Inauguration of Avanti Ashram, A Vedic Gurukul
On auspicious day of Vasanta Pancami, January 28 2012, an inauguration ceremony of Avanti Ashram was held in gracious presence of His Holiness Bhakti Vikasa Maharaj. Also present were His Grace Basu Ghosh Prabhu, the temple president of ISKCON Baroda, His Grace Saccidananda Prabhu, the temple president of ISKCON Vallabh Vidhyanagar, His Grace Savyasachi Prabhu along with about more than 500 devotees from all over Gujarat.
Avanti Ashram is a Vedic styled gurukul, located in the outskirt of Baroda city, for devotee childern where they will be mainly taught Srila Prabhupada's books along with other Vedic literatures, that means no more karmi syllabus and Darwinian atheism as per Srila Prabhupada's desire. The initiative is taken up by few grhastha couples from Baroda who have given up their well-paid jobs and have started living on a land. Electricity is not used at the gurukul, and all cooking is done by using firewood. The idea is to keep life simple so to save time for spiritual cultivation as per Srila Prabhupada's desire.

The root of all our problems
The whole material world is working on the basis of “I” and “mine.” This is
the root of attraction to the material world. If one is attracted to this
root of illusory conceptions — “I” and “mine” – he will have to remain
within this material world.
(SB 4.11.30p)
The karmi thinks of this world as “mine,” and the jnani thinks “I am”
everything.”
(SB 2.9.2p)

SB 9.19.16, text
For those who are too attached to material enjoyment, sense gratification is
very difficult to give up. Even when one is an invalid because of old age,
one cannot give up such desires for sense gratification. Therefore, one who
actually desires happiness must give up such unsatisfied desires, which are
the cause of all tribulations.

Relevance of Srila Prabhupada’s Letters
Question:
When reading Srila Prabhupada’s instructions through letters, how should one tell to himself that the instructions hold good for him too (with abject humility I say here that I am not questioning Srila Prabhupada, his instructions are very much relevant to the jivas, to the every atom in the universe) and not just to the said person in question. Sometimes if someone says, ‘oh, that was between Srila Prabhupada and the said person’ how should we reply that 'no, that also holds good for us too.’ Is there a quote from Srila Prabhupada to answer this question? I heard Srila Prabhupada talked about an analogy of sun in this context.

Our concern
We are not concerned with the Hindu-Muslim; we are concerned with Krsna.

Only food offered to Krsna
When there is an epidemic disease, an antiseptic vaccine protects a person
from the attack of such an epidemic. Similarly, food offered to Lord Visnu
and then taken by us makes us sufficiently resistant to material affection,
and one who is accustomed to this practice is called a devotee of the Lord.
Therefore, a person in Krsna consciousness, who eats only food offered to
Krsna, can counteract all reactions of past material infections, which are
impediments to the progress of self-realization. On the other hand, one who
does not do so continues to increase the volume of sinful action, and this
prepares the next body to resemble hogs and dogs, to suffer the resultant
reactions of all sins. The material world is full of contaminations, and one
who is immunized by accepting prasadam of the Lord (food offered to Visnu)
is saved from the attack, whereas one who does not do so becomes subjected
to contamination.

Brahmana’s concern and dog’s concern
Those who give education in exchange for money—they are not brahmanas. For
instance, we are lecturing, educating people. We don’t say, “Give us a
salary.” We simply ask them, “Please come.” That is why we are cooking food
and holding so many free festivals. “We’ll give you food. We’ll give you a
comfortable seat. Please come and hear about self-realization and God
consciousness.” We are not asking money—”First of all pay the fee; then you
can come and learn Bhagavad-gita.” We never say that. But these so-called
teachers who first of all bargain for a salary—”What salary will you give
me?”—that is a dog’s concern. That is not a brahmana’s concern. A brahmana
will never ask about a salary. A brahmana is eager to see that people are
educated. “Take free education and be educated; be a human being”—this is a
brahmana’s concern.
