Daffodils And William Wordsworth

One of the most influential people in my life is my high school journalism teacher, Beverle Kerns.

She encouraged me to write, and made me believe that I could do it. Bev sent me this poem today. I thought it was lovely and well needed. To look at small beauties – like daffodils – even in times of worry and stress, and rejoice in them.

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils

Beside the lake, beneath the trees

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay,

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves besides them danced;

but they Out-did the sparkling waves in glee;

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed—and gazed—but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude,

And then my heart with laughter fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

Rock Walking

I’ve been taking a lot of walks and I’ve seen these decorated rocks around my neighborhood.

They always make me smile.

It’s interesting that something this simple can bring joy to an otherwise stressful time. I don’t know who is making them, but thank you!

The other day I finally pulled on gloves and headed to Walmart.

As I was scrambling around, trying not to get too close to anyone, buying milk and eggs and, okay, chocolate (for me) and ice cream (for Innocent Husband) for nutritional reasons, I could not help but think about all the employees there.

Cashiers at Walmart are some of the lowest paid employees in this country.

And yet.

There they were. Smiling. Ready to help. They are serving everyone – those people who are healthy, those people who have had Corona Virus, and those that have it now but must take care of themselves and their kids so are up there searching for toilet paper like everyone else.

The cashiers at our grocery stores/pharmacies are exposed to hundreds of people a day. We all have to be able to get food and medicine during this time, and by working there, they’re allowing us to function as a country. Without them, we’ll utterly break down.

It’s brave to even work there right now, it really is.

Thanks to everyone, once again, on the front lines.

I hope you’re all AT HOME and healthy and finding projects to do, books to read, art to start, closets to clean…

We Do Not Have Crocodiles In Oregon

Someone has a very funny sense of humor.

There are no crocodiles in man made ponds complete with pretty fountains here in Oregon.

But it does make you look twice…and I think we all need the laugh right now.

Christmas Lights In March

Innocent Husband put the Christmas lights back up in the backyard.

It’s something pretty to look at. I think I might add a few to the front….a few sparkles amidst the worry.

It’s a little thing, but I think we all need these little things right now.

Stay home, everyone. Stay home. We’ll get through this.

Stress Cleaning

How’s everyone doing?

I am stress-cleaning closets and rooms and packing stuff up to throw out and give away.

When I get worried, I have to organize and get rid of stuff. I know, very odd, it is what it is.

I’ve also recently attacked my garden because all the mess out there was bugging me, too, and I needed to get it in order.

Probably telling you too much about how my odd mind works.

Insomnia And All About Evie

Well, my insomnia seems to be getting the better of me lately and I need to listen to books to get to sleep. If you need to listen to books to sleep, too, ALL ABOUT EVIE, is now out in Audio.

ALL ABOUT EVIE is about Evie Lindsay who owns a bookstore in the San Juan Islands. She lives near her eccentric mother and two aunts who wear floppy, sequined, flowered hats and say and do outrageous things. Evie has struggled with premonitions her whole life…and a DNA test is about to turn that life upside down.

There’s a little romance in this story, too. I think we all need some romance about now.
