Writing and Christmas shopping

I know what you're thinking, Christmas shopping? But it is that time of the year and if you've watched even a second of TV you probably saw a Christmas commercial. It's overbearing, I agree. Which is why I've been shopping all year, finding things I know the family & friends will like and storing it away until the time when I can give their gifts. I find it saves money and sanity.

Which is just as well, as I have a lot of writing to do. I really want to finish both menage stories by year's...

Wednesday Victorian: Nellie Bly and World Travel

[image error] November 14, 1889: Nellie Bly was the world famous female journalist who defied convention and did what everyone said she couldn't. Meaning, write meaningful, insightful journalistic reports in a 'man's world'. She exposed corruption, poor working and living conditions, and horrible abuse of the mentally ill. All first hand.

Pft to those naysayers. She certainly showed them, the first female investigative journalist. (Some consider her the pioneer, period.)

Thank you and #goals

[image error] [image error] First I'd like to thank all our Armed Service Vets. Technically, the actual day was yesterday with the cease fire happening at 11AM on November 11, 1918. However, it's being 'observed' today. No matter, my thanks remains the same:

Without you, the life and freedom I enjoy today wouldn't be possible. So I offer a very heartfelt and gracious thank you!

Now for my goals: Taking this week to flesh out my Edwardian story, it needs a little something more and I have to figure that out before I contin...

Friday Recipe: Thanksgiving Appetizer

I know Canada already celebrated their Thanksgiving, but America's Thanksgiving is in a few weeks and it's time for 3 things:
Getting ready to stuff yourself
Doing so on a budget
Helping others

Let's start backwards: Helping others is as simple as donating that free turkey to a local food bank, giving a cash donation to Feeding America, or even helping out during Thanksgiving. I've decided to donate that free turkey, after all someone needs it more than I do!

Now, for making Thanksgiving dinner on...

Helping Hurricane #Sandy Victims

Donation scams abound, let's face it, so please be careful!! And many nations were harmed by this autumn hurricane-turned-nor'easter. If you'd like to help, The Red Cross, Salvation Army, and National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster where you can help by state.

You can even text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10.

The White House website has several suggestions for helping survivors, and I have to say I really like the way they worded that. How to help the survivors of Hurricane Sandy...
