Aces and Eights
Last hand, and not a good one. The dealer had graced Ben withan eight of diamonds, two threes, ace of clubs and a two of spades.
He gazed at all his money piled in front of his opponent. Benhad to win it back or he would need the spade to dig his grave. Too muchwhiskey had expanded his ego into the belief he was good at poker.
His opponent had noticed Ben's distress or at least thesweat that rolled from his brow. The older man took a long drag off his cigar. It was one of the expensive...

Pintrest from a photojournalist's view
There are concerns about the legalities and copyright issuesof being pinned. My question, is it that different from sharing these links onother social media sites? The same type of sharing information and interests isinvolved. Only Pintrest simplifies it by using photographs to catch the eye notjust a snappy title.
Pintrest is the latest 'in place' on the web, it is awebsite which totes itself as an electronic pin board. A user creates boards onwhich they show off their interests in...

Learning Your Story
I have a book that has driven me crazy for a while now. Irealize it's just like my new skill, I recently learned to crochet.
Okay one is made of fuzzy yarn and the other is made up ofcharacters and an evolving plot. But they start out the same way, as a thoughtor idea. The loop of yarn becomes a chain, words become sentences, then severalrows or a paragraph. Wha'la you've got a hat... er story or both.
Learning a new craft like crochet doesn't mean your firstproject is going to be perfect or ...

Read an E-Book Week 2012
March 4th thru 10th we are celebratingthe great invention of E-Books. The publishing world shook a bit at the thoughtof paperless books but the idea has caught on and caught fire to theimaginations of writers and readers everywhere.
The book began to evolve into its electronic form in 1971 whena copy of the Declaration of Independence was stored on a Xerox Sigma Vmainframe computer by Michael Hart.

Happy Leap Day 2012!
If there were ever a day to do something special or epic it would be today. Leap Day only comes around once every four years so go big, go crazy.
We can thank the Romans for designating February 29th as leap day. An extra day to keep the seasons in tune. The Gregorian calendar came up with a better formula in the 16th century. That same division of four is what we still use today.
For the ladies Leap Day is a very special one. If you've got a fella who needs to put a ring on it, put one on...

Dark Attraction
[image error]
You pull up to the pump at the gas station, across from youis a guy (or gal for the gents) filling up his Harley. His heavy boots echo onthe concrete as he shifts his feet, there's a darkness to him, a look in hiseyes that tells you he's probably seen the back seat of a few squad cars.
Yet you almost overfill your car as a fantasy plays out inyour head. Your mind is saying, "he's bad news, babe." The rest of you issaying, "ohhh yes, he is."
Bad boys (girls), we have this wild attraction to...

Seance is one of my favorite movies. Co-ed Lauren is hauntedby a little girl who once lived in the building before they became part of thecollege dorms. During Thanksgiving weekend the dorms are abandoned but forLauren, her four friends and the ghost girl. That is until the students hold an impromptu séance in anattempt to communicate. The little girl Cara was already here on our plane butJames Spence the building's maintenance man wasn't. The pot induced ceremonyunleashed Spence who was...
