Where Does the Devil Reside? — Find out for 99 cents
You’ll need a stiff Irish coffee for this one.
My steampunk horror novella WHERE THE DEVIL RESIDES is also on sale for 99 cents this week.
“As a novella, this is a lot of fun, a little bit pulpy, but at the same time serious, and dark. The bad guys and underlying evil is like what you’d find in a Lansdale or Vachss story, but you have a bit of Lovecraft and even Poe peppered in here. The unreliable narrator and very crafty layering of meanings among the characters, their words, and their actions make this the single best thing I have read by Travis Heermann. The author attempts some things that I would classify as culturally risky, but totally pulls it off through artful arrangement.” – Daniel Read, Amazon Reviewer

Get Hammered for Cheap!
Curl up with a cozy cup of coffee or tea and…GET READY TO RUMMMBLLLLEEE!
My sci-fi dystopian gladiator thrill-fest THE HAMMER FALLS is on sale this week!
“THE HAMMER FALLS is a raucous, entertaining, action-packed riot. Like his characters, Heermann punches hard from beginning to end, a skilled storyteller who knows exactly what he’s doing. THE HAMMER FALLS reads like pure pulp–but like Philip José Farmer, Dashiell Hammett, and the other pulp masters, Heermann brings real heart and depth to his characters. Amidst the heavy-hitting violence, there’s care and comedy and endearing sacrifice. Do not miss this book.” – J.L. Forrest, author of the Songs at the End of the World series

It’s not Christmas, Thanksgiving, or New Year’s, although I love all those, too. No, my favorite time of year is Scary Season, culminating in Halloween.
This is the time of year I indulge in more horror movies, both new ones and the classics. Monsters, chills, thrills, *sniiffffff* ahhh, smell the tension in the air.
Unlike the real world right now, this kind of tension gets resolved.
So to celebrate the Spooky Season, the Scary Season, the Halloween hullabaloo, I’m running a 50% OFF sale in my online store, on all the dark and horrible books. No coupons, no discount codes. All dark and creepy. All on sale.
The Halloween Sale includes novels and anthologies. I ship within 24 hours.
So go there now and grab some signed books for yourself or your favorite lover of scary tales.

The Baen Free Radio Hour
Yes, that Charlaine Harris. True Blood Charlaine Harris.
But we’re not there talking about Sookie Stackhouse. We’re talking about Straight Outta Deadwood, which just landed in mass market paperback.
A fun discussion with a great bunch of folks.
And while we’re at it, don’t forget to grab your copy of Straight Outta Deadwood! Just in time for the Halloween Season!

New BattleTech Fiction in Shrapnel #2!
I played BattleTech WAAAYY back in 80s and 90s. It’s one of tabletop wargaming’s most venerable properties, as well as having done some amazing video game renditions in recent years, so it’s a thrill to write some fiction for it.
“Daybreak on Shining Mountain” is about a lost, forgotten colony, way out on the galactic periphery, going about their business, waiting for some sort of contact with the rest of human civilization. Their FTL communications are down. It takes three hundred years to get a radio message to the nearest inhabited system. But when someone finally hears them and comes to investigate, it’s not who they expect.
This is my favorite of my BattleTech stories. Two previous stories appeared in the anthologies Legacy and Kill Zone, one of which was nominated for a Scribe Award last year for Best Short Story. But in this one, I just love the main character. Maki is a spunky, take-no-crap kinda gal who’s very good at driving 60 tons of stomping fury. If only she and her father–who also happens to be her commander–could get along.
If galactic, military sci-fi with big, stompy robots is your cup of highly charged particles, grab your copy now.
