Fresh Adventures Ahead

I’ve crawled up from the end-of-year doldrums and am working to get back on track in the week ahead. The new year brings with it some new and old challenges: the first being settling into a new day job and the second being (yet another) looming deadline on LOSING GRAVITY (sobs).

I start each morning ahead of day job with a dedicated co-writing time via Zoom with some writing friends, which has helped my productivity. I’m still dragging, but I have a stable routine now.

The new year is gene...

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

Tis the holiday season, when the days grow shorter and many of us are compelled to curl up under a heavy blanket and sleep until mid-January when the light returns.

I blame Darwin.

Through a bizarre and serendipitous series of events, I’ll be starting a new day job next week (yes, yes, I still have a day job – why do you think I also have a Patreon? Fiction writing is not lucrative and comes with no benefits ?), which I feel will be a better fit for me overall. This also led to a two-week ...

Gettin’ Spooky… With Juicy Dopamine Recs, Fresh Fiction, Reprints, Book Updates and More

I’ve spent this week in “aggressive self-care” mode. I took the week off the day job and spent the first three or four days of it just reading in the hammock and sleeping. I’m off booze through at least the end of the year, and limiting myself to two cups of coffee in the morning, which has really reined in my anxiety. I had two days of rolling panic attacks – convinced I was dying of one thing or another – and let me tell you: that level of anxiety, for that long, is fucking EXHAUSTING.

It w...

In Convo w/Cassandra Khaw, Fresh Fiction, Spooky Season

Tonight at 7pm I’m in conversation with spooky gore emperox Cassandra Khaw. We’ll be discussing their latest novel, The All-Consuming World. This one was a little brutal even for me, which tells you something. I blurbed it thusly:

“This is Khaw at their most raw and unrestrained. Prepare for a wild ride.”

Reserve Seat

I’ve also got some fresh fiction up! August’s short story is “Judged.” A snippet:

They shot the seven judges at half-past five in the evening against the wall of a ...

The Woods, New Story, New Light Brigade Patches! (oh my!)

August has arrived here Ohio, and with it – some warm, dry glorious weather. The birches have begun shedding their leaves. The ground hogs are foolishly invading the yard to eat the heads off my sunflowers (and losing their heads to the dogs), the hornets and I continue our chemical warfare, and the frogs are getting fat (mostly on hornets – bonus!).

I’ve recently returned from my first overnight trip among humans since January of 2020, when I went to ConFusion. A lifetime ago. Literally anot...
