[TW RAPE, RAPE APOLOGY, VICTIM BLAMING]

Asshole of the Day, August 29, 2013: Todd Baugh

by TeaPartyCat

When it comes to statutory rape, a 54-year-old having sex with a 14-year-old seems pretty open-and-shut. Too young to consent. There can be no other factors. No brainer, right?

Not to Judge Todd Baugh. He decided that the girl was “older than her chronological age”, and so rather than give the rapist 15 years in prison, suspends all but 31 days.

And he says this knowing that the girl has since committed suicide.

Asshole.

There’s also a petition against the judge who excused statutory rape up from Elayne Boosler if you want to sign: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/848/062/410/unseat-judge-g-todd-baugh-fire-principal-scott-anderson/

Secretary of State John Kerry...

Secretary of State John Kerry referenced this photograph when making his speech today, trying to drive home how awful the Syrian chemical attack was as he tried to convince us why we should go to war. One problem. The picture isn’t even from Syria. It’s from Iraq in 2003. The photographer, Marco di Lauro, said he nearly “fell off his chair” when he saw it was being used to promote a war in Syria. It’s getting pretty disturbing to see how far our politicians, both Republican and Democrat, are willing to go to drum up support for a war nobody wants.

(Not my original content.  The image is set to click through to the original post this was taken from.)

In fact, that’s not the only time THIS photo in particular has been used as propaganda to fuel war with Syria. In May, 2012, di Lauro said he was “astonished” at the failure of the BBC to check their sources. The BBC had “accidentally” used this picture taken in to illustrate the senseless massacre of children in Syria.

The picture, which was actually taken on March 27, 2003, shows a young Iraqi child jumping over dozens of white body bags containing skeletons found in a desert south of Baghdad.

But John Kerry doesn’t care. He said during the same speech that “some of what we know will only be released to members of Congress, the representatives of the American people. That means that some things we do know we can’t talk about publicly.

That’s right folks. They know WHY they want to go to war in Syria. They just can’t tell you. They’re gonna tell Congress, though, who presumably will have to pinky-swear not to tell what they know until the war is over.

If you aren’t hoarse in the throat after reading this, you should reconsider your priorities in life.
