Dream Big with This Pair of Fantastic Interviews on SNOOZE
Sol Luckman
“I, Chuang Chou, dreamed I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, for all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware I was Chou. Soon I awakened, and there I was, myself again. Now I do not know whether I was a man dreaming I was a butterfly—or whether I am a butterfly dreaming I am a man.” Zhuangzi
Zhuangzi’s famous quote serves as the epigraph to my Amazon bestselling paranormal novel, SNOOZE: A STORY OF AWAKENING, the epic metaphysical tale of one extraordinary boy’s awakening to the reality-altering quality of his dreams.
Reviews have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Indie Reader had this to say about this newest sensation in visionary fiction that is taking the new age crowd by storm:
“SNOOZE is a captivating coming-of-age tale about a gifted boy traveling to a fantastical realm to save his father … Thanks to author Sol Luckman’s writing ability, SNOOZE can be enjoyed by readers of all ages, despite being aimed at young adults. Right off the bat, the writing is engaging and captures the attention.”
Readers’ Favorite was even more effusive:
“Luckman’s dazzling abilities as a novelist abound with lyrical prose … Although [SNOOZE] chronicles a boys transition into manhood, I would not consider it young adult. The provocative subject matter of science and spirituality is very mature … If you enjoy colorful characters, a fast-paced plot and stories that tug at your heart, this novel in eighty-four chapters is anything but a yawn.”
For starters, check out this wide-ranging interview on SNOOZE with author and astrologer Laura Walker (THE BLACK MOON: GUIDE TO HEALING OUR SHADOW SIDE), who likened the novel to a new CELESTINE PROPHECY.

More recently, I joined Lance White, author of TALES OF A ZANY MYSTIC, for a Fireside Chat about SNOOZE on BBS Radio.
Lance and I covered a lot of ground in less than an hour, placing special emphasis on the manner in which SNOOZE touches on a plethora of conspiracy theories (many of which are proving true even as a I write for those willing to … awaken).
Lance summarized our chat this way:
Sol Luckman shared the story about how his latest book, SNOOZE: A STORY OF AWAKENING, came about. It’s a moving story, and the book is a multi-dimensional, many-faceted gem of a read. From mysteries to metaphysics, entering the dream world, Bigfoot, high magic and daring feats of courage, this book has it all … This is a delightful show, which opens up the person behind the writing, and I must admit he’s a very likeable fellow! I highly recommend [SNOOZE] for all ages. It’s an exciting journey within. Don’t miss it!

Was Historical Russian “Apewoman” Really a Sasquatch?

Sol Luckman
I wish to take this opportunity to share with readers interested in the paranormal and cryptozoology this recent fascinating article from the INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TIMES:
Russian “Apewoman” Could Have Been a Yeti, According to DNA Tests
Squatch skeptics love to point out the lack of verifiable evidence of Bigfoot and its arctic cousin, the Yeti. Then again, skeptics love to sweep the existing evidence of hominid cryptids under the carpet, as brilliantly pointed out by the late Lloyd Pye in the following seminal lecture from 1999 ...

Ascension, Enlightenment & Unity Consciousness in SNOOZE: A STORY OF AWAKENING

Sol Luckman
When I began writing my award-winning metaphysical novel, SNOOZE: A STORY OF AWAKENING, at the start of 2013, little did I know this paranormal, coming-of-age tale about a boy learning to harness the power of lucid dreams would include important themes having to do with Dewey Larson’s Reciprocal System of physical theory, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s Five Stages of Grief, Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, and Lloyd Pye’s revolutionary theories on mysterious hominids like Bigfoot.

It also hadn’t occurred to me I would ultimately be writing a novel about ascension, enlightenment and unity consciousness—hot topics in the spiritual traditions so many of us die-hard modern-day mystics are drawn to: shamanism, Hermeticism, Tibetan Buddhism, esoteric Christianity, Gnosticism.
I was encouraged by SNOOZE’s early rave reviews to begin submitting the book to contests. In 2014, soon after the novel’s publication, SNOOZE received an honorable mention in the Beach Book Festival Prize Competition. I was especially pleased with this result because SNOOZE placed in the general fiction category and I was eager to demonstrate that this book merits a wide audience.
SNOOZE’s breakthrough came a year later when it won the 2015 National Indie Excellence Award in the category of new age fiction.
Awarded since 2007, the NIEA competition is judged by experts from all aspects of the Indie book industry. This includes publishers, authors, editors, book cover designers and copywriters. Winners are determined based on “overall excellence of presentation in addition to the writing.”
In SNOOZE, the mind-bending tale of one gifted boy’s awakening, we follow Max Diver, aka “Snooze,” along the razor’s edge of a quest to rescue his astronaut father from a fate stranger than death in the exotic, perilous Otherworld of sleep.
The two chapters excerpted below detail Max’s spiritual initiation. This section takes place on the heels of a series of truly otherworldly adventures in the Otherworld, with Max’s twin, Maxwallah, and the latter’s mother, Artemisia, acting as mentors.
In the second half of this excerpt, Max’s telepathic Bigfoot guide, Zana, appears. Portrayed sympathetically as an intelligent yet animalistic humanoid displaying wisdom and a sense of humor, she and her fellow Almasty—to use the Russian term for Sasquatch—play a decisive role in Max’s navigating the slippery reality of the Otherworld.

Intro to Award-winning Author Sol Luckman’s New Humor Book, THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY

Sol Luckman

Of all the anthologized American literature I devoured in my high school English classes, none stuck in my mind quite like, or quite as long as, Ambrose Bierce’s wickedly satirical masterpiece, THE DEVIL’S DICTIONARY.

Putting aside any pretense to conformity or prudishness on my part, I’m the first to admit this deliciously warped glossary—originally titled THE CYNIC’S WORD BOOK when it appeared in 1906—appealed primarily to the little devil in my wayward teenage self.
A master wordsmith in the comical vein of his good buddy Mark Twain (whom he uncannily resembled and to whom he is often compared), Bierce indelibly defined love as “a temporary insanity curable by marriage,” litigation as “a machine which you go into as a pig and come out of as a sausage,” patience as “a minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue,” and an egotist as “a person of low taste, more interested in himself than in me.”
If you don’t find these definitions hilarious, or at least amusing, I advise you to stop reading now and go rustle up a sense of humor before it’s too late.

Three Fantastic 5-Star Reviews of THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY

Sol Luckman
The first reviews of my politically incorrect foray into satire, THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY, have come in—and they’re positively glowing!

In this knee-slapping dictionary for coming to terms with modern culture (or lack thereof), politics (so-called) and life (such as it is), I endeavor to reinvigorate satire to prove that—though we might not be able to change the world—we can at least have a good laugh at it.
Then again, maybe laughter can transform the world!

Taking a page from Ambrose Bierce’s scathing satirical masterpiece, THE DEVIL’S DICTIONARY, THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY updates the genre to include blistering contemporary references and no small sampling of risqué humor to make adults giggle like mischievous teens.
Early Reviews of THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY
Here are my first three reviews …
“Much of society has lost its sense of humor for fear of melting the heart of the next snowflake down the road. I say, turn up the heat. It is much needed … THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY does this with wit and charm worthy of notice.” Andrew L. Foss
“THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY is a sardonic antidote to the trite and asinine slogans and catchphrases–the basic language–of Big Brother’s thought-control system. On one level, it’s light and witty comic relief, and beyond the playful satire, it is scathingly accurate! If you’re in need of some conscious, fun, and thought-provoking wordplay then you might start with THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY. Warning: reader may experience symptoms of higher consciousness, greater clarity, and general merriment.” Brendan D. Murphy
“I’ve never had so many belly laughs in my entire life. [This book] is absolutely witty, ‘spot on’ and I LOVE IT … THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY (Devilish as it may be) adds a quality of ‘lightness’ in bringing about such laughter. I do sincerely feel we may each gain by experiencing more and more laughs in meeting the existing chaos.” Doris Moreau

“Superlative Fiction”—INDIE SHAMAN Magazine Reviews the Award-winning SNOOZE: A STORY OF AWAKENING

Reviewed by June Kent for INDIE SHAMAN Magazine
Superlative fiction! SNOOZE tells the captivating “coming-of-age” tale of Max Diver (aka “Snooze”) as he accepts and explores his ability to travel in his dreams and ventures on a quest to rescue his astronaut father.

Engrossing, entertaining and occasionally humorous, SNOOZE also takes a look at a wide range of subjects including levitation, telepathy, lucid dreaming, spirit animals, parallel universes and shamanic-like journeying, giving a wide range of information effortlessly absorbed as you enjoy the story as well as much food for thought should you want it. Fortunately it’s a fair size book, larger than the average paperback at 486 pages—although time certainly “flew by” for me when reading it.
Author Sol Luckman says that (like me) his earliest dreams were lucid ones of flying and these exhilarating dreams still occur for him today. The writing in SNOOZE is equally animated and I enjoyed every minute of Max’s adventure as, with the support of friends, he “awakens” to the life-changing reality of his dreams and accepts who he is.
The book says it’s aimed at “Teen and up” agewise but I’m 58 and enjoyed every minute of it—it’s written in a highly accessible style but sufficiently articulate to keep the most discriminating reader engrossed.
Highly original fiction with more than a dash of the otherworld; well-developed characters, both male and female; excellent adventures; heartwarming conclusion and lots of wonderful ideas—what is there not to like? Highly recommended, a must-read. I’m definitely going to look out for more from this author!

Award-winning author receives another major recognition, this time for Humor in the 9th Annual 2018 International Book Awards!

The 9th Annual 2018 International Book Awards, sponsored by the American Book Fest, recognized Sol Luckman’s diabolically lighthearted book of satire, THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY: A SPIRITED GLOSSARY FOR THE LITTLE DEVIL IN YOU, as an award-winning Finalist in the category of Humor in this year’s competition.
The IBA is a distinguished international book award competition based in Los Angeles and Phoenix. This year’s competition was open to titles published from 2016-18 and drew over 2,000 applicants vying for recognition in approximately 90 categories.
Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of American Book Fest, commented that this year’s contest attracted entries from publishers and authors around the world.
Keen remarked of the awards, “The 2018 results represent a phenomenal mix of books from a wide array of publishers throughout the world. With a full publicity and marketing campaign promoting the results of IBA, this year’s winners and finalists will gain additional media coverage for the summer season.”
Keen added, “IBA’s success begins with the enthusiastic participation of authors and publishers and continues with our distinguished panel of industry judges who bring to the table their extensive editorial, PR, marketing, and design expertise.”
Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Disney Hyperion, TarcherPerigee, Atria Books, Bear & Co./Inner Traditions, New American Library and Hachette Book Group are just some of the hundreds of national and international publishing houses that entered books in this year’s competition.
Already established as the Winner in the Humor category of the prestigious 11th Annual 2017 National Indie Excellence Awards, THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY is a satirical lexicon for coming to terms with modern culture (or lack thereof), politics (so-called), and life (such as it is).
In its five-star review of this knee-slapping tour de force, Readers’ Favorite had this high praise: “Irreverent in its honesty and take-no-prisoners approach, THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY: A SPIRITED GLOSSARY FOR THE LITTLE DEVIL IN YOU is an honest appraisal of words in terms of today’s sensibilities. Sol Luckman has picked up where writers like Mark Twain and Ambrose Bierce left off over a century ago, identifying new associations for words and phrases to match what they really represent today […] They say many a true word is spoken in jest, and perhaps Luckman’s humor is a well-timed wake-up call to be heeded while we still have time to ask important questions.”
Taking a page from Ambrose Bierce’s satirical masterpiece, THE DEVIL’S DICTIONARY, THE ANGEL’S DICTIONARY reinvigorates satire to prove that—though we might not be able to change the world—we can at least have a good laugh at it. Then again, maybe laughter can transform the world!
