Thought Leaders & Writers of Originality

The term “Thought Leader” sounds quite like a business buzzword to me…

“Writer of Originality” might sound a bit haughty; but, I think it’s preferable to “Writer Who Copies from Others”…

So…

There’s an article I’m going to feature today, written by David Sessions: “…a doctoral student in modern European history at Boston College and a visiting student at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. He is a for...

Breaking Writing Dreams Down

Today’s re-blog mentions New Year’s Resolutions; but, guess what?

If you make the decision, “a year” can begin right now :-)

Live to Write - Write to Live

When my husband and I first moved into our house we had so many dreams. First we were going to change this, add that and then we were going to find out about creating something else. At the time we had a 15 month old and I was pregnant with what would be the second of our six children. Our dream list got longer and longer and we soon reali...

Revision: Here’s the Chance to Get It Right

Today’s re-blog is short but definitely Sweet — it even ends with this Lovely idea:

“Too many areas of life don’t afford you a second chance, but writing does…”

BREVITY's Nonfiction Blog

9780399578809Brevity editor Dinty W. Moore is featured this week on Signature-Reads.com, insisting that revision is the most joyful part of writing. Peace, The Real Peace

Extremely insightful and ponderable re-blog today…

A Teacher's Reflections

I talk about peace often in my classroom.  Well, that’s partially true.  When children talk about peace, I jump right in. They have a lot to say. We adults should listen more.

Years ago, when I first had the the good sense to listen to children, it struck me to paint a peace dove in our parking lot, right in front of the entrance to school.  Janine, an artist and parent of Juliet (Starry Night post) and Audrey, was ha...

Why Don’t You Just Get A Life?

by
Alexander M Zoltai

Prologue:

I’m really nobody; but, there’ve been times I thought I was Way important…

Those days are over…

~~~~~~~~~
This getting a life thing got started by being born to religious parents…
I suppose the fact that Mom was sincerely living her Faith and Dad was horribly conflicted about it all was what got me going on the whole Maverick life-style—what else to do when you have two nearly completely opposing models of what being a h...
The Power of Listening to What Your Practice Demands
Today’s re-blog may start by talking about Literary Magazines; but, it soon takes off and flies in the realm of practical commitment…
BREVITY's Nonfiction Blog
“What do you want to achieve by sending your work out?” Allison K Williams asks this of us in her book, Get Published in Literary Magazines, offering three possibilities for consideration: publication (the reward of seeing your name in print), payment (the reward of money in your pocket), and prestige (the reward of being...
E-books, Libraries, and the False Notion of Digital Scarcity…
My recent experience with libraries depends on two things, both not optimum for gaining comprehensive knowledge:
— I haven’t used a library seriously for many years…
— I have a friend who’s a librarian in a prison, which is a totally different world…
Also, there is much floating around that is positively confusing about e-books…
Luckily, I found the site No Shelf Requ...
Reading Connects All People
Today’s re-blog lets you visit a dedicated teacher’s blog for an intro to a wonderful picture series on a blog that she directs us to…
A Teacher's Reflections
Reading should belong to everyone, but often we only think of how books relate to us. Steve McCurry is working to bridge that gap and show how much reading can connect disparate people. McCurry, one of the leaders in modern photography, has published a series of images called “On Reading”. He compiled the series from his […]
Wiping Out Illiteracy
Last year I wrote about a major reading initiative in the post, Promoting Literacy by Putting It in World-Crisis-Solving Perspective[image error]
I recommend all readers, writers, and publishers absorb that post for one important reason:
“Illiteracy affects over 757 million people worldwide and has an impact on global development. Although it is a largely invisible issue, the repercussions of this can be seen in everyday struggles such as poverty, gender inequality, and access to basic civil rights.”
