A couple of days ago @ardebimus asked me the following question for her thesis:
Why is it that Rachel Alexander’s Persephone inspires you so? What makes THAT Persephone, rather than the general mythic Persephone floating about, so special? Why did you design Sixth Equinox as a fanwork of Receiver of Many instead of just using the ancient mythic cannon?
That was more than one question, but they all sort of lead on the same thread of thought. And, of course, if I could have permission to quote you in my essay, that would be great! She has kindly given me permission to reproduce my answer here. I haven’t really elaborated on why I love the book in words, so if you are willing to slog through a wall of text, keep reading!

More sexy times in Receiver of Many.
Paying a small tribute to Bernini’s Rape of Prosperina, but something a little more consensual between Aidoneus and Persephone this time :) Wanted to do something more graphical as well instead of rendering everything.
The author still has a giveaway going on now for the second part of RoM, Destroyer of Light, so go enter!

Destroyer of Light
To anyone who loves the myth of Hades and Persephone, I shall direct you to Receiver of Many and Destroyer of Light, by Rachel Alexander.
Destroyer of Light is the second book in a duology that retells the tale of Persephone’s descent into the Underworld. As much as this is a beautiful love story, this is also the story of a girl who becomes a woman, equal in might to her feared husband. This is a book of rich storytelling, one that illustrates the world of ancient Greece with vibrant myth and details. The characters are nuanced and brilliant. Destroyer of Light is more than a mere retelling of a well-known tale; Rachel Alexander’s novel is an exploration of a timeless story that makes readers fall in love with the central characters and lush world-building.
There’s not much else I can say about this book, only that I absolutely adore it.
It’s available for pre-order (comes out March 20th!) on Amazon right here. The first book, Receiver of Many, is also available.
(Note: if you buy a hard copy, the cover feels really nice.)
Destroyer of Light
Rightio kids, let me tell you about Destroyer of Light- the second book of a certain Greek mythology series by a certain author. Rachel Alexander’s sequel to the stunning Receiver of Many is gracing this earth in mortal form and I can only thank the gods that it is almost upon us. I’ve been following the progression of this story for about 2-3 years and boy, Christmas has come early for me. The story of Hades and Persephone progresses and the plot thickens, so to speak, as their relationship blossoms (almost literally) and Demeter in her grief freaking freezes everything, not to mention a pesky king Sisyphus runs amok wrecking everyone’s bloody good time (everyone except Demeter). Seems to be that the Fates have got a little joke up their sleeve and that the punchline is gonna be epic (suck on that Zeus). It’s gonna be a pretty swell read and I can only hope you guys are as excited as I am. So, if you’re a little bored and looking for a good read with a romance that isn’t saccharine sweet, well do I have news for you: pick up Receiver of Many right now, read it and then pick up Destroyer of Light. You can thank me later. Or you can write a review on its greatness.
