Sundays, Traditions & A Little Bit of Squid Ink Dim Sum

There has always been something special about Sundays. It has that certain Je nes c'est quoi— you love it and you dread it all at once. You dread it because it signifies the end of the week; the weekend is wrapping up and Sunday is the mere harbinger of a Monday morning start of the usually monotonous work week.  It's limbo, a weekly purgatory that leaves you wavering, juxtaposed between business and casual. On the other hand, you love it because, well, it's the end of your week— a day to...

Cooking Candidly #2: Kickin' Bruschetta- A Recipe That'll Make Them Say Oooooh!

Welcome to Cooking Candidly post número dos!

Need a delicious appetizer in pinch?  Have guests coming over in less than an hour and want to impress them without those long hours of slaving in the kitchen (but make them think that you did?)  Of course you do! Over the last few years I have come to fall in deep "foodie love" with a recipe I used for the first time a few years back, as a Thanksgiving Day starter. With a little modification here and a twist there, over the years I've altered...

Introspection

Cooking Candidly #1: Intro & Slow Roasted Pork

Welcome to the first edition of Cooking Candidly!   My family loves to cook.  Well, let me be more specific, my immediately family and extended family on my mother's side love to... bake. I cook. I am, and have always been, more of a savory person (barring chocolate, of course)-- a die hard sea salt addict.  Which, is probably a very good thing.  With the exception of certain cycles throughout the year, special occasions, or just random creative surges-- God knows, it's best for my hips and t...
