New STAR WARS Series in Development from LOST Producer Carlton Cuse

There were a metric ton of new announcements coming out of Star Wars Celebration in Japan. But there’s one more Star Wars TV series in the works. One they waited till after the convention to make public, just announced via the folks at Deadline. This new show in development is from the father/son producing team of Carlton Cuse (Lost, Locke & Key) and Nick Cuse (Station Eleven). We know nothing concrete about this series yet, not even where it takes place in the greater Star Wars timeline.

The Death Star II in orbit around Endor in Return of the Jedi. Lucasfilm

The younger Cuse also worked with his father’s Lost collaborator Damon Lindelof on HBO’s excellent Watchmen series back in 2019. But this will mark the first time they’ve every worked on a series together. Now, just because this series is in development by Lucasfilm doesn’t mean it will ever see the light of day. The list of Star Wars projects formally announced and then never made in the modern Disney era is long. There’s Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s Trilogy, the proposed Rian Johnson trilogy, among several others. Remember the Lando series, and the animated Droids show? What happened to those?

This is just our wild speculation, but is this possibly the rumored Knights of the Old Republic live-action series? Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy mentioned KOTOR was in some form of development quite some time ago, but then nothing ever came of it. Maybe Carlton and Nick Cuse have found a way to revive that project, which is maybe the most wanted Star Wars adaptation by fans. This would certainly be a costly series to produce, as it’s set in a time with thousands of Jedi and Sith alike. Hopefully, we’ll find out what this mystery Star Wars series from Cartlon and Nick Cuse is about before too long.

STAR WARS: VISIONS Gets Season 3, Plus New Spin-Off Series, THE NINTH JEDI

The first two seasons of Star Wars: Visions blew fans away with a unique version of the galaxy far, far away. Japanese anime directly inspired this new iteration, a version not tied to the overall continuity of the franchise. At Star Wars: Celebration in Japan, Lucasfilm announced a third season of the fan-favorite Visions, landing on Disney+ on October 29. The new season of Visions will include three different sequels to shorts from season one. Among them are “The Duel: Payback,” and “The Lost Ones,” a sequel to “The Village Bride.” Most surprisingly, they also announced a new spin-off, Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.

Characters from the Star Wars: Visions animated short The Ninth Jedi.Lucasfilm

The Ninth Jedi writer and director Kenji Kamiyama announced the new spin-off series on stage at Star Wars Celebration. He enthusiastically thanked the loyal fans for embracing the characters of Kara and Jedi Master Juro from “The Ninth Jedi,” despite just one appearance. He revealed that the upcoming sequel episode in Visions would continue their Jedi journey. To everyone’s surprise, he also announced that fans can watch Kara’s journey continue in a new spinoff called Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.

Star Wars: Visions first premiered on Disney+ back in 2021, as a series of nine animated shorts. The episode titled “The Ninth Jedi” focused on the daughter of a lightsaber-smith. It took place in a universe where lightsaber color is determined by the user’s emotion. In that animated short, Chinatsu Akasaki voiced Lah Kara and Tetsuo Kanao voiced the role of Margrave Juro. The second season of Star Wars: Visions arrived in 2023. The upcoming third seasons will include a short called Child of Hope. This continues the Ninth Jedi story following Kara and Juro. This will lead directly into The Ninth Jedi limited series which will premiere sometime the following year.

ANDOR Season 2 Is Allegorical Sci-Fi TV At Its Best

Star Wars: Andor, both its brilliant first season and its (nearly) equally great second season, contains almost nothing that I usually love about Star Wars as a franchise. There are no lightsabers, only one cute robot, barely any aliens, and the space battles are hardly what we call epic. The Force is barely a whisper. And yet, Andor is one of the best sci-fi TV programs in years, and the fact that it uses Star Wars iconography to tell it story is secondary to what makes it so excellent. Three episodes in the back half of the second season are among the best television so far this decade. No, we’re not being hyperbolic, they really are that good.

Cassian Andor steals a TIE fighter in the season 2 premire of Andor on Disney+.Lucasfilm

The first season of Andor was twelve episodes long, covering about a year of story. For season two, showrunner Tony Gilroy decided to break the twelve episodes into four story arcs spread across four years of time leading right up to the moment Rogue One begins. This approach mostly works, but it leaves some arcs much stronger overall than others. At times, it really does feel like four movies that are three hours long, whereas season one never feels like anything less than one big meal. Because of that, Andor season one remains slightly stronger overall, even if the highs of season two arguably surpass the highs of season one.

Bix (Adria Arjona) on a remote farming world in Andor season 2.Lucasfilm

The season opens relatively strong, with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) stealing a TIE fighter from an Imperial factory planet. This portion of the story is more compelling than what follows, with Cassian trapped on a jungle planet with some of the worst rebels ever. This is the weakest storyline of the season, and had me slightly worried that season two was going to be spinning its wheels, getting to the good stuff too late. Some plotlines with minor characters feel superfluous, especially as we have limited time to wrap this story up. Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker) for example is there because he needs to tie into Rogue One, but he takes up screen time from better storylines. The other familiar faces from Rogue One, K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) ease in much better.

ANDOR Season 2 Is Allegorical Sci-Fi TV At Its Best_1Lucasfilm

Still, the first arc would have benefited from being two episodes rather than three, as some of the story simply drags at this point. As with the first season, the bulk of the drama is split between our title character and Genevieve O’Reilly as Senator Mon Mothma. In this first arc, the storylines surrounding Mothma are definitely more compelling than Cassian’s as she realizes the moral compromises she has to make to defeat the Empire. Watching these episodes, it’s odd that the show was ever even called Andor. It has always been an ensemble. We suppose Star Wars: Rebels was already taken.

Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) in the ISB offices in Andor. Lucasfilm

What this series does best, and is highly unusual for Star Wars, is that it continues to give nuance and depth to its main villain characters, Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) and Syril Karn (Kyle Soller). But the biggest magic trick Andor pulls off is how much it makes us care about these two unapologetic fascists. And trust me, they are unapologetic. Some moments early on make me think that maybe Syril has turned a new leaf. But no, his awfulness is baked in. Yet, Gilroy and company still keep us invested in following his story and almost rooting for him despite everything. All of this applies to Dedra as well who is even worse than he is. Andor never forgets that the people who do the worst things are still human beings. Sometimes human beings who get super embarrassed by their mom in front of their girlfriend.

Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and Bix (Adria Arjona) on a mission for the Rebellion. Lucasfilm

There’s also some great character stuff for Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) this season. Season two doesn’t brush off what she went through in season one and deals realistically with her PTSD. However, one development with her character is surely going to be cause for great controversy. We imagine this episode will carry a trigger warning, but it’s just weird that a chapter in Star Wars carries this kind of content, in a world where Jar Jar Binks and Ewoks are just somewhere offscreen. This development makes sense within the story though. If you want down-in-the-dirt, realistic Star Wars, it will come with unpleasantness like this.

What truly elevates season two of Andor to greatness are episodes 8, 9, and 10. We won’t give away what happens in these chapters in this review. But they bring to the forefront the political messaging of Andor in a big way. Without getting too into the weeds here, these episodes feel more timely than ever. Everything in the series has been setting up these chapters of the story from the very start, particularly for Cassian, Mon Mothma, and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård). Luthen isn’t in Rogue One of course, so we assumed his story would come to a dramatic end. But it goes to darker places than I was expecting. Season two does more than just perfectly dovetail into the events of Rogue One, it makes Andor feel like a complete story within itself.

Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) goes undercover for the Rebellion in season two of Andor.Lucasfilm

That’s when the realization set in; Andor isn’t Star Wars as much as it is Star Trek. The original Star Trek aired in the tumultuous 1960s, using an allegorical sci-fi universe to tell stories about what was going on in the world. And it did so in a way the network would have never allowed in a straightforward way. Andor is doing the exact same thing. We highly doubt Disney+ would produce a show ripped from the headlines of our current climate if it were literal. But set it in a galaxy far, far away? Then it’s all just space fantasy, right? For this reason alone, Andor will stand the test of time. It’s more of a reflection of Earth in 2025 than most shows actually taking place on Earth in 2025.

In lesser hands than Tony Gilroy’s, Andor’s ambitious second season might have felt really “try hard.” Using George Lucas’ popcorn mythology to tell a story about political espionage and the burden of living under fascism? Who would have imagined “Star Wars as Prestige Drama” would work? And yet it does. As a huge Star Wars fan, I will admit, it’s sometimes frustrating. Simply because you want at least someGlup Shitto” moments, and Andor denies us almost any of them. (Even when the story calls for it.) But the truth is, we have the rest of the Star Wars franchise for that. Whatever small ways Andor doesn’t work as part of a larger mythology, it soars as a piece of television drama. And we should be grateful something so wonderful exists at all.

WEAPONS Teaser Is the Most Unsettled We’ve Felt in a While

Zach Cregger made a massive splash in the horror genre with his 2022 film Barbarian. That movie starts out like you’re watching one kind of movie and then it does a hard pivot into another, and then another. And while the actor-writer-producer-director has made comedies in the past, and been a part of The Whitest Kids U Know troupe, it’s his next horror outing that had us very excited. Now, after seeing a teaser for the film, Weapons, we’re incredibly unsettled. That’s what you want from a horror movie, of course. Check out the teaser below.

The teaser begins with a digital alarm clock reading 2:17am. We then see imagery of a typical suburban neighborhood at night. Street- and porchlights offer small swatches of light on the otherwise dark and still scenery. That is, until suddenly, in succession, children begin to run across yards and sidewalks, all with their arms outstretched like a lazy airplane. The voice we hear seems to be that of a police officer. No one forced the kids to leave, they all just left. The teaser ends the man saying “What do you see that I don’t?”

That is a startling and thoroughly disquieting 44 seconds. The final frames of the teaser tells to visit MaybrookMissing.com for more information. So I did! There isn’t too much there, except what is the premise of the movie.

A kid runs through the night with his arms outstretched in the upcoming horror thriller Weapons.Warner Bros.

17 Local Children Leave Home Simultaneously at 2:17AM

A chilling mystery has gripped the small town of Maybrook after 17 children voluntarily left their homes Wednesday morning. Authorities are baffled by the inexplicable disappearance, which has shaken the community to its core.

Upon investigation, front door camera footage showed the children leaving their homes at 2:17am Wednesday morning without any signs of force. Since then, little information has surfaced, and the case continues to baffle investigators.

In response, a school gathering was held, where growing unease among parents became clear. As the town struggles to understand what happened, officials continue to urge the public for any leads, while Maybrook is left waiting for answers.

We then have three exceedingly brief Ring camera clips of children running. Also, for fun, is a link to a news article about the events of Barbarian. Enjoyable in-universe stuff. The IMDb description calls Weapons “An interrelated, multistory horror epic,” which has us super intrigued as well. The cast is very stacked, with the likes of Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, and June Diane Raphael.

So all of that alone is enough to make me want to see Weapons. But what pushes it over the edge? The MPA description for why the movie has an R rating: strong bloody violence and grisly images, language throughout, some sexual content and drug use. Now that’s a horror movie!

Perhaps the best news? Originally, this had a release date of January 16, 2026 but it has since moved up to August 8, 2025. Much sooner, AND not in January. Must be it’s good.

READY OR NOT 2 Is Happening with Samara Weaving, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood & More

When it comes to Final Girls, one of the best is undoubtedly Samara Weaving’s Grace le Domas in Ready or Not. She goes from having the best day of her life to fighting for her life in the span of one night. Just imagine the horror of your newly minted in-laws trying to kill you in the name of a nasty family curse. The final scene of Ready or Not is a classic and fans have always wondered what happened to Grace after that harrowing experience. Now, we will get answers because Ready or Not 2 is in the works with Samara Weaving and Radio Silence returning.

The creative collective and Weaving recently worked together on Scream VI, where she portrayed the ill-fated professor who died in the opening scene. According to Deadline, Samara Weaving recently spoke about the possibility of a Ready or Not 2 film with Radio Silence. “I’m all in,” she said. “I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in…I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together.”

Additionally, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and David Cronenberg are coming onboard Ready or Not 2. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Lisa Frankenstein actress Kathryn Newton previously joined the cast.

What Is the Release Date for Ready or Not 2?

Of course, we don’t know any further details about Ready or Not 2 at this time. But we know that we cannot wait to see what happens next.

First Look at Pedro Pascal from THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU

Pedro Pascal is a busy guy. (Well, slightly less busy than he used to be SPOILERS.) We spent much of last week excited about the new trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Mr. Pascal assays the role of Mr. Fantastic, a heroic father out to save the world from Galactus. We got so excited we nearly forgot about his other other big genre franchise, The Mandalorian. Indeed, that series is heading to the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu. Lucky for us who couldn’t get to Japan for this year’s Star Wars Celebration, the good folks at ComicBook.com have posted a first look at Pedro as Din Djarin from that movie, helmet off like a real heretic.

He looks…well, pretty much like he always does. However, the beauty of this is that a) the Mando armor always looks awesome. And 2), Pedro Pascal is an exceedingly handsome man. We’re not sure how much of helmet-less Din we’ll get in the movie. Infamously, in season three of the Disney+ series, Pascal was mostly a voice role with stunt performers physically portraying the titular hero. However, with a big screen outing, and with the Mandalorian himself a big disillusioned with “The Way,” the guy can afford to take his darn helmet off.

Grogu and the Mandalorian flying through the airLucasfilm

The Mandalorian and Grogu comes from director/co-writer/co-producer Jon Favreau and co-writer/co-producer Dave Filoni. So far we don’t know a ton about it, beyond a couple of notable supporting actors. Sigourney Weaver will play an unnamed character, while Jeremy Allen White will voice, of all characters, Rotta the Hutt. We also have a release date: May 2026. That means Pedro Pascal will headline two enormous blockbusters within the same 12 month span. Jolly jeepers. Good work, guy who got his head crushed on Game of Thrones one time. You deserve it.

First Look at GAME OF THRONES’ Rory McCann as AHSOKA’s Baylan Skoll

The Hound is coming to the galaxy far, far away. Jeff Sneider of The Insneider first broke the news (since confirmed elsewhere) that Lucasfilm has tapped Game of Thrones‘ alum Rory McCann to replace the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll on Ahsoka.

You can check out first look images of Rory McCann entering the Star Wars universe as Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka below.

Rory McCann will officially play Baylan Skoll in AHSOKA Season 2

“His whole focus is to not let Ray down and to not let you down…The Force is with him,” Dave Filoni says. pic.twitter.com/JTdvmhaDCy

— Star Wars Holocron (@sw_holocron) April 19, 2025

The great Ray Stevenson passed away unexpectedly after a very brief illness in May of 2023. That was just three months before Ahsoka debuted on Disney+. The beloved veteran actor had starred in countless films and television shows before joining Star Wars. Some of his notable projects included Rome, The Other Guys, Vikings, Punisher: War Zone, and the Thor films. But he more than made his mark in the galaxy far, far awar as former Jedi Baylan Skoll on Ahsoka.

Rory-McCann in armor as The Hound on Game of ThronesHBO

The first season ended with Skoll on the verge of completing a meaningful personal journey. His trip across the universe had huge implications for the Force itself. With Stevenson’s death it was unclear how showrunner Dave Filono would conclude Skolls’ story. Now, rather than write the character out of its story, Lucasfilm has opted to recast the part. And they’ve found someone with the presence both in spirit and in stature, to match Stevenson’s.

First Look at GAME OF THRONES’ Rory McCann as AHSOKA’s Baylan Skoll_1Lucasfilm

Rory McCann, best known for playing Sandor Clegane on Game of Thrones, will take over as Baylan Skoll when the show eventually returns for its second season. McCann’s past works include Hot Fuzz, Clash of the Titans, Jumanji: The Next Level, and as the voice of Megatron in Transformers: EarthSpark. In 2024 he also appeared in Gladiator II and Knuckles.

While he’s certainly a fantastic choice for the sad, stoic, determined Skoll, McCann has some big shoes to fill. Stevenson delivered one of the best, most complex Star Wars characters in years with a beautiful and moving performance. If McCann can capture even some of what we loved about Baylan Skoll during Ahsoka‘s first season, he will truly be honoring Ray Stevenson.

SUPERMAN Behind-the-Scenes Video Discuss the Character’s Hope

It’s barely a month into spring and I’m already longing for summer. While spring movies like Thunderbolts* and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning are exciting, my cinematic sights are firming planted on July 11. That’s the day when James Gunn’s Superman will debut and with it the hope of a brand new era of enjoyable DC movies. Hope is indeed the right word for anything to do with the Man of Tomorrow himself. After all, he’s a beacon of the good possible in the world. And also, you know, wearing your trunks on the outside of your pants.

In the below behind-the-scenes video from Superman, Gunn, Peter Safran, and the rest of the main cast all discuss filming the movie, the responsibility they feel, and indeed the hope the character brings.

This little featurette manages to get us more excited for the movie, and proffer some words on Superman as a symbol of aspiration. Additionally, it gives us some great looks at some characters we hadn’t seen much of. Frank Grillo plays Rick Flag Sr, as he did indeed in Creature Commandos. Not surprisingly, he looks not dissimilar to his Brock Rumlow mercenary look from the MCU. But way more exciting are brief glances at Isabela Merced in her full Hawkgirl regalia and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho.

While the featurette doesn’t show much more of new footage that wasn’t in the first teaser and extended scene, watching the making of a film of this size is kinda thrilling. Harkens back to my youth watching the making of Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Those DVD features were better than the movie, and that’s not a dig at the movie.

Behind-the-scenes shot of David Corenswet in costume filming Superman.WB/DC Studios

I still don’t love the Superman suit in this, but that’s legitimately the only misgiving I have based on everything else I’ve seen. As Rachel Brosnahan says, in James Gunn we trust. Come on, Summer!

Superman will hit theaters and IMAX screens July 11, 2025.

Hayden Christensen (and Anakin) Will Return in AHSOKA Season 2

Ahsoka season two is coming our way. It’s officially beginning production next week. Ahsoka‘s first season brought us some incredible episodes and it let us spend more time with some of the Star Wars characters we love best. And that, it turned out, included Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker, who returned in Ahsoka to give his former Padawan one final lesson in the World Between Worlds. But that lesson isn’t so final after all because Lucasfilm confirmed that Hayden Christensen and Anakin Skywalker will also be returning to the Star Wars universe once more in Ahsoka season two.

We don’t yet know where Ahsoka season two will take us. Very little is known about the season. What we do know about Ahsoka season two is that Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau will be back at the helm, and Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin will be back on our screens. Additionally, Rory McCann has been cast as the character of Baylan Skoll, originated by the late Ray Stevenson.

Ahsoka season one left us with many interesting questions, including about Grand Admiral Thrawn’s plans for the Great Mothers, where Ezra Bridger and Hera Syndulla’s reunion will take them, and how Sabine and Ahsoka will get off Peridea.

Of course, we’re still wondering about Baylan Skoll and the mysterious connection to Mortis that he’s exploring, and Shin Hati’s journey to find her path. Will it be in flashback form, or something more convoluted than that?

DARTH MAUL Show Will Be Next Disney+ STAR WARS Series

The time has finally come for Darth Maul to take center stage in a show of his very own. At Star Wars Celebration 2025, Lucasfilm announced its next Disney+ series would be an animated offering all about Darth Maul and his nefarious underworld adventures. The series will be called Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord and will star long-time Darth Maul voice actor Sam Witwer.

What Will Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, the Darth Maul Series, Be About? Star Wars Maul Shadow Lord, a Darth Maul animated series logoLucasfilm

Darth Maul is a dark-side figure who has truly won fans’ hearts. Darth Maul appeared in the live-action Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Solo: A Star Wars Story. But Darth Maul truly made his mark in the successful Star Wars animated series from George Lucas and Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. And so it makes sense that Darth Maul is heading back to animation in his next chapter.

Lucasfilm shares, “In a new series set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead the underworld factions.” Additionally, the official Star Wars site notes of the Darth Maul series, “After the Clone Wars, Maul plots to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.” Sounds like a fun adventure.

Witwer additionally shared at the panel, that the series takes place “about a year” after the Clone Wars, and that Darth Maul is “dusting himself off a bit” after Ahsoka “kicked him to the curb.”

Witwer adds, “We learn some different things about this character. He’s got some different traits that you wouldn’t necessarily think he has that make perfect sense from what he’s been through.”

Who Will Star in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord? And Who Will Write and Direct It?

So far, we know that Sam Witwer will return to star in the Star Wars Disney+ Darth Maul series. Witwer voiced Darth Maul previously. He “first portrayed Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, later reprising the role in Star Wars Rebels.” He also voiced Maul in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
