Giveaway: Murder for Choir by Joelle Charbonneau

Today marks my first giveaway with the loot, er, books I brought home from the Romance Writers of America annual conference in Anaheim.

I’m delighted to feature friend and fellow author Joelle Charbonneau’s MURDER FOR CHOIR, which I’ve started reading this week.  Joelle and I have connected because we’re agency siblings at the Donald Maass Literary Agency, and we became friends on Twitter.  I got the privilege to meet her in person at RWA this year, and she’s just as charming, intelligent and beautiful as I had expected.

I brought home two copies of MURDER FOR CHOIR – one to give away and one to keep for myself.  I just started the book this morning, and I’ve read the first 22 pages and am really enjoying it!  I love the opening line.  It’s a beautiful book too, and here are the photos:

I especially love the chapter headers!

MURDER FOR CHOIR can be found at Amazon and at Barnes & Noble.

Details of the giveaway:

Question:  What mystery writers do you enjoy reading?

Answer for a chance to win this lovely signed book.  Giveaway ends on Wednesday August 29th at 12 noon MDT (2 pm EST).

Quick update on Hunter’s Season

As I’ve been getting emails from readers inquiring about when Hunter’s Season will be available for pre-order, I wanted to post a quick update.

Barring Barnes & Noble being super slow (for some reason it took them almost a month to get the pre-order page uploaded for Devil’s Gate), Hunter’s Season should be available for pre-order everywhere by early September.  I will be sure to post when the links for Amazon and Barnes & Noble when they go live!

Thanks to everybody for their interest.  I’m excited at this novella’s release!

Blog Post: Vivian Arend and I are having a Twitter ice cream party!!

#FriIceCreamParty

~~~Rules and guidelines~~~
We’ve talked about it before… and now we’re doing it!
We need a little fun to round out the summer. Join @TheaHarrison and @VivianArend on Fridays in August for a chance to win giveaways and more importantly—have an excuse to eat ice cream.
Yum!
How it works:
You pick up the ice cream of your heart’s delight and come out to Twitter on Fridays throughout the month of August. Send out tweets regarding your delectable treat using the hash tag #FriIceCreamParty. (That’s # Fri Ice Cream Party all in one chunk. Hmm, chunks…)
Since we have readers/friends in all time zones, join in when you can.  Vivian will be on Twitter on Fridays between: 1-3 pm PDT (late night noshing with the European crew!) Thea will be on Twitter on Fridays between: 5 to 7 pm MDT (which is 7 to 9 pm EST).
On each Saturday, Thea and Viv will go back through the tweets for that Friday and randomly pull two names to receive an ebook of their choice from our backlists.
September 1 we’ll go back through ALL the tweets for the month and pull two grand-prize winners. One for a Thea book pack, one for a Viv book pack. (Winner’s choice of ebook or print, 4 books total. International.)
Mainly, though, we just plan to eat ice cream and torment all others on Twitter who don’t have any in the house. Sound like fun? Brawhahaha!
Come join the fun!
Thea and Viv
Blog Post: three kinds of swag for readers, reading groups, bloggers, booksellers and libraries
I have finally gotten a post office box in Colorado!
My PO box address is:
Thea Harrison
PO Box 1251
Arvada, CO 80001-1251
I have swag from RWA that I would be delighted to share with readers.  There are three kinds:
~~~ONE~~~

I have six beautiful download cards for TRUE COLORS left over from my Samhain Publishing signing.  If you would like one of these cards, please leave a comment here on my blog and I will pick six of you next Friday August 10th at 12 noon MDT/2 pm EST.

~~~TWO~~~
As promised, I have bookmarks!!  You can see in the photo that the bookmarks are dated, and so these are the only ones I will get printed.  While supplies last, these are available to anyone who wants them– booksellers for promo, individual readers, reading groups and libraries.
If you want bookmarks, first email me at thea@theaharrison.com to let me know how many you want to make sure I haven’t run out of them.  Then you must send a self addressed stamped envelope to my post office box, listed above.
**Important:  You must be sure you have enough postage on your return envelope, or I will not be able to mail these to you.**
~~~THREE~~~

Cards that are NOT romance trading cards.

We had a printing snafu, and now I have 500 each of all of my book / novella covers.  I can’t quite bring myself to throw them away because they are so cute.  These are NOT romance trading cards–I have one turned over in the photo so you can see that the back is blank.  If anyone would like a full set of all nine cards you are welcome to them.

If you want a set of these cards, first email me at thea@theaharrison.com to let me know how many sets you want to make sure I haven’t run out of them.  Then you must send a self addressed stamped envelope to my post office box, listed above.

**Important:  You must be sure you have enough postage on your return envelope–enough for nine business sized cards–or I will not be able to mail these to you.  Also, I will not be able to sign all nine cards.**

Hope you enjoy!

Best,

Thea

Blog Post: pretty bookmarks, to be made available very soon!

The UPS guy brought me new pretty bookmarks today!

I had these created to take to the Romance Writers of America conference this week, but I also made sure to order plenty for after the conference too.  When I return from Anaheim, I am finally going to get around to setting up my post office box address here at my new home.

When I have that mailing address, if you would like some for your bookstore, library, the members of your reading group, for giveaways on your blog, or just for yourself, you can send me an SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) and I will be happy to mail you bookmarks!

Blog Post: Winner of Carly Phillips’ giveaway, and Writer Wednesday goes on hiatus

The winner of this week’s Writer Wednesday with guest author Carly Phillips is Joan Siegel!  Congratulations, Joan!  I’ve emailed her separately.

I hope everybody has enjoyed the Writer Wednesday series I’ve been running.  I’ve loved reading the posts by the guest authors and hope you have too.

It’s now time to give Writer Wednesday a rest.  It’s been a lot of fun, but I have not made any commitment to continuing this long term.  I may or may not pick this up again after August.  Please do leave a comment and let me know what you think.  Would you like Writer Wednesday to continue?

In the meantime, as always, I wish you all many hours of happy reading.

xoxo

Blog Post: Writer Wednesday with guest author Carly Phillips

From Thea:  I’m thrilled to have guest author Carly Phillips visiting on my blog this week.  Carly is another one of those writers I have connected with through the magic of Twitter, and she is absolutely wonderful.

Carly is kindly offering a giveaway with her post, and details follow at the end of her post.

~~~
When Life Gets in the Way …
As Thea will tell you, I was late in getting this blog to her despite the fact that we scheduled the guest spot a long time ago.  Why? Life got in the way.  I’m sure that’s true for all of us, one way or another.  We work, we take care of people around us, pets, family, friends … and sometimes, everything comes to a grinding halt.  That’s the way I’ve been feeling recently.  Illness in the family, a child home from college,  a younger daughter who I am driving to a driver’s ed class that somehow no one mentioned was at 7 AM every other day, and 8:30 on the rest … my schedule is off kilter.  Which means I’m off kilter.
Yet life goes on, right? We work (in my case I write) and do all the things we’re supposed to but it’s harder somehow when you’re just feeling heavier and more burdened.  But, though we all live different kinds of lives, we have one thing in common that brings us all together and yes, can take us away from our troubles.  READING.
The wonderful world of books (and I don’t care how you indulge in your passion, paperback, hardcover, eBook or audio), the ability to go off into another world is something I will never ever take for granted.  This summer, in the midst of madness, I’ve discovered new authors, I’ve entered new (paranormal) worlds, and I’ve gone over the erotica edge and delved into the BDSM world via books.  And when I do this, I’m not thinking about my 6 AM alarm, my sick dad, the wonder and difficulties of having a suddenly adult child living home.  I’m part of something better, at least for awhile.
Another thing I’ve discovered is that despite feeling … yucky … I’ve been able to write through it.  Another way I can escape into a new world.  And that’s what I love about being a writer.
Since becoming a writer, thanks to social media, I’ve been able to talk to readers, other writers, bloggers, reviewers etc. about books.  I learned that many people have what they call, COMFORT READS.  Books they reread when they want to revisit a place or characters they love.  This surprised be because despite having been an avid reader all my life, I rarely reread a book from beginning to end.  Suddenly I’m thinking I should!
So when life gets too crazy, or when you’re just in the mood, do you REREAD a book from beginning to end? Or do you look for a new read to lose yourself in?
Comment for a chance to a win a SERENDIPITY backlist book of your choice -  (Serendipity, Destiny, Kismet, Karma).  The giveaway will end at Thea’s discretion.  Thanks for having me here today!
