All Aboard
Thanks to the work of activists, including ones in Northampton, the federal government is investing more money than ever before in making trains better. The Northampton activists have a web site at www.TrainsInTheValley.org. “We're waiting for the hopeful award of federal money to rail work between Worcester and Springfield,” one of the Northampton activists, Ben Heckscher, told the Valley Post on February 22.

325 Rally
About 325 people, including people from the county that's home to Brattleboro, attended a climate rally outside the Vermont statehouse on February 11. The group 350 Vermont and other groups organized the rally.

Workers Win
About 350 workers in Springfield, Massachusetts had a major victory when they voted to approve a new union contract. “I feel great,” Iris Rivera-Medina told the Valley Post in a voice phone interview on February 9. “We fought hard. In Ashfield, Massachusetts, 150 acres of open space has been permanently protected from development. Tyre Nichols Rally Set
In Hadley, Massachusetts, which borders Northampton, the workers at the Trader Joe's supermarket are negotiating their first union contract. “We just wrapped up two days of negotiations in Hadley. It was our most productive bargaining session yet,” the workers wrote on Instagram on February 2. A union spokesperson did not immediately reply to an email seeking additional comments.
