Don’t Be Afraid…
Greetings, friends! Beginning this Sunday, October 4th, our church will join together in a 40-day period of prayer and fasting in order to seek God’s favor, healing, provision, and direction. We have had a great response to the online signups to participate, but there are still many of you that have not done so yet. I know that the thought of fasting may strike a chord of fear in many, but I want to put your minds at ease…this should not be scary! Your commitment to participate does not mean that you must not take another bite of food for the next 40 days (although some may choose to do just that!). You get to choose what your fast looks like for you by prayerfully considering this commitment. Some may fast from social media or TV, some from sweets, some from alcohol, some from food…some may choose to fast one day per week, some may decide to fast daily…fasting can take many different forms. Once you have discerned what is right for you, click on the link below to sign up for a daily email with a prayer devotional to get you started each day of the fast. The signup only takes seconds (just name, email address and your community are required…we don’t ask what you plan to do for your fast…that is between you and God!) This is going to be an amazing time in the life of our church and I know that God will honor it. Please commit to fast with us here.
Also during this time of prayer and fasting, ACF will be holding weekly prayer meetings in each community from Oct 3 to Nov 22. These promise to be sweet times of prayer with your friends and neighbors. I hope that you can make arrangements to attend in your community (or in other communities, if you can!). Below are the times and addresses for each community:
Round Rock will be Mondays from 6-7 AM
(beginning October 5th) at…
306 West Main St. Round Rock TX 78664
Lake Travis will be Tuesdays from 7pm to 8:30 pm
(beginning October 6th) at…
River in the Hills prayer room, 1310 RR 620 South, Suite C-10 Lakeway, TX 78734
Northwest will be at Wednesdays from 12-1 pm
(beginning October 7th) at…
Westover Hills Church of Christ on 8332 Mesa Dr,
Austin, TX 78759
Brushy Creek will be Thursdays from 7-8 pm
(beginning October 8th) at…
Twin Lakes Ministry Center on 1150 S. Bell Blvd
Cedar Park, TX 78613
Four Points will be Saturdays from 7-8 pm
(beginning October 10th) at…
EC ACF Four Points, 6401 River Place Blvd, Austin, TX 78730
And last, but certainly not least, during the next 40 days we will explore the following questions for you to pray over and consider:
What does God want to do in me (and my extended family)?
What does God want to do in my neighborhood?
What does God want to do in my ACF community?
What does God want to do in Austin?
If you would like more information on fasting, here is a helpful link from our friends at CRU:

I look forward to joining you all in this awesome time of prayer and fasting at ACF and seeing what God does in our midst. If you have any questions, need further information or would like more resources on the subject, please contact my assistant, Joni Kendrick, at joni@acfellowship.org.
Blessings to you all!

Let’s Pray!!!!!!

Prayer that Means Business
Have you ever walked away from a prayer session wondering what, if anything, you actually accomplished? I certainly have. I was thinking about that recently after spending the better part of a morning in prayer with a group of other believers. It was a sweet time. We shared much love with both the Lord and each other. We offered praises, confessions, and thanksgivings. We prayed for the sick, the brokenhearted, and the lost. We prayed for provision and direction.
But as I walked away from that meeting, I couldn’t shake the gnawing feeling that we hadn’t accomplished all that we could have.
Have you ever listened to how we pray? It’s like Christians have developed their own prayer language, and I don’t mean the ecstatic kind.
Lord, please bless Bill. What exactly do we mean by that? Do we want God to make Bill more holy or more disciplined? Are we hoping that his business will prosper or that he’ll be a better husband? And why do we ask for blessing when Ephesians 1: 3 says that we are already blessed with every spiritual blessing that God can give?
God, please be with Joan. God’s already with Joan. His Spirit lives in her, and he promised to never leave or forsake her. What do we really want God to do for Joan?
Father, we pray that you give Jack a special anointing. As if there is such a thing as an ordinary anointing. Special anointing is redundant.
And, God, we ask that you give Sue an extra helping of your grace. What is that? Does God dole out grace in measured proportions? That prayer makes God seem as if he has a big serving spoon— that he can be either generous or stingy with the helpings of grace he dispenses.
God wants us to be strategic and focused about what we’re asking him to do. We need to pray for things— very specific things, gritty things, personal things, important things, kingdom things— with the pinpoint precision that Jesus modeled in the Lord’s Prayer.
What do you really need? What walls need tearing down, and what strongholds need obliterating? What captives need freeing, and what lost people need saving? What Christian-led businesses in your city do you want to prosper, and what strip joints and adult bookstores do you want to see shut down? What terminally ill person do you want to see healed? What poor or unethical leaders need to either change their ways or be removed from leadership, and what godly leaders need to be given more of a platform?
What do you really want and need God to do? Whatever it is, if you’re serious about receiving it from God, then you need to pray with the same focus that Jesus did.
