Planned job cuts hit two-year high as government pares military

Southwest CEO: 717s will be phased out because of fuel costs (updated with video)
The 717, which has fewer seats than the 737, works well for short-haul flights, but the higher fuel prices go, the more customers get priced out of short-haul markets, he said.

Bass Pro fishing for taxpayer cash?
Cities who fund these programs often say that stores like Bass Pro aren't simply retail outlets, they're "tourist destinations," as if that justifies ladling taxpayer money on them. It's nothing more than PR spin to make government handouts seem more palpable.
