Sydney Sweeney Becomes a Boxing Icon in CHRISTY Trailer

Sydney Sweeney is the latest glamorous movie star to portray a sports legend, in the upcoming boxing biopic Christy. In this film by director David Michôd, we get a dramatization of the life of International Boxing Hall of Fame icon Christy Martin. Arguably the most famous female boxer in the world, Christy Martin grew up in West Virginia in the ’70s and ’80s. She went on to worldwide fame, becoming the first woman elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020. We now have a trailer for Christy, which hits theaters later this year, just in time for awards season:

And here’s the official synopsis for Christy from Black Bear Films:

Christy Martin (Sydney Sweeney) never imagined life beyond her small-town roots in West Virginia—until she discovered a knack for punching people. Fueled by grit, raw determination, and an unshakable desire to win, she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned-husband, Jim (Ben Foster). But while Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it—confronting family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life-or-death. Based on remarkable true events, Christy Martin’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the fight to reclaim one’s life.

Who knows, should the movie receive critical praise, Sydney Sweeney might be looking at an Oscar nomination for this one. The Euphoria and Immaculate actress told Variety that she put on an extra 30 pounds to play the role. And there’s nothing the Academy loves more than physical transformations when handing out awards. Just ask Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, and Christian Bale. Each of them had extreme transformations for their roles and were lauded for it. It’s a surefire way to earn Academy votes.

Joining Sydney Sweeney in the cast are Katy O’Brian, Merritt Wever, Ben Foster, Ethan Embry, Chad L. Coleman, Valyn Hall, and Tony Cavalero. The most recent years of the real Christy Martin’s life have been tumultuous, to say the least. She survived a murder attempt from her ex-husband and former coach in 2010. Not long after, she married her high school sweetheart, her former basketball teammate Sherry Lusk. We’re not sure if the events portrayed in Christy will cover that period in time or not. It may just focus on her early boxing career. We’ll have to wait and see. Christy recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is set to arrive in theaters on November 7.

POKÉMON Getting First Life Simulation Game with POKÉMON POKOPIA

Pokémon is an escape from the real world for many. But in 2026 Nintendo is going to let gamers recreate real life with Pokémon. During the company’s latest Nintendo Direct presentation it announced Pokémon Pokopia, the franchise’s first ever life simulation game. And based on its description the Nintendo Switch 2 release will combine the serenity and community building of Stardew Valley with the kind of digital construction found in Minecraft.

The newly announced Pokémon Pokopia is “devoted to crafting, creating, and building.” Like Stardew Valley it’s going to let players hang out in their own little digital realm of relaxation. But before they can focus on growing carrots they’ll have to actually build their own virtual abode of peace and tranquility. The game will transform Ditto to look like a human. You’ll then “collect wood, rocks, and other crafting materials to create a cozy home.”

You won’t just be able to get to work on everything right away, though. Ditto will also need to learn from other Pokémon so you can put those skills into making your “very own Pokémon paradise.” That could mean usinge Bulbasaur’s Leafage “to add greenery to the landscape” or Squirtle’s Water Gun to water plants. And the more skills you acquire and the better you make your little slice of digital heaven the more Pokémon will visit you.

A title card with game art for Pokémon PokopiaNintendo

Pre-orders for the game will begin this fall on Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store. You can place yours on November 12, 2025. Pokémon Pokopia will then arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.

Don’t stress about the wait or what you should work on first when the game launches. Pokémon Pokopia might come with new responsibilities, but the whole point of building your own safe haven of quiet joy is to not stress about real life. This might be a life simulation game, but it’s supposed to simulate the nicest parts of life.

LEGO Salt and Pepper Shakers Exist, So There’s That

I remember back in the early ’90s, it was up to us kids to decide what stuff was made of LEGO. We built things from our own imaginations. Were they good? Almost never. Were they fun? Of course. One time I tried to make a bowl out of LEGO and then actually fill it will cereal and milk. Let’s just say it was not water tight. Made a mess. I was a child. But so ubiquitous is LEGO, and so iconic the visual design, that rather than building everyday objects, you can just already-made ones. Case in point today: LEGO salt and pepper shakers.LEGO Salt and Pepper Shakers Exist, So There's That_1LEGO

The cubic shakers resemble single-peg LEGO studs, 600 times larger, of course. One is black, the other white. As those of us who have been on Earth for at least ten seconds know, most people put salt in the white one and pepper in the black one. I guess you could do the opposite, just to mess with people. According to the product listing on LEGO, these have no age restrictions. So your very boring four year-olds can enjoy these.

Aaaaaaaand that’s kind of it. These are just things that exist. You can get them for $6.99. Pretend you live in Bricksburg or whatever. Everything is awesome.

BIOSHOCK Netflix Movie Still ‘Definitely’ Based on First Game

For a game all about feeling like you have a choice but actually not having one, Netflix sure is having issues finishing the script of the BioShock movie. Like…just follow the plot of the game, right? But alas. The film adaptation of the groundbreaking 2007 dystopian sci-fi game has been in development and pre-production for years. Director Francis Lawrence came on board in 2022 and various screenwriters and hiccups have kept it from happening. We also recently learned the production budget for the movie has been reduced. But rest assured, the movie is still “definitely” based on the first game.Photo from BioShock game showing Big Daddy2K Games/Take Two Interactive

Speaking to The Direct (which we saw via IGN), producer Roy Lee said, “Netflix wants us to keep everything under wraps. But it’s definitely going to be based on the first BioShock game.” Lee went on to explain that, due to the initial delays, he and Lawrence made other movies in the interim, so when they finish, BioShock is back on the top of the pile.

“BioShock was delayed for a little bit where we had to do some more script work,” Lee said. “And so as the script work is being done, we shot The Long Walk, and he was already committed to doing the next Hunger Games movie. And so it’s just waiting for him whenever the Hunger Games is completed,” Lee added, “and the script is just being worked on right now.”

A still of a Little Sister and a Big Daddy from BioShock.2k Games/Take Two Interactive

BioShock, from Ken Levine, is a sci-fi mystery about an unnamed protagonist in 1960 whose plane crashes over the ocean only to find an elevator to an opulent, art deco city underwater. But as gorgeous as it looks, it’s anything but idyllic. The brainchild of Randian business mogul Andrew Ryan, the city Rapture allowed rampant capitalism, exceptionalism, individualism, and Objectivism. Scientists developed genetic upgrades which naturally turned most of the populace into insane nightmare monsters. The player character has to piece together the mystery of their own past, what happened in the city, and avoid the terrifying Big Daddies who can pretty much kill you on sight.

BioShock was a massive sea change for narrative games in 2007 and spawned both a direct sequel, 2010’s BioShock 2, and a thematic continuation, 2013’s BioShock Infinite.

Every Cast Member Leaving SNL Before Season 51

Last year Saturday Night Live celebrated its 50th anniversary. This summer, it’s celebrating an unfortunate tradition: firing a bunch of people. Noted Paul Simon friend Lorne Michaels is making big changes to his variety show ahead of its season 51 debut on October 4. It’s not a surprise he’s cutting down his performers, though. Despite the big milestone, last year’s cast featured 14 main members and three featured players. Michaels has also done this plenty of times before so it’s no surprise. But some of the people departing the show might surprise fans. So who’s leaving? Here’s a list of everyone out at SNL …so far.Heidi Gardner, Emil Wakim, Devon Walker, and Michael Longfellow in a split iage showing each of them on SNLNBC

Heidi Gardner

The biggest name leaving the show so far is veteran Heidi Gardner. She joined the show in 2017 for season 43 and got promoted to main cast for season 45. The versatile and talented Gardner has yet to make any statement about her departure, but she was long one of SNL‘s standouts. After eight years, it seemed likely she left on her own, but that might not actually be the case. Gardner’s exit was set to make Ego Nwodim the longest tenured woman in the cast, but….

Ego Nwodim

Not long after Michaels finalized his season 51 cast Ego Nwodim decided the time had come for her to depart. She told Deadline, “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL. I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, to my castmates, the writers, and the crew for their brilliance, support, and friendship.” Unlike Gardner’s departure, which might be anything but amicable, Nwodim is leaving on the best of terms. She added, “Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories, and that laughter, with me always.”

Devon Walker

Devon Walker was the first cast member let go ahead of season 51. His departure was definitely not expected after three seasons. Lorne Michaels elevated Walker to the main cast ahead of the show’s 50th. But Walker had since said told Rolling Stone the decision mutual one between him and the show. “We decided together that it was time to go our separate ways,” he said.

He also wrote in an Instagram post announcing his exit that “sometimes it was really cool” working on the show, but that “sometimes it was toxic as hell,” too.

Michael Longfellow

Walker isn’t the only cast member leaving after three seasons. Michael Longfellow is also exiting the show despite earning a promotion to the main cast ahead of season 50. Only unlike Walker, his departure was not a mutual one. On Instagram he wrote, “Will not be returning for a 4th season at SNL. Wish I was but, so it goes.” Despite his disappointment, Longfellow expressed gratitude for his time on the iconic show.

Emil Wakim

Another shocking departure is Emil Wakim’s after just one season. The funny standup made a mark during his first and now only year with appearances on Weekend Update. However, he didn’t feel out of place in sketches, either.

Wakim definitely did not see this firing coming. He called it a “gut punch” on Instagram. But in a testament to his comedic chops, he turned a massive disappointment into something funny, which you can see on his IG page.

We’ll update this list if Saturday Night Live has anymore last second exits.

The Biggest Revelations From WEDNESDAY Season 2

Wednesday season two part two is over and we still cannot get over the wild ride we went on at Nevermore. This season expanded this world in so many ways, from new information about beloved characters to truly shocking things that change everything for our little storm cloud. Here are some of the biggest revelations in Wednesday season two.

RELATED ARTICLE

Fred Armisen Confirms WEDNESDAY’s Uncle Fester Spinoff Series Is Moving ForwardPrincipal Dort Founded Morning Song Cult Steve Buscemi as Headmaster Barry Dort in Wednesday season 2.Netflix

We knew that Principal Dort wasn’t a good guy. He did end up using Bianca’s siren abilities to con Morticia into helping with the school’s gala, after all. But things get even darker with the revelation that Principal Dort is the founder of the Morning Song cult in Wednesday.

Bianca and her mom don’t recognize him because he was purposely behind the scenes and allowed a former actor to be its figurehead. Thankfully, Wednesday and friends work together to thwart his evil plans and keep him from conning Grandmama out of her money.

Slurp Is Isaac Night, Gomez’s Former Best Friend and Tyler’s Uncle pugsley shoots lighting out of his fingertips in wednesday season twoNetflix

It turns out that the story about the mad genius boy from the clock tower is actually true. In part one, Pugsley revives a corpse and it becomes his bestie because, well, the poor kid doesn’t have any pals. He names his flesh-hungry pal Slurp, but things get out of hand when the zombie starts killing people. As he continues to consume brains, Slurp becomes more humanlike and we learn that he’s Isaac Night, the brother of Tyler’s mom and a mad genius.

In an effort to get rid of her Hyde nature, he tries to intentionally kill his roommate and friend Gomez, who loses his electric ability in the process. Thankfully, Morticia saved them and Isaac died instead (more on that later).

Patient #1938 Is Tyler’s Mom image of tyler mom francoise in wednesday big revelation momenrHelen Sloan/Netflix

The mysterious patient that escaped is none other than Francoise, the mother of Tyler who was an early LOIS patient. As previously mentioned, she wanted to be rid of her Hyde ability and live a normal life. But the experiment turned dark and led to Isaac’s death. Sadly, while Tyler grew up, she spent her time locked away as a test subject. Part 2 does give her a chance to reunite with her family and attempt to “save” Tyler, but it ends with a big old Hyde fight with her son. She falls to her death and Tyler gets away again, only to strangely find solace with Capri.

Enid Is an Alpha WerewolfBillie Piper as Isadora Capri stands in front of Wednesday in season twoHelen Sloan/Netflix

Speaking of Capri, she’s quite the mysterious lady herself. We knew that she was a child prodigy and, like Enid, a werewolf. But part 2 reveals that she was once in love with a Hyde whose master tried to have him kill her, among other things. She tells Enid that she’s an Alpha werewolf because her first change happened under a blood moon.

And, if she wolfs out during another moon, she could possibly end up being stuck in her wolf form. Enid is forced to do this to save Wednesday’s life and she doesn’t revert back to her human form the next day. She makes her way North and Wednesday goes to find her, which is how the season ends.

Capri Has a Hyde CommunityThe Biggest Revelations From WEDNESDAY Season 2_1Netflix

Capri reveals to Tyler that her father was a Hyde and that there’s a community of master-free Hyde that he can join. It seems Capri is the one who organized it but it is not clear if she has a darker motive behind creating this space. We will have to see what she’s up to in season three

Thing Is Actually Issac Night’s Hand… and Morticia Cut Him OffWednesday season 2 trailer thingNetflix

Until now, we have never had a version of the Addams family that gives us a full backstory about Thing. We learn in the Wednesday finale that Thing was Isaac Night’s hand, which Morticia chopped off to save Gomez’s life while they were all Nevermore Academy students. The hand became its own sentient being and, in the end, Thing takes down Isaac and chooses to continue being Wednesday’s delightful sidekick.

Grandmama Has Ophelia Locked in a Basement Wednesday season 2 trailer grandmotherNetflix

Just when you thought Wednesday’s family did have more secrets, the finale gave us the biggest one of all for a big revelation. Morticia’s sister Ophelia, who apparently went mad from her psychic powers decades ago, is actually locked in Grandmama Addams basement. She writes an ominous message saying that Wednesday needs to die. Does Morticia know the truth about Ophelia? Why is Grandmama locking her away? It’s all a nice setup for the next season.

Watch a Worn 1977 STAR WARS Poster Get Restored

The original posters for George Lucas’ original Star Wars (now A New Hope) are the definition of iconic. Lucasfilm produced several posters for Star Wars for different markets, and for merchandising purposes. But artist Tom Jung’s classic “Style A” poster, which features a sexier Luke and Leia beneath a looming Darth Vader, is perhaps the most beloved. But these original one-sheets in good condition are hard to find these days. Now, YouTube channel Fourth Cone Restoration has found a 48-year-old Star Wars poster that was yellow and discolored, restoring it to a more pristine condition. You can watch the 5-minute restoration video below:

The Tom Jung 1977 Star Wars poster was the inspiration for the Hildebrandt Brothers’ “Style B” poster. That one utilized the same basic design, but with a brighter color scheme. This was because Fox wanted a “less dark,” more kid-friendly version of the same concept. That version of the poster had R2-D2 and C-3PO in the corner of the image, which Jung’s did not. Once Twentieth Century Fox saw the droids in that version of the poster, they added them into Jung’s original art. But Tom Jung didn’t add them in himself. Instead, original Teen Titans artist Nick Cardy drew these versions of the droids.

A restored 1977 Tom Jung Star Wars poster.Fourth Cone Restoration/YouTube

Obviously, this restoration had its limits. The creases in the posters where the folds exist remain, even if they are less distracting to look at. But the yellowing effect is largely dialed back. And we’re sure the poster looks very close to how it looked in front of movie theaters back in 1977. The Fourth Cone Restoration YouTube channel has a lot of other movie poster restoration videos on its channel, including for other posters in the original Star Wars trilogy. And every single one is a poster we’d proudly display on our walls, the way Jabba displayed Han Solo frozen in Carbonite.

PEACEMAKER Reveals the Quantum Unfolding Chamber’s Origin

PEACEMAKER Reveals the Quantum Unfolding Chamber’s Origin_1

The fourth episode of Peacemaker season two finally clarifies one of the lingering mysteries from season one. And it also corrects one of its thematic errors. In the pre-credits prologue to the newest episode, we flashback to 35 years earlier. We follow Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, sporting a black mullet wig, and his two young sons, Christopher and Keith, on a hunting trip in the woods near his home. Auggie shoots what he clearly thinks is an animal. Quickly, he discovers it’s some kind of tiny alien, and one now clearly gravely injured.

Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith with his kids in a flashback from Peacemaker season two,HBO Max/DC Studios

Despite a traumatized young Chris asking him not to shoot it again, Auggie backhands him and tells him not to tell him what to do. He then blows the poor, injured alien’s head clean off. It’s then that we discover the door of the Quantum Unfolding Chamber waiting in the woods. He also left behind the mysterious metal object later used to make the Peacemaker equipment. It’s obviously how the alien arrived on Earth. And this is how dimwitted and racist Auggie Smith discovered this highly advanced technology. A tech that every government agency in the world would love to get its hands on decades later.

Auggie Smith and Christopher Smith in the Quantum Unfolding Chamber Chamber in Peacemaker season one.HBO Max/DC Studios

In season one, Gunn never explained how the White Dragon, a low-rent criminal white supremacist who lives in an unassuming house, was smart enough to create a fantastically advanced doorway to other dimensions in his bedroom closet. James Gunn played the whole thing off as a joke, so it didn’t bother us that much. He clearly did not want us to think about it too hard. The high-tech chamber was simply for plot reasons. But as the show continued, it would have been a hard thing to hand-wave away.

We still have a few questions, however. For starters, how did the other Auggie Smith from the alt-universe find his version of the Quantum Unfolding Chamber? While he seems (on the surface) to be a nicer, gentler version of the character, he doesn’t seem nearly smart enough to have built one on his own. Was there a similar fateful hunting trip in his universe? Or was the Quantum Unfolding Chamber discovered in some other way? Did that dead alien build it, or was he just using it like so many others? We hope we find out.

The Quantum Unfolding Chamber in Peacemaker.HBO Max/DC Studios

Here’s why we’re really glad James Gunn explained this plot device in this episode. Season one of Peacemaker established Auggie Smith as a hateful, uneducated bigot. To suggest that he was somehow also secretly a brilliant scientist who could build a portal to other dimensions and keep it in his house was actually a terrible message. No, people like that don’t actually have some kind of higher understanding of anything. Chris Smith himself scoffs when Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) suggests that his dad built it. He reminds her that his father had a sixth-grade education at best. People like Auggie Smith aren’t functioning on some higher level, they are hateful bigots who barely have an understanding of reading and writing, much less quantum physics. They’re not secretly brilliant. And we’re glad Peacemaker made it a point to say so.

Peacemaker season two drops new episodes every Thursday on HBO Max.
