuming that the series will get a renewal soon.

YELLOWJACKETS Reveals the Identity of the Pit Girl
Yellowjackets season three’s finale is finally here and it sure was something. There was a lot going on in both timelines thanks to some wild twists. In the present, Tai is heartbroken over losing Van and rightfully angry with Shauna over her actions indirectly causing this tragedy. In the past, it is time for a new sacrifice to It, and one unfortunate girl loses her life. But this hunt in Yellowjackets is different because it finally reveals who the Pit Girl is from the show’s very first scene.
Mari Is the Pit Girl in YellowjacketsThat’s right. Pretty much every fan of the show believed that the Pit Girl was Mari, mostly due to her dark, long locks. But, there was a small chance it could be Gen or even Hannah, the researcher who now lives among them. In this episode, the girls decide that it is time to give IT another offering, so they do the ole drawing cards method. Whomever draws the Queen of Hearts is the unlucky one who must die. As we know, Van has been gaming the card system to keep herself and Tai alive. The duo shuffle the cards so that the chosen one will be Hannah.

This makes the most sense considering none of them really know her and they don’t want to kill another teammate. However, Shauna is onto their game and she disrupts the circle by standing in a different spot beside Mari, her #1 enemy. This leads to Mari picking the card and taking off in the woods. Mari gives it her best, even stripping down to the white gown beneath her clothing to blend in with the snow and leave her colorful suit behind as a decoy.
A lot happens, including Gen misleading Tai, Shauna, and Van to give Mari a chance. Shauna and Melissa even get into a fight and Natalie pulls a clothing switcheroo so she can run off with the now-repaired emergency transmitter to call for help.
Shauna Wears Mari’s Hair on Her Antler Queen OutfitAnd, right before the timer for the hunt is up, Mari runs forward and right into that spiked pit, basically killing herself. The girls come and look at her body and Shauna tells them to retrieve her from the pit. They string her up and cut pieces of her hair for Shauna to wear on her new outfit because she’s the Antler Queen. That’s right, Yellowjackets gave us the answer to two of its biggest questions in the finale.
If I can be real with you, I find both revelations to be very underwhelming. Mari was already in a pit earlier this season and just felt way too obvious of a choice for them to go that route. Also, the way the scene actually plays out versus how it is presented in this episode is quite different. And that’s not a good thing at all. Shauna lacks that ethereal energy one needs to be the Antler Queen. It should’ve been Lottie, someone who believed in It wholeheartedly and had a connection to some other…source.
Shauna is just a gross bully who uses the “rules of the Wilderness” to crush her enemies. And she doesn’t even do that in a charismatic or interesting way. Yellowjackets doesn’t have a season four renewal quite yet but that’s surely coming soon. Sadly, Mari will never get to go home.
