The Craft of Writing I: Show and Tell

The Craft of Writing I: Show and Tell (or Your Entrance Was Good, His Was Better. Difference? Showmanship.) Contrast these two sentences: Jimmy got angry and punched Bobby in the face. Jimmy's cheeks burned as his jaw clenched, his hands tightening into fists almost of their own accord, and before he stopped to think about [...:]

New Reading Goal

I've fallen behind in reading. I mean, waaaay behind. I have 74 books listed to be read pile, and that's simply too many. Oi. My answer to this is to read two of those books every month and review them (here, Goodreads, and Amazon). My motivation for this is that I've sucked Kris into doing [...:]

Wonderful Review For "The Keeper"

To top off my exhausting, but wonderful, day — An amazing 4.5 review for The Keeper at BookWenches. Bedtime now. Well, soon. Very soon. I am running low on fuel.

Fill Your Paper With the Breathings of Your Heart: It's Done

Catalyst… is done. In seven days (and not uninterrupted days, either, as Kris worked three of those days, and I was sick one day), Kris and I wrote just a bit over 29,000 words to the manuscript, making it round out to just below 80,000 words in length. I'm in shock. It might be the [...:]

One Potato, Two Potato: A Talk of Word Count

I've set myself a new goal. Each week, on Mondays and Fridays, I will post something substantial here that pertains to writing. Mondays will be general topics on my own writing habits and thoughts, and Fridays will be entitled The Craft of Writing. I have 12 topics ready for Fridays so far. Today is Monday, [...:]

Sunday Indulgences: The Keeper, Catalyst, and Family

First thing: 4-star and 5-star reviews for The Keeper on Goodreads. The 5-star is the second 5-star on Amazon, too. I know there are the weak spots in The Keeper's world building. I promise, The Keeper's Heart will address a lot of unanswered questions. You just might have to wait a bit for it, as [...:]

Accomplishments

Yesterday, Kris and I worked from about 1pm until 10:30pm with very little pausing. Our results? Four new scenes in Catalyst and over 5,500 words added to the manuscript. This leaves us with 9 major scenes in our outline plus 2 fill-in scenes I need to go back and add. With any luck, today I'll [...:]

Plugging Along on "Catalyst"

Over the last 48 hours, Kris and I have managed to add 4,164 words to the Catalyst manuscript. We've crossed over the 54,000 word mark. I would have liked to have done more than 1,000 words today, but I've been slammed with a migraine. Last night, I wound up with a sudden and extremely painful [...:]

Mark a red X on our door

I caught some odd cold recently. It's left me coughing, fatigued, and with a terrible, terrible sore throat. I've been battling it for over a week now. Still, I manage to get small things done in my day. Yesterday was mainly spent going back and forth with the typesetter about Cast the Cards. I've made [...:]
