Celebrating Manga Superheroes

Are you a lover of Japanese manga? Summer Reading 2015 is all about celebrating heroes! There is no better way for a manga lover to start out this summer by checking out our Manga Superheroes summer reading list. Here are just a few selections from that list that come recommended by KDL staff:

Bleach

Bleach

Tite Kubo

GRAPHIC TEEN BLEACH

Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but this ability doesn’t change his life nearly as much as his close encounter with Rukia Kuchiki. While fighting an evil spirit, Rukia lends Ichigo some of her powers so that he can save his family. But much to her surprise, Ichigo becomes a Soul Reaper himself.

Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail

Hiro Mashima

GRAPHIC TEEN FAIRY

Across the Fiore kingdom, wizards join guilds and make their pay by filling magical needs—but one guild has a reputation as the roughest, rowdiest, most dangerous of all: Fairy Tail! When four young Fairy Tail members unite, their bond is forged by a power found in neither muscle nor magic and grows stronger with every mission.

Full Metal Alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist Hiromu Arakawa

GRAPHIC TEEN FULLMETAL

As young boys, Edward & Alphonse Elric dabbled in alchemy to try to resurrect their dead mother. As a result, Ed lost one arm and one leg, while Al lost his entire body and had his spirit sealed into a suit of armor. Now, they are searching for the fabled Philosopher’s Stone to restore what they’ve lost.

InuYasha

Inuyasha Rumiko Takahashi

GRAPHIC TEEN INUYASHA

Transported back to Japan’s feudal era, high school student Kagome accidentally releases the feral half-demon dog boy Inuyasha from his imprisonment for stealing the Jewel of Four Souls.

Give New Life to Old Books

If spring cleaning left you with a pile of unwanted books, instead of tossing them out, try these crafts to extend their lifespans.

Say goodbye to fumbling with charging cords on night stands! With a little slicing and dicing, turn a hardcover favorite into a cellphone docking station.

Perfect for a themed dinner, creating your own table runner from old pages is a conversation starter for sure!

This novel idea turns hardcover books into planters for small plants. Succulents and cacti are ideal because of how little water they require.

For those who love repetition, here’s a craft you can do while binge-watching your favorite series. Create a beautiful rose wreath by rolling the pages of old books into buds.
