Blinded (Our Spring Interactive Story)

Welcome to our spring interactive story entitled Blinded. I hope you are as eager to try this as I am. Below you will find the beginning to our story, from there the plot is up to you. Click on the option you would like and by way of the magical internet, you will be jettisoned off to the next section, per your choosing. Each Thursday (except for April 28) a new set of options will be set-up for you. No worries if you forgot where you left off, there will be storyline clues for you to click through or you can click on the "start from the beginning" button to begin your journey anew. Totally up to you. Since today is our very first run-in with Harper and her friends, you'll only have to click through one decision. Feel free to click the other one if you're curious to see might happen to her if you had chosen differently.

Confused? Well, I think you'll pick it up as we go along. Please leave me feedback in the comments section. Let me know if things get too confusing or if you really want to see a third option. Of course you can always leave me a note of encouragement:D. Enough already! Here's…

Blinded

by Shellie Neumeier

Dear Diary,

The day before yesterday should have been the best day of my life. And it had been until…

"Harper, come out here."

…the sun flare. Mom's pretty freaked. Can't blame her. I'm not freaking…

"What are you doing in there?"

I'm hiding. Who wants to face this world? It'd be different if we were at home.  Josie'd tell me to relax and enjoy 'cause all the schools will have to shut down. I'd even be nice to Alex if he shut up long enough for me to get a word in. But there that won't happen now. Not when we're stranded two hundred and forty-three miles from home. Some college visit, huh?

"Did you hear that, Harper? The news guy said it's worldwide. Can you imagine? Everyone within view of the sun's flare is…is…blind."

We were lucky. Arrived in Madison about an hour before the big flare. At first everything went silent. Seconds later the sounds turned horrific. Cars crashing, planes rushing so close to the ground you ducked instinctively, and screaming mothers everywhere—mine included.

"Channel four says a handful of folks still have their sight. The sighters, as he's calling them, were the ones inside and away from the windows."

I'm never coming out of the bathroom, again.

I laid my pencil beside the hotel notepad and leaned my palms against the bathroom vanity. It felt cool to the touch, calming in a way. Mom's feet shuffled across the worn carpet and stopped outside the bathroom door.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

"Harper, please come out. We need to talk."

We needed more than talk. I faced the mirror and…

Now here's your part. You get to choose what happened to Harper. Click your choice and see what happens.

Harper is blind or Harper is a sighter.

Your decision, please…

YA Author Nicole O'Dell

If you like to read young adult books, you'll want to check out Nicole's work. She writes. She talks. She reads. She changes diapers. Nicole O'Dell is a mom of six–including a set of toddler triplets who may or may not be potty trained sometime in 2011. Jury's still out on that one. She is the author of a bunch of YA books, including the popular Scenarios for Girls interactive fiction series and the upcoming Diamond Estates Series, 10/11. She's also the host of Teen Talk Radio at www.choicesradio.com.

You can find her books and links to all the fun social stuff at www.nicoleodell.com.

Here's her latest 2-in-1 book trailer…

On Friday I'll post a review of Swept Away. It's a great week for interactive stories!

A New Story Series…

No this isn't the big announcement…that's still coming. But this is a new, interactive story series. Beginning this Thursday, I'll start us off on a new adventure. This time, you'll be able to click on the story direction of your choosing and follow the tale as it develops. Each week, a new set of choices will be added, so you can read through the tale while you control what the characters do. Confused? Good :D , you'll have to come back and give it a try. Ready to play? Well, you'll just have to wait till Thursday.

I'll give you a hint, though…our story begins where your vision ends.

See you Thursday.

Quiet and Sneaky

Happy Friday! I know I've been a bit quiet this week. Recovering from a crazy month, I suppose. I also have a little something up my sleeve, but I can't tell you what it is. Not yet. Soon. I promise.

Ok, I'll give you a hint. If you're a teen and you like to write/read and you like FREE stuff, you're going to love this. That's it. You can't pull anything else out of me. Now stop trying. Really. Stop.

Have a great weekend everyone!

? of the day…What would you do on the first warm day of the year? If it rained would you still do it?
