Book Blitz: Soulless by Jacinta Maree

Title: Soulless: The Immortal Gene, Book 1 Author: Jacinta Maree Genre: Dystopian / Supernatural New Adult Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours Blurb: Welcome to Soulless. We are the generation that laughs at death. Reincarnation; what was once considered a gift of immortality has become an eternity of nightmares. Nadia Richards lives in a world plagued by reincarnation, a system of recycling souls where all past memories, personalities and traumatic events are relived daily in disjointed sequences. Trapped within their own warped realities, not even the richest and most powerful are saved from their own minds unraveling. Madness is the new human nature, and civilizations are crumpling beneath themselves trying to outrun it. Within a society that ignores death, Nadia appears to be the one exception to the reincarnation trap. Born without any reincarnated memories and with printless eyes, the hot tempered 19 year old quickly becomes the ultimate prize to all those wishing to end the vicious cycle, or for some, to ensure they could evade death forever. Facebook Release Party: https://www.facebook.com/events/148595475478773/ Born in Melbourne Australia, Jacinta Maree considers herself a chocoholic with an obsession with dragons, video gaming and Japan. She writes a variety of genres including YA paranormal, steampunk, horror, new adult, dystopian and fantasy. Winner of 2014 Horror of the year and bestselling author, Jacinta writes to bring enjoyment to others while fulfilling her own need to explore the weird and the impossible. There had been plenty of stories about how the human race would end. Unlike the movies from Hollywood, there was no big bang like a sun exploding; there was no catastrophic moment where our world was flipped upside down like in a nuclear war or zombie virus outbreak. It was gradual, like a seeping virus that withered everything within its path until it ground us down into brittle, hollowed cores. It wasn’t out to destroy our bodies; it destroyed everything we once treasured. Hope, love, compassion, joy… even our mortality. It was all gone. And now it mocked us with a peace we could never achieve, death.

Excerpt :

There was a time when I lived for the pack, when I would do anything to save my people. The white wolves were slowly reducing in number, and now everyone was desperate, struggling to make ends meet before we were wiped into extinction. I was twenty-four years old, and a daughter of the Northern pack alpha. It was my duty to continue my lineage. The only problem was, there were no other unmated alphas around other than my best friend, Sebastian, and the supreme douche, Kade Whitemore.

There was no way in hell I was going to alliance myself with that rat bastard. He was alpha of the Yukon pack, violent, and an overbearing ass who’d rather see me on my back with my legs spread open than being his equal. I’d rather die than be forced to be his mate for all eternity. Why couldn’t I mate with Sebastian? Thinking of fucking him gave me the willies, but anything was better than Kade.

Anger racked my body and I sat there, seething . . . until I felt him. He was coming for me; I could sense him drawing near. The closer we got to the meadow, the more I could smell Kade and his excitement—his lust. Hopefully, he could smell the rage and disgust coming from me.

Wolves mated for life; it was a sacred union. It wasn’t like a human marriage where you could end it by signing a piece of paper. Our unions weren’t something you did lightly. It was also not a decision I was going to let my parents make for me. The only way to escape would be to kill him, and the last thing I wanted to do was start a war between packs. There had to be another way.

Up ahead, in wolf form, Kade kept his stare dialed in on me. He was large—like all alpha males tended to be—but I wasn’t impressed. He could smell my indifference and in return growled low, challenging me. I glared straight at him, not backing down, nor lowering my head. No one would ever make me submit.

Hi, Mary Ann. I'm so glad you dropped by today. Please tell the readers some behind the scene facts about yourself. You may or may not know:

One of the best surprises was delivered via Federal Express when I received a thank you signed by the marines serving aboard the USS Ronald Reagan along with a lovely blue throw blanket with the USS Ronald Reagan emblem stitched into the fabric.  This was in response to my book donation for their reading pleasure - boxes of signed copies of my work.

Picture After visiting the Thetford Priory Ruins in Norfolk, UK, I learned that Ghost Hunters had featured the site, which is reputedly haunted.  I did not see any specters, much to my disappointment.

Picture Being a proud Trekker, I have attended Star Trek conventions in New York City and have been to the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton, and can be found on the Voyager bridge next to Captain Janeway.
Picture Nancy Walker (actress best known for appearing on the TV show Rhoda) and I almost collided on a sidewalk in Manhattan.
Picture When attending an Army / Navy game, the only available tickets were on the Army side - being a Navy baby, this did not bode well every time I cheered the midshipmen’s touchdowns.  I did get out of the stadium alive.  And yes, Navy won!

Book Blitz: Ascenders by C.L. Gaber

Picture Title: Ascenders
Author: C.L. Gaber
Genre: YA Fantasy/Sci-Fi

Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours

Picture
Blurb:
Walker Callaghan doesn't know what happened to her. One minute she was living her teenage life in suburban Chicago...and the next minute, she was in a strange place and in a brand new school with absolutely no homework, no rules, and no consequences. Walker Callaghan, 17, is dead. She doesn't go to heaven or hell. She lands at The Academy, a middle realm where teenagers have one thing in common: They were the morning announcement at their high schools because they died young.

These high school kids are now caught in a strange “in-between” zone where life hasn’t changed very much. In fact, this special teen limbo looks a lot like life in a quaint Michigan town complete with jocks, popular girls and cliques. "There are even cheerleaders in death," Walker observes. It's not a coincidence that the music teacher is a guy named Kurt who "used to have this band." The drama teacher, Heath, is crush worthy because back in his life, he starred in some superhero movie.

Principal King explains the rules -- there are none. Why? You can't die twice.

There is no homework. No tests. No SATS. You're just there to learn because the human brain isn't fully formed until you're 24.

By the way, you can't get hurt physically, so race your Harley off that hillside. But falling in love is the most dangerous thing you can do ...because no one knows how long you'll stay in this realm or what's next.

"Losing someone you love would be like dying twice," Walker says.

* * * * * *
Walker Callaghan has just arrived at the Academy after a tragic car accident. “Is this heaven or is this high school?” she asks.

She finds out her new life is a bit of both as she falls in love with tat-covered, bad boy Daniel Reid who is about to break the only sacred rule of this place. He's looking for a portal to return back to the living realm.

He needs just one hour to retrieve his younger brother who strangely never arrived at The Academy. Bobby is an Earth Bound Spirit, stuck at a plane crash site that took both of their lives as their rich father piloted his private jet nose-first into a cornfield on Christmas Eve.

Walker loves Daniel and risks it all to go with him.

Have they learned enough to outsmart dangerous forces while transporting a young child with them? Can their love survive the fragmented evil parts of themselves that are now hunting them down as they try to find a way back to the middle?

At the Academy, you learn the lessons of an after-lifetime.

Excerpt:

INTRODUCTION

I was there. And then I was gone.
My mother gave me no notice that we were relocating.

Suddenly, we had just moved without all that annoying planning and packing. Somehow my clothes were thrown into boxes with shoes that were missing mates. Someone had packed my books and CDs, and had even reached under my bed into that secret hiding place I counted on to protect my treasures; like the iPod loaded with the best and worst of everything from Nirvana to the Stones, plus my lucky green rabbit’s foot—because you just never knew when you would need a little extra luck.

My mother must have remembered the family photo album because there it was on our brand-new living room coffee table that I passed on the way to my very own bedroom and a bed I had never slept in a day in my life.

It was strange because we could barely afford to pay the rent each month, let alone buy something as nice as a hand-carved oak table imported from someplace far, far away. When I had looked, the tag didn’t say from where. It was just imported.

It was one of those times when you go from A to Z so fast that you hardly remember any of the in-between. Or as I—Walker Callaghan—senior at Kennedy High School in suburban Chicago and news editor of the school paper the Charger liked to say, “Maybe it’s not about the happy ending. Maybe it’s about the story.”

Flopping onto my new, handsome, four-poster bed with lovely little tulips carved into the wood, I thought it was so unlike my mother, the master planner, to do something this off-the-cuff. My mother was a woman who made a battle plan to go to the local 7-Eleven for almost-expiration-date milk. Even weirder was the fact that we had moved farther away than anyone imagined. A lot farther.

“So run this by me one more time, Mom,” I shouted. “I must have been heavily medicated or feeling really sorry for myself. We moved? You pulled the trigger. Bang-bang—relocation?”

I didn’t give her time to answer.

“A new school in my senior year of high school?” I called out to her on a murky, cold winter morning on Burning Tree Court.

Even though I was letting the heat escape and Mom had always said we didn’t live to “support Commonwealth Edison,” our old electric company, I still opened my bedroom window wide and found that the air drifting in was stun-your-senses Arctic cold. It smelled green and fresh outside and those dense marshmallow patches of white fluff in the sky could only mean serious snow because they were roasted dark on the bottom.

I tried to shiver, but couldn’t. I was perfectly warm despite the window and the fact that I was wearing faded jeans and a well- washed blue cotton tank that read: Normal People Scare Me.

In true dramatic fashion, I couldn’t resist needling the one 12

person responsible for our fate, our new house, and everything in it that was unknown and strange. “Mom, new school. Senior year. I’ll have no friends here. Are you trying to kill me?”

Without knowing how or why, I was now enrolled in this elite- sounding new school called the Academy, which sounded quite upscale and serious to a girl whose educational pursuits consisted of a generic public-school education outside of a big melting-pot city, where you were either rich (if you were lucky) or you were normal (if you were like everybody else). Our family worked hard at being desperately normal.

“Great, it will be a bunch of rich, stuck-up snobs who will hate me—and cheerleaders. There are always cheerleaders.  They’re like cockroaches. You can’t get rid of them,” I concluded, yelling from my new room to hers, which was somewhere down a hallway that I had never really navigated before.

“I hear it’s quite fancy,” Mom called from her room. “A Callaghan going to a private school. Imagine.”

I didn’t have to imagine it as I was living it. Of course, I didn’t know it at the time, but when I had asked that question,  Madeleine Callaghan, my mom, the mover and shaker in my life, had cringed and then cried hard into a brand-new washcloth she didn’t recognize—the thick kind we could never afford. The weeper was the one who had given me the odd-for-a-girl first name, which was her maiden name before she married my father, steel worker Sam Callaghan. We weren’t just blue-collar, but faded blue-collar from clothes that had far too many seasons of washings. In our family, the rule was “Don’t throw it out unless it’s dead-dead.”

Running my finger along the smooth wood of my expensive new dresser with the intoxicating just-cut-tree smell, I ducked down on the ground to read the label on the bottom. Imported from R-19877. Really? Did we win the lottery? And what was with the secret spy code?

“Honey, please, I’m begging you,” Mom answered after appearing in my doorway. “For once, let’s not do the Diane Sawyer investigation act. I can’t do twenty rounds of questions. Not today.” Her voice sounded thick like she had a cold, so I closed the window.

“There is no need to insult Diane who probably doesn’t even have a dresser this nice,” I replied.

“Walker, let me make you some breakfast,” Mom said. “Everything is always better after a little oatmeal and orange juice. You’ll see.”

Marcus pinned her against the wall next to the sauna door, his body pressed into hers. Christina wrapped her arms around his neck and returned his kiss with equal urgency. His hunger fueled her desire. He built the lust between them, letting their passion mix in their mindlink until, like a tornado, their desire circulated between them, building until it became an unstoppable whirlwind.

Nicholai opened the door to the sauna and made a hasty exit.

“Get a room, you two.” Nicholai glanced at them quickly, a smile on his handsome face.

Marcus grabbed the open sauna door, catching it before it closed as he broke their kiss. “Sounds like a plan. I think this room will do.”

Her welcoming pools of blue had been stained to inky black voids of nothingness. Fat cerulean veins wriggled beneath the surface of her skin, like roused and ravenous serpents. Malachi pulled back, Peyton’s body floating upright as if hooked by the ribs and dragged. Bones audibly snapped, and her head contorted at a freakish angle to gape in Ireland’s direction. To the cantankerous Horseman, that was the equivalent of throwing down the gauntlet. Feeling her senses sharpen, Ireland braced herself with one hand on the back of a booth. Catapulting over Malachi’s head, she landed beside him in a low crouch and forcibly shoved him aside. The lights continued to flash, each illumination revealing another grisly contortion of Peyton’s body: knees bending backward, arms twisting in countless joints, her spine seemingly liquid as she rolled head over feet in Ireland’s direction. The motion appeared more arachnid than human. The window to their right shattered in a spray of shards, Ireland’s sword sailing in to settle into her waiting palm. While everyone else shielded themselves from the shrapnel, she struck a defensive pose with her sword by her ear in an overhand grasp. “Don’t make me stab a nun,” she growled. “I mean, I’ll do it, but I won’t feel good about it.” Again, the nun’s body rotated in an inexplicably spineless back walkover that ended with her feet being planted directly in front of Ireland. Chest rising and falling with the yearning for bedlam, Ireland hissed out a simple warning, “Don’t do this.” Peyton’s body retracted board straight, the ends of her hair brushing the floor before she flung forward as if on a spring. Her fingers darted out to encircle the wrist of Ireland’s sword wielding hand. Blood trickled from her nose, staining her lips with ruby droplets. Leaning in, cheek to cheek, her breath singed Ireland’s nostrils with the foul, rotten-egg stench of sulfur. “Take … her … to … hell,” Peyton rasped against Ireland’s ear. The lights beamed back on. The ghouls gone. Letting her sword fall to the ground with an ear-piercing twang, Ireland caught the full weight of Peyton’s body as she fell limp against her. “I’m pretty sure we’re already there,” she rumbled and eased the girl to the ground.

Excerpt:

“Let her go, now!” bellowed Marcus. He sprang from the entry of the room, landing on top of Michael just as the son of a bitch released Christina. The two hit the floor in a ball of limbs. They rolled around the hard wood, appendages flailing. Marcus came to rest on top of Michael, straddling his chest.

“Christina is my heartmate. You will not touch her, ever.”

Marcus turned his angry stare on the rest of the group gathered by the French doors. “Did you hear me? No one is to touch her?”

Demetri put his hands up in front of his chest in a gesture of surrender. “We got it, Marcus. We got it. No one is going to hurt your mate.” His voice sounded like smooth silk, and Marcus detected the enchantment in his voice trying to push through the rage.

Lowering his hands, Demetri continued, “Marcus, get off Michael. It was a misunderstanding. Wasn’t it, Michael?”

“Yeah,” Michael replied in a breathy voice. The weight of Marcus on his chest obviously made it difficult for him to breathe. “I’m sorry. I thought she was a snack.”

Marcus’ head snapped back to Michael. He bared his fangs, and a hiss pushed through his lips before he yelled, “A SNACK!”

The Alpha reared back his arm, his fingers curled into a tight fist. It made a satisfying crunch when it contacted with Michael’s nose.

Book Blitz: Shadowed Box Set by Kate Hill

Picture Dear Readers, please join me in welcoming Rutendo from the Shadowed Series. He agreed to sit down with me to share a bit about himself and the Shadowing Angels. I'm excited to share this character interview with you so lets get to it.

Please describe your job, Rutendo.

It's more than a job. It's my very existence. I'm leader of the Shadowing Angels. My warriors are different than other angels. They were once demons, or are the product of demons, but they have chosen to use their powers to protect people from evil.

What special powers do you have?

As a pure warrior angel, I have many, including the power to banish demons and to heal. Like other angels, I travel at will through the barriers between heaven, hell and mortal worlds.

Some might say one of your greatest powers is your ability to guide those who are tainted by evil toward a life of good. How do you feel about that?

It's true that my shadowing angels have murky pasts and that I help mold them into protectors, but the desire to do good is within them. That is something no one, not even an angel, can give them unless they have the desire to receive that gift.

What's one thing you've never told anyone?

I know some of my warriors don't believe I can truly understand them because I'm a pure angel. I've never been mortal and I've never been a demon. They think when it comes to temptation, I'm just an onlooker, but they don't know everything about my existence.

Please tell us about some of your warriors.

Michael was born a demon, but reared by an angel. Oliver is the son of a sex demon and a former angel. Like my other warriors, he's had some rough times transitioning to a Shadowing Angel, but one of my finest, Henrie, was the woman to help him through it. Sinister's case was more complicated than most. He was a demon who couldn't live up to Hell's expectations, which turned out to be a good thing for us. You can read about them all in the Shadowed collection.

One last question. . .

Sorry, but I'm receiving a telepathic call from one of my warriors. Have to fly.

Now a little about Shadowed (Box Set) by Kate Hill

Shadowing angels make sure their charges get the chance every new soul deserves. Born of two demons, Michael is torn between his desire for a normal life and his demonic nature. Rich and sinfully sexy, he has cut himself off from relationships other than physical. When his favorite escort is brutally murdered, Michael uses his demonic skills to find her attacker, but Britt believes he's to blame, and she's determined to bring her sister's murderer to justice. Can she keep from falling in love with a man torn between good and evil?

The son of a sex demon and a fallen angel, Oliver struggles to keep his libido under control while on duty as a shadowing angel in the wilderness of Alaska. He needs help and it arrives in the form of a sexy, no-nonsense former demon. Henrie, a shadowing angel with experience, is the perfect woman to assist a man desperate to regain his self-control. What she discovers is he actually needs to cut loose, especially on the evil forces that are secretly plotting to destroy him.

Sinister knows that a demon impersonating an angel must be breaking some cosmic rule, but that's the least of his worries. By loving Jayden and surrendering to his good side, he has sealed his fate and will be destroyed by his hellish masters. Jayden is used to working on her own, but she ends up with a rather strange guardian angel, one she can't help loving. Can they find a way to save a demon with an angelic soul?

Publisher's Note: Shadowed Box Set contains the previously published novellas Frenzied, Alaskan Flame, and I'll Be Damned.

With a sigh, Jayden peeled off her bloody clothes and took a long shower, as if she could wash away the horror of the night along with the gore. She wasn't happy about killing a man, but it had been self-defense. Lou had no doubt intended to kill her and he'd shot Cinder.

Cinder bothered her even more than Lou. She still couldn't believe what she'd seen. Part of her wondered if she hadn't imagined it. If the police hadn't asked her about the second wounded man she'd reported to the emergency dispatcher, she would have doubted her sanity.

She'd nearly told the cops the truth, but refrained. They would think she was either crazy or a liar. Instead she told them what Cinder had suggested--that the second man had run off. Maybe he hadn't been injured as badly as she'd thought, or perhaps he'd been wearing some kind of bulletproof vest.

She insisted she had no idea who he was, but told them he'd helped her and hadn't appeared to be with Lou.

The police seemed satisfied, at least for the moment.

Jayden turned off the water, stepped out of the shower and dried off. She wrapped the towel around her and walked into her bedroom where she gasped upon seeing Cinder standing by the window. He'd cleaned up and changed out of his bloodstained clothes. Dressed in black pants and a red shirt that draped his muscular frame, he looked incredibly sexy.

"Damn it! You need to stop doing this. You're going to give me a heart attack," she said.

"I'm sorry. I just came by to make sure you're all right."

"And you promised to tell me who and what you are."

"I know." He stepped toward her. Their gazes locked and something in his luminous blue eyes aroused her so much that she almost squirmed. He lifted his hand to her face and caressed her cheek.

Jayden swayed toward him and he covered her mouth in a deep, tender kiss.
