Vital

Willow’s journey continues in VITAL, the fourth book in the INSIGHT series. Combating a crumbling family life, a circle of suddenly inconsiderate friends who seem determined to anger her, and a plethora of emotional trials too numerous to withstand, Willow feels overwhelmed. She has pushed herself beyond her own limits and in so doing has closed her mind. Dreams are no longer coming to her.
As she deals with this tumultuous environment, Willow also notices a change in her beloved. Once her source of support and compassion, Landen is suddenly filled with a newfound rage. Fierce and possessive, he forces Willow to wonder whether the bliss of their love has faded away, or if something darker is affecting Landen’s soul. Always watchful of Willow, Drake sees this change and the growing rift between the pair. Both he and Willow remember all too well what happened during Venus’s passing; will Drake take advantage of Landen’s compromised emotions?
Amidst all this turmoil, Willow finds herself obsessed with finding her: the elusive twin. The girl who looks exactly like Willow, and who must be Drake’s soul mate. Willow knows in her heart that to find this girl will remove a tremendous weight from her shoulders, clearing her mind and heart. But a mysterious warning about the chart of her past forces her to consider this course carefully.
And she must consider it soon. Even now, Mars approaches and Willow’s most important battle is at hand. Will she finally break beneath the torment the universe has set upon her, or will she stand beside her friends and loved ones as Mars unleashes its wrath

LANDENEvery dimension holds a reflection of mankind. Some are dark, some are blindingly bright, and between those points there’re several others with varying stages of differences. The irony is that, though they are all different, each prove that the human race, when united, are invincible, and when divided.....they are destruction.
Within this realm of worlds there is one dimension that breeds creativity, insightful thinking, a perfect combination of the cultures that stretch across the universe. It is the core of balance, and understanding.....it is the dimension where valiant travelers are born.
Undeniably travelers are vital to this dimensions survival, yet, they are in the minority, less than one and 200 children are chosen by this lifestyle, that is unless you are in the Chambers or Haywood families. In those families everyone is chosen by the universe to travel to worlds beyond their own....Landen Chambers is the youngest in that bloodline, and some might say the most....reckless.
Every child is told fairytales and legends.....everyone but Landen, his parents could not mask the diversity and, sometimes harshness of the universe from their son....they couldn’t because he had the insight to perceive truth.....the truth was a curse, not a blessing to Landen as he grew up.
With a youthful mind and body it’s easy to find fault with the world established around you, to see foolishness in the set guidelines and points of view, an eagerness to find change is on fire in your soul.By the time he was a young teen Landen had traveled to each dimension countless times, he’d battled storms of energy that scared his body, he’d saved his brothers life, his fathers more than once by being able to see passages that escaped them just in time to take cover from a raging wave of energy.He was constantly thirsty - thirsty to see more, explore more. That was seen as healthy, but what was not healthy was the boldness and sometimes unruliness he unleashed in the dimensions he visited. A low profile was what all travelers were to maintain when they left home, they were to observe, learn, but never interfere.
Easier said than done if you could not only perceive truth but see intent. Often, Landen would come across someone who was crossing a line, whether it be a bold lie that was laced with injustices or, an intent that was deadly. In his mind it was his place to help, to save, and he didn’t care how fierce he had to be, he would ensure that the truth was told, that the intent was changed.
This recklessness caused heartbreaking arguments between his father, Ashten, and him, for almost six months Landen didn’t even speak to his father. Ashten had banned him from two dimensions, two that Landen almost felt called to, and when asked why, his father remained silent.....that silence ignited the rebellious side of Landen. He would convince his older brother or cousin to take him to those forbidden dimensions and when he got there he would disappear, when they did find him a boys fight would break out, because inevitably Landen was breaking every rule, stepping outside the reclusiveness a traveler must maintain. It would take both Marc and Brady, but they would drag him from where he was, then to the highest peak of a Mountain, a deserted beach, waterfall, glacier - anywhere that held silence - a place where the weight of the universe could not be sensed by the ever growing powerful Landen.
Once Landen was calm, either Brady or Marc would leave to find their grandfather, August. They would tell him what Landen had done, what change he was trying to make in the place they were traveling, within hours, August would arrive with no less than ten books in his bag, sit down by his youngest grandson and turn to a passage. He never commanded him to read, he would just sit quietly by Landen’s side and stare into the nothing until Landen’s stubbornness grew weary, and he began to read.
Once all the marked passages were read, the lore and culture was learned, August would allow Landen to debate his point of view....before long, even August found it difficult to debate Landen’s mind, there was simply to much passion in his argument, it was so vibrant that it was addictive.
“Tell me,” August would sigh. “Why these two dimensions? Why can you not leave them be, and explore the others, learn more, develop your insights......what is causing you to rebel so dangerously against your fathers wishes?”
Landen’s gaze would lose it’s focus as his mind jolted him away to his dreams, the bad ones, the ones were she was terrified....fragile. “No one deserves to be scared - defenseless.”
“Agreed......but, you did not answer my question, there are many others that share similar issues.Landen’s skin turned crimson with anger. “Maybe so, but she’s not in those, she’s in one of these two, and for all I know if I stop one wrong it will cause a chain reaction - it will help her before I find her - before I destroy whoever is terrorizing her.
August’s eyes drifted to the open Mountain valley before them. “Landen, you are barely seventeen, are you telling me you have seen your beacon three years before your time.”
“No.” his tone was laced in anger. “I just know.”
“And I know that that this fearless boldness will serve you well in your life, but I want you to rethink your argument. What if you cross the wrong line....what if your brother or Marc doesn’t find you in time.....if something happens to you before or even after you find her - you will be the one who hurts her the most.”
“Clever. Reverse psychology.” Landen said under his breath sure that he’d heard his father say something similar, sure that August was not on his side at the moment.
“Not at all. I’m trying to tell you that right now, with the way you are acting you will be more dangerous than her dreams.....I think you have an illusion that she is safe in your dreams, you need to see her as real. You need to ask yourself how you would act if she were here right now. Would you cause the fights you do with her at your side? She will be at your side, you realize that right? She’s not going to stay safely at home while you travel the universe.”
A wave of understanding consumed Landen, noticing that expression August went on.
“Don’t change who you are Landen, that passion to undo all that is not in balance is there for a reason.....you have three years, practice patience, caution now.....so that when you need to exercise those traits with her, they will not be foreign to you.”
“I shouldn’t have to change who I am to love her.”
“No,” August said smiling slightly. “My challenge to you is to act as if she is at your side now....for all you know that act may bring her to you long before the age of twenty.”If there was anyone who enjoyed being challenged it was Landen. He was almost sure that his grandfather was telling him that if he learned patience, caution that he would not only be allowed in those forbidden dimensions again....but that he would find her sooner.
From that point on everyone saw a change in Landen, he still dared to be outspoken when he traveled, but when he saw a wrong, he would think to himself, if she were here, would I act the same, if the answer was no, he knew it wasn’t safe, and would find a way that was......Landen knew that August was right, before that fateful conversation Landen had perceived her as safe and sound in his mind, even as his own guardian angel, now, in order to find her, he had to see her as real, imagine her at his side.....and trust that the universe would protect her until he saw his beacon....until the path to her was illuminated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not the Landen you know? That is not surprising. Insight is told through Willow’s point of view, the first three books blushed with new love. When we first fall in love, we tend to see only the good traits of the ones we love, because we see them, make remarks about them, the ones we love tend to focus on them, too.If you think back, the tension between Landen and his father is still present. Brady and Marc both know when and how to push Landen in a different direction, and when not to.Very soon, that rebel in Landen will break out, he will not be able to always be patient....there will be times when pushing is better than observing. I have no doubt we will all see this side of him within the pages of Vital, no fears, the boy Willow sees is still dominate, no doubt there, but a soul can only withstand so much before they reach a breaking point....before they have to let out everything they have pushed down - that release, in the long run, will be healthy.
Cover Reveal Day!!!
My very next release now has a face!!!
(Date TBA in July 2012)
Forgetting who you are is hard, but not as hard as remembering. Remembering that you have no idea how to face your demons, how to save the lost.Charlie is at a sacred threshold.The ‘glass box’, as she calls it, is slowly falling. Her childhood has ended. The moment she has yearned for, the moment where she can go and do anything, anything at all without seeking permission is now. She’d dreamed of this time, all of her friends had, but now that it’s here, she doesn't know which way to run, or if she should even run at all.Charlie knew that running would be a goodbye forever, and she didn’t want that, she wanted to freeze the time she was in, to stay in the calm before the storm, the illusion that she could out wit the ones who seek her, hold the one she loves, and play the music that gives her passion. She’ll soon discover no one can hide from their fate, that time does not stop in place, and that whether she chooses to perceive it or not, the darkness has come.What Charlie feared most, losing him, is a threat now more than ever. A realm, a dark and twisted dream world has called him, and now she must fight to save him, and others like him. Standing in her way is a soul from another life, a boy that promises that he will destroy her world, to save her life. With this threat in hand, with the dark path that her friends are on, Charlie must fight to find a way to leave, to trust that beyond her dimension there are souls that can help her, help all of them. The only question is, will she find them before it's to late, and if she can't, how is she going to use her gift, the gifts they all share to save them.
SO? What do you think? Are you as excited as I am?!!
SEE's Tour Kick OFF
I want to start off with a quick apology. I began this blog in the midst of preparing for SEE’s release and needless to say that project has taken more time than I imagined, but now two days before this launch I see plenty of time on the horizon for blogging!I also want to send out a ‘thank you’ to all of the fantastic readers that have been emailing and posting questions about Insight 4’s release date. Seeing your words truly brightens my day!I realize that releasing a new series while still writing my original series may raise a few questions so, I thought today I would explain, or at least try, how SEE came to be, and simultaneously reassure you that the Insight series has a very long future, if anything the characters of SEE have expanded the story of the Insight series - taking the story line into deeper, broader directions, to places that I have even yet to grasp completely.When I began writing Insight, it was like falling in love, the skies were bluer, the air was clearer, the radio seemed to play every song that could possibly remind me of my new passion. The first draft of Insight came to life inside of a few short months, in that same year both Embody and Image were also written. Around the time Image was competed I began my venture into publishing options, then actual publishing, needless to say my time to daydream or write had been temporarily sieged by the technical side of this business. Once everything was settled and Insight was off to meet the world I began to write Insight 4, it was a slow process at first because I was keeping a close eye on big sister, Insight, making sure I was marketing her to the best of my limited ability if you will. After 5 weeks of writing and only reaching the half way point in Insight 4’s manuscript I decided to take a deep breath and read the entire series to the point where I had written Insight 4. It was a fantastic experience for me, because sometimes as I writer I look so far ahead in the story that I forget the little clues (easter eggs) I left for myself in past novels. Long story short this adventure sent my imagination running wild, I was in love again! The stress of publishing had been washed away by the powerful flow of my muse. On the horizon I could clearly see new characters coming into the Insight series. I could feel their depth, passion, compassion....I could see so many answered questions with their arrival, along with new beginnings.The question was, who were they, and where have they been in their lives while Willow had faced her demons, in some cases quite literally. After a couple days of daydreaming I began to hash out a few notes, three weeks later, I was looking at 100,000 word novel. You see, though I saw several new characters, I felt there was a lead to these fresh faces, and I quickly discovered this new lead was Charlie Myers...I wanted to know her story, why her fate would collide with Willow’s, how wide the net I’d cast had reached if you will.Charlie was eager to take control of my muse, not long after I finished the first draft of SEE, I began and finished Witness, the second novel in Charlie’s story. At that point I finished Insight 4 within a matter of days. Charlie had not only opened my eyes, but helped me open Willow’s, she had set a course that would reveal the core of the evil that had entangled both Charlie and Willow’s fates.The point where these two stories collide is in SEE 3 and INSIGHT 5, but the quest to find Willow comes long before that point for Charlie, and in Insight 4 Willow is told that the scroll is predicting twins, twins that can see everything that had brought you to this point in your existence, not life. Those of you who have come to know Willow can only imagine how eager Willow was to explore this idea, before Willow had a chance to change her course the Universe put her in a position that thrust Charlie, and all those with her into the world of Esterious, as well as the lair that cold darkness is bred.I’m honored to tell both Willow Haywood and Charlie Myers stories, and eager for all of you to come to know Charlie as well as you do Willow.With the help of some fantastic bloggers I’m setting the stage for Charlie. SEE is now on tour and I have some great prizes to give away! There will be a drawing on each stop for an ebook of SEE along with some fun swag, guitar picks and book marks.
The story behind the characters of Insight ~ Today is Dane's day!
On my last blog tour I had a fantastic blogger: Kristin Aragon from Better Read Than Dead pointed out in her review how many characters I had. In her review of Insight she stated that at times she wished she had a flow chart to keep up with everyone – yet at the same time she felt connected to each of them. Before her last review of Image she created the flow chart she talked about, and it took my breath away. Simply because even as the author of this series I've never sat down and looked at each of the characters in my fictional world. They all came to life on their own without any foresight. In a way it was like being introduced to you boyfriend's family, or even your best friends.
Each of my characters are like family to me, and you know what they say – you can't choose your family! Some I can't get enough of – others drive me mad. There are even a few that I don't understand or really know why they came to life( at least not yet), and just like my family I can't make them do anything! I have tried – every time I plot their future they override me with a new direction that I never anticipated. So, like with my family I have chosen to love them – for all of their positive qualities – and, well, their negative ones, too.
To get to my point I thought it would be really fun to post about each of the characters in the Insight series, and even introduce you to the ones that will be debuting this year in my new series 'See'
I'd plan to blog about them in the order each character was created, but as I stated above – I have no control over them.
For those of you who have read Image I'm sure you raising your eyebrows about Dane wondering what he's up to, no worries I will never spoil anything for you, but I thought maybe you would want an 'insight' into who he was before the fate of Willow Haywood called him.
I look forward to your comments, if there is another character you want to hear about next tell me!
Dane….You know that feeling you get when you look into someone's eyes – the eyes of the 'one'. How your heart flutters, you hold your breath without knowing it – you find yourself curious to know everything about that person…you find yourself daydreaming about a distant future you may have with this person that has come into your life….that feeling never came when Dane looked into Willow's eyes. Perhaps it was because they were children when they first met, or maybe because his heart was already spoken for – just as hers was.Dane is one of Willow's best friends. He is a year older than her but they have always been close. That bond was created the first time – at age six – when Dane unwittingly followed Willow to another realm when she helped an image.
It was simple game of hide and seek – one that all kids play. When he found Willow behind a tree she didn't run or smile – she was staring just to her left. The five year old little Willow stood from her crouched position holding a stare with thin air. Dane reached for her arm just as she passed him and in that moment – the summer day turned frigid. The world around him had changed and before them there was an old woman crying. Willow reached for her face – the woman never looked up at them – but Dane, only a small boy was still terrified. His heart hammered in his chest as his fast breaths leaked out a fog around him. Willow never said a word but the woman's crying stopped – she even smiled slightly. As soon as Willow let go of her Dane felt a force push him back – he fell to the ground and when he opened his eyes he saw the sun, felt the warmth of it. He heard the birds – the radio that was playing on the porch – they were back.
He sat up slowly to find his young friend smiling slightly at him….he went to speak – to ask how – what – why but before he could utter a word she touched his shoulder and said "tag – your it" then ran to hide.
They never spoke about these ghostly images that would pull them away as they grew up together, but Dane learned to recognize that look in Willow's eyes – the one that told him that she was seeing something he could not perceive…he would always hold her tightly as a force of energy would pull them into another world – and pushed them back into theirs once Willow had brought peace to the one that had called her. Almost every thought Dane had was about Willow – he managed to stay at her house each night of the new moon – he did that because he knew on that night his best friend would have a terrifying nightmare – one that caused her to scream out – then embrace her chest as the weight she always felt was lifted….he hated those nights. He tried to keep her awake – to make her stay safely at his side, but she refused…he never understood why – why she would knowingly close her eyes on a night like that. He wondered who else was in her dreams – if that person was who she was thinking of when her eyes stared endlessly into thin air. He studied every painting she had created looking for clues to her dreams – ways to help her, but all he ever found was the refection of the people he watched her save.Outside of Willow Dane's life was somewhat typical. He was an only child, his parents owned a little diner on Main Street in the small town of Franklin. They worked constantly – always trying to make ends meet – and find ways to expand. They told him over and over they worked so hard so that when he took over it would not be so hard on him….the only problem was he didn't want to take over…he didn't want that life.At the same time he didn't know what he wanted to be 'when he grew up'. He was a star athlete in football, baseball, and basketball in high school – even managed to earn a few scholarships to various schools. He chose to take a year off…he told his parents it was to help them, to take time to chose the school that was best for him, but everyone knew he was waiting for Willow – waiting to see what school she would go to. There was this unspoken 'hands off' rule everyone knew about Willow – she was beautiful girl and had countless admirers that would do anything for her attention, but they knew that even though Dane and Willow never admitted to being a couple – they were close enough. Close enough that it would be wise to keep your distance – to be nothing but a gentleman around her.Dane had taken Willow to every school function there ever was…he never asked her, she never asked him…it was just always assumed. Each game he played – she was there smiling cheering him on, and with each victory she was the first one he ran to when it was time to celebrate.One summer night, when Dane was seventeen, at the lake, as he and Willow gazed at the stars a moment came – one they had avoided for years – their eyes met and slowly their lips touched….this kiss was empty, his heart did not race…he never felt butterflies in his stomach…and when it was over he acted the same way he did when he was six and he saw her help her first image – like nothing happened. That moment gave them no doubt that they were nothing more than friends – good friends, but nothing more.
He wasn't in love with her, but he did love her – he did feel that it was his job to protect her from all of the odd things she was capable of, and down deep inside something told him if stayed close to her that he would find that missing piece – he would figure out who he was meant to be in this life….he knew he wanted to travel – to see the world. Step out the small town life…he didn't want the type of life that would give him routine – he craved adventure.You know what they say – be careful what you wish for….Dane followed Willow when her fate finally called her – and he found everything he was looking for, and everything he wasn't. Today as I write the fifth installment of the Insight series Dane is still developing - the canvas of his character has layers I have yet to see – he has an old soul – one that may not have always been has pure as he is in this life. He is still trying to find his place, but he knows that the job of protecting Willow no longer belongs to him and him alone…he gladly welcomed the people Willow led him to – embraced worlds that were beyond his own, and fought demons within and around him.I look forward to knowing more about him. I hope you enjoyed getting to know him…a little more depth into his and Willow's past – one that is only mentioned within the series itself.
Ok so who's next??? Tell me who you want to hear about!
I'm extremely excited to introduce my brand new series SEE to all of you....
Without further ado here is the cover!
And here is what you will find between the pages!
Forgetting who you are, your ambitions, your passions is crippling….but remembering – embracing your purpose with a new sense of determination is more than empowering….it's life altering. Charlie Myers is on a life altering path that will cause the dammed to humble in silence.
One night…just a few friends, how could it go so wrong? That was the question seventeen year old Charlie Myers was asking when she found herself in the ER. Outwardly nothing was wrong with Charlie, she was a vision of perfect heath, internally she was battling a raging headache…one the doctor told her she would overcome shortly, but Charlie knew something else was wrong …very wrong.
Part of her had been stolen…she was missing memories. Those memories were sacred. They held the key to her sanity. They told her that the sinister whispers, the shadows that came to life before her were not as ominous as she felt they were. They held the bond with her late father, a famed musician. They caused her to forget the one talent that allowed her to face the darkness that haunted her every waking hour. They also masked a much deeper bond, the face of the one that had stolen her heart, long before the age of seventeen.
Sitting in the ER with her angry mother she couldn't figure out what she was missing, or even how. Her thoughts told her that she needed to protect Britain, a friend of hers, but that didn't make any sense – Britain didn't need to be protected from anyone, he was strong, young, and absurdly wealthy. Charlie also knew that even though her friend Bianca called Charlie her best friend, she didn't trust her …she was almost sure she despised her, but she couldn't figure out why, or understand how random thoughts were telling her that she adored both Britain and Bianca – that they were her saviors – that they brought silence to the unstoppable whispers, but the silence scared Charlie. In her mind anyone or anything that could bring silence to something that dark could not be good.
Charlie wanted to stay in NY, figure out what she was missing, why, and who was behind it all, but her mother had other plans. Against her will, Charlie was sent to Salem to live with her sister, within that small town Charlie found her memories and so much more.
Her story begins now.
