Ione lived in a number of areas around Oregon growing up, graduating from Albany High School. She married Ivan (Ike) Reed on her 18th Birthday. They purchased a farm near Mapleton in 1937. Living to be 100, Ione wrote for many publications, including Flower & Garden, Organic Gardening, Western Living, The Eugene Register Guard and Oregon Farmer.
