Well, today is St. Patrick's Day, and I never can decide whether or not to celebrate it. For starters, I am not Irish, by a long shot, but having grown up in the northeastern part of the US, which does have large Irish populations, and where it was always a big holiday, I took part in the festivities so, out of habit, I feel compelled to continue the tradition.
As I grew up, however, I learned what the holiday was about, and now I cannot say that I should celebrate the anniversary of a non-Irish missionary converting the local pagans to Christianity, the splintering of which is the basis for many of their modern troubles, but as my many Irish friends and yes, even some family members, are so fond of celebrating it, I donned my Guinness t-shirt today and shall drink a shot of Jameson's Irish Whiskey tonight in their honor as well as to the honor of the many Irish and ethnic Irish authors and artists who have enriched my life with their creations.
So here's to you Charles Maturin, Oscar Wilde, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, Bram Stoker, Harry Clarke, William Butler Yeats, Lord Dunsany, et al. Sláinte!

Rosaire gets honorable mention in a new review!
Rosaire, Master of Wolves got honorable mention in a recent review of A Walk in a Darker Wood! I believe this is the first official review of one of my works. In it Ms. Erica Ruppert says “Rosaire, Master of Wolves” by Manuel Arenas is a gloriously overwritten tale of witchcraft and revenge, and a complete joy to read.

Spectral Realms #14 coming soon!
Hippocampus Press has announced the imminent release of Spectral Realms #14 which features my poems H.P.L. R.I.P. and Greetings from Krampus! The issue features another great cover designed by Dan Sauer, based on the painting Puck, by Henry Fuseli. Here is the blurb from Hippocampus Press, which mentions me twice!
The fourteenth issue of Hippocampus Press’s acclaimed journal of weird poetry features the work of such leading poets as Ann K. Schwader, Christina Sng, K. A. Opperman, Adam Bolivar, Frank Coffman, Geoffrey Reiter, and Leigh Blackmore. Manuel Arenas, Charles Lovecraft, and Darrell Schweitzer contribute poems about or inspired by H. P. Lovecraft; Thomas Goff and Scott J. Couturier have written poems inspired by Clark Ashton Smith, while Steven Withrow addresses his poem to M. R. James.
Ngo Binh Anh Khoa, in “The Widow,” has written a long and chilling poem on the spider. Maxwell I. Gold, Wade German, Manuel Arenas have written evocative prose poems. Carl E. Reed takes several monsters of history and folklore as the basis of his weird poetry.
Among the classic reprints are poems by John Clare and Walter de la Mare. S. T. Joshi has written a review of the recent poetic work of K. A. Opperman, Thomas Tyrrell, and Farah Rose Smith, while Donald Sidney-Fryer adds an expansive review of the poetry of Steven Withrow, Frank Coffman, and Oliver Sheppard.

Manurog accepted for Spectral Realms #15!
I just received an email from editor S.T. Joshi accepting my poem Manurog for Spectral Realms #15. The poem, which Joshi called a "charmingly morbid little item", is about a hirsute hobgoblin with abominable grooming tendencies. There it will join Black Hymeneal and Witch's Tit, all of which were written between the late 90s and early 2000s but have recently been reworked for this publication. Oddly enough, both Black Hymeneal and Manurog were rejected by Weird Tales back in the early oughts, so their joint inclusion in this issue is something of a vindication for me.

Salutations!
Greetings! My name is Manuel Arenas, and I am a writer of both poetry and prose in the Gothic Horror tradition. I am a regular contributor to Spectral Realms and Penumbra (respectively) from Hippocampus Press. I have also also contributed to several genre anthologies.
A few of the books attributed to me on Goodreads are actually by other people, but I cannot figure out yet how to remove them. If you're curious, you may ask me about it, although if it's not a genre title, it's probably not by me.
At the moment, my most recent publication is my tribute to the Averoigne stories of author/poet Clark Ashton Smith, Rosaire, Master of Wolves, in the Folk-Horror anthology A Walk in a Darker Wood from Oxygen Man Books.
