Spooky season is upon us here in Ohio, with all that entails: the whisper of dry corn husks, the oozing piles of fat gourds, the bite of deliciously cool evenings, the fading of the tomatoes, the desiccation of the cucumbers. It is the season in which the world begins to nod its head toward a deep slumber, looking forward to dreams of what will be in the spring to come.
Fall and spring in Ohio are luscious, glorious things; perfect temperatures and blue-blue skies. The seasons don’t change ba...

Juggling Projects, That Fall Feelin’, Fresh Fiction

I have been enjoying some late summer garden cleanup. Only now, as the heat and slightly shorter days has slowed the rate of growth, can I start to catch up on the weeding and tending tasks that the humid heat of deep summer made nigh impossible.
Most joyously, I have been writing quite a bit, not just on the BOOK THA...

That Summer Feelin’
You got that summer feelin’? The early falling leaves of the birch trees are the first sign of high summer harvest at the homestead. They are the first to leaf out in March and the first to bow out in autumn. Tomatoes are bursting from the vines, the pumpkins are getting fat, and I have so many dragon egg cucumbers I don’t know what to do with them.
Such is the hobby garden life.
We cancelled the two trips we were planning in August, primarily due to increased COVID-19 risk, but also for m...

Jeopardy, the History of Cosplay and Trivia with Andrew Liptak, and Fresh Fiction
It’s been another bangin’ month over here at HurleyTown. Summer is in full swing, and despite it feeling like I live on the surface of Venus during the CLIMATE APOCALYPSE weeks, the garden is looking great and I’m enjoying the extra sunlight, which of course is about on its way out. So soaking it up where I can.
Here’s what’s been going on.
Turns out someone in the writers’ room at Jeopardy must be a fan of me and Tamsyn Muir (WHAT GREAT TASTE), as LIGHT BRIGADE has now joined Gideon as a ...
