Continuing Our Conversation about Traditional vs Self-Published Book Promotion

[image error] Our current conversation began on June 27th

You may want to take that link to see what was said…

And, I’ll break my usual pattern of posting to share the questions I asked at the end of that post:

> Have you had a book traditionally published?   Was the marketing for that book sufficient?

> Have you self-published a book?   What promotional strategies are you using?

Or, do you have a book nearly through the revision and editing stages and you’re considering which form of publishing will hel...

Blog Conversation about Traditional vs Self-Published Book Promotion . . .

[image error] Our last conversation—Choosing What to Read—was only one post long, due to no reader comments…

So

I get to start a new discussion about traditional vs self-published book promotion :-)

I prefer “promotion” rather than the more common term “marketing” since promoting sounds less aggressive—to me, “marketing” means “business” and “promotion” means “relationships”…

Some of you may want a bit of background reading before the conversation really gets rolling; so, I’ll choose just a few appropria...

From Scraps to Stories

The author of today’s re-blog shares a wonderful note-taking method; and, among other benefits of using it, she says:

“The process of writing has become more important than the outcome for me and I feel fortunate every day that I am able to create something.”

BREVITY's Nonfiction Blog

A guest post by Anne McGrath

Memories are slippery to hold. Many of what I suspect were my most brilliant story ideas were written on bits of paper too small to keep track of. The tiny notes ended up in the wash...

Blog Conversation about Choosing What to Read . . .

[image error] Our Blog Conversations are on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; but, tune in on the other days of the week for re-blogs from valuable sources I’ve found…

Our last conversation—“What Should I Write?”—ended on June 22nd, because there were no comments; though it did have a run of 4 posts…

So, to begin our discussion about Choosing What to Read, I’ll throw out some thoughts and provocations and hope they elicit a few comments from some of you…

In a related Conversation, back in April—Reading li...

The 5 Cornerstones of Characterization

Today’s re-blog, like all “advice”, should be treated intelligently—take what makes sense, leave the rest; and, perhaps, check it out again in the future, in case you want to change your mind :-)

A Writer's Path

by Michael Mohr

David Corbett—New York Times Notable author of many novels including Blood of Paradise (2007), Do They Know I’m running (2010), and The Mercy of the Night (2015)—published a sparkling, extremely-helpful nonfiction writers’ guide in 2013 entitled, “The Art of Charact...

Still More Conversation About “What Should I Write?” . . .

This Blog Conversation began on June 13th; and, continued on June 18th and June 20th… [image error]

If you check out those posts, you’ll see us moving from the Muse through Meditation into Spontaneous Ideas

And, the post on the 20th had four links to other folks’ considerations of “What Should I Write?”.

Our discussion is continuing today because a writer from the U.K. left this comment on the last post in the series:

“I don’t believe in a muse. All my writing is triggered by a place, an incident, an inj...
