Trailer Watch: Full Captain America trailer
We've seen so far, but nothing this in-depth — and other than the über-rockin' music (which probably won't be in the largely WW2-era movie) — I think it's a doozy.
Joe Johnston's Captain America opens July 22, 2011.

Trailer Watch: The Muppets full trailer
After a handful of parody trailers (including a Green Lantern-inspired one from a couple of days ago that I didn't post here), we finally have a full trailer for the The Muppets. (The first one, anyway.)
Jason Segel (who co-wrote the script) really seems to get the Muppets' brand of corny humor, and Amy Adams in hyperactive mode is practically a living Muppet herself; I don't think you could ask for a better duo to help bring them back to the big screen this Thanksgiving.

Nolan and Fincher talk about Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life
This short (2:25) featurette on Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life sees two of the most popular directors today — Christopher Nolan and David Fincher — discussing Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, Badlands) and, mostly indirectly, the director's new film. Malick can be a bit too ponderous for some filmgoers, but I always find it interesting to see filmmakers discuss other filmmakers' work.
The featurette also displays a bit of footage we haven't seen in trailers yet, so it's worth seeing in that respect, too.

Trailer Watch: Moneyball
Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill star in Capote director Bennett Miller's somewhat fictionalized, big-screen adaptation of Michael Lewis's book, Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game. Brad Pitt is a solid enough actor when he's given a good script to work from, and here, the words coming from his mouth are provided by Steve Zaillian (Searching for Bobby Fischer, David Fincher's upcoming Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), with a rewrite (or two or three) from Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, West Wing) — so, it could be good.
Moneyball opens on September 23.

Trailer Watch: Attack the Block red band trailer
The hit UK sci-fi comedy Attack the Block has had a few preview screenings around the States, but it's finally hitting theaters for realsies on July 29th (in limited release, anyway).
Writer-director Joe Cornish's film stars a bunch of kids I've never heard of and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) — and Basement Jaxx provides the sure-to-be-great score. Attack the Block has been getting stellar reviews from the festival circuit (and the UK, where it's been out for a few weeks already), so you'll want to keep this one on your radar.

Trailer Watch: Our Idiot Brother
A trailer for Jesse Peretz's Our Idiot Brother has hit the interwebs. Paul Rudd stars the dumbass brother of Emily Mortimer, Elizabeth Banks, and Zooey Deschanel. Add Steve Coogan and Rashida Jones into the mix, and you've got a cast that pretty much guarantees I'll watch your movie sooner or later.
While the trailer doesn't feel like anything too special, I did get one good laugh out of this, as well as a handful of well-earned smiles, maybe this will turn out to be something more than just another gentle, cute, forgettable indie comedy. Brother is out in theaters on August 26th (probably in limited release).
Read the full synopsis, after the jump:
Every family has one: the sibling who is always just a little bit behind the curve when it comes to getting his life together. For sisters Liz (Emily Mortimer), Miranda (Elizabeth Banks) and Natalie (Zooey Deschanel), that person is their perennially upbeat brother Ned (Paul Rudd), an erstwhile organic farmer whose willingness to rely on the honesty of mankind is a less-than-optimum strategy for a tidy, trouble-free existence. Ned may be utterly lacking in common sense, but he is their brother and so, after his girlfriend dumps him and boots him off the farm, his sisters once again come to his rescue. As Liz, Emily and Natalie each take a turn at housing Ned, their brother's unfailing commitment to honesty creates more than a few messes in their comfortable routines. But as each of their lives begins to unravel, Ned's family comes to realize that maybe, in believing and trusting the people around him, Ned isn't such an idiot after all.

Trailer Watch: Brendan Gleeson in The Guard
John Michael McDonagh has been quiet since 2003′s Ned Kelly, but he's back now, with The Guard, starring Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle, Liam Cunningham and Mark Strong.
Gleeson starred alongside Colin Farrell in the brilliant 2008 black comedy In Bruges (written and directed by Martin McDonagh, John Michael's brother), and he's in fine form here, too, as "an unorthodox Irish policeman with a confrontational personality [who is] teamed up with an uptight FBI agent (Cheadle) to investigate an international drug-smuggling ring."
There's a similarly, but slightly more upbeat tone to In Bruges, which is fine by me. The Guard features a score by the indie rock (or alt country, if you insist) band Calexico and premiered at Sundance back in January, so you can find some of the film's enthusiastic early reviews online if you want to. It's out next month in the UK. There is no US release set.

Trailer Watch: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
This movie continues to look better than it has any right to be. Directed by Rupert Wyatt, and starring James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo and Andy Serkis as Caesar, Rise of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on August 5. (via Coming Soon)
Were any of your guys Planet of the Apes fans as kids, like I was? (Am, I suppose.) What do you think?
