Stephen Maddock is a pseudonym used by James Morgan Walsh, who also wrote crime fiction under his own name and under a series of other pseudonyms.

Walsh was born in Geelong, Australia, and educated in Melbourne. After experience in auctioneering and book-selling, he visited England in 1925 in order to negotiate with publishers and he subsequently returned to Victoria. He moved permanently to London in 1929 and became a writer of detective fiction under his own name and various pseudonyms such as H. Haverstock Hill, Jack Carew, George M White. and, of course, Stephen Maddock.

Under the name Stephen Maddock he wrote 24 thrillers, mostly of a spying nature, beginning with 'A Woman of Destiny' in 1933 and ending with 'Public Mischief' in 1951. H
