The beautiful, sticky, pearl-necklace-like strands that the glowworms create in order to snag flying insects. We asked our guide what happens when the adult glowworms, which are flies, fly around. He said they’re pretty good about avoiding the strands, they’ll sometimes get caught, too, and, well, the glowworm larvae don’t distinguish much between what they eat. Tiny cannibalistic civilization!

Taken in the glowworm caves after a few tries. Yes I cried, literally, over how overwhelmingly beautiful this was. The “glowworm” is actually the larvae of a fly that uses bioluminescence to trick other insects into thinking they are flying up toward the night sky. What blows my mind is that of course these glowworms have never even *seen* the night sky before, let alone know that if they work together with the other glowworms, they can simulate the night sky. Except somehow, deep in their genes, they DO know. And somehow, the universe’s grand design of stars is also mirrored inside this dark cave in New Zealand, by a network of tiny creatures. And isn’t the world amazing, in every single way? Aren’t we lucky to share this world? ❤️❤️❤️ #newzealand #waitomocaves

Adelina and Violetta in their tamouran wear (with Adelina in disguise, having both eyes). I really loved the short story about the goddess of death in the first chapter, so the second colour scheme is inspired by that, you could also argue these separate colour schemes reflect each girls characters.
