Uphill

So I'm picspamming. So shoot me.

Also on the camera in the download: casual snap of Pooka at the mosey. Even not using his back worth mentioning, he's seriously uphill. Positive DAP! Whoo!

Or, for them as doesn't speak techno-horse, his front foot clears the ground well ahead of the corresponding back foot. It's a good thing if you have a dressage horse. Here, if I were riding, I'd fluff his back up and get his hind end under more, and he'd be collected.

I was downloading [info:] tcastleb 's lesson photos and grabbed this one, too. Minnow and Trouble chillin' on a summer afternoon.

Random Cat-Waxing, Ephiny, Pooka the Weird, and Various

This is a totally random post. May take sharp left turns. Or right ones. Enjoy the ride.

Ephiny
I realize I've seriously fallen down on Ephiny's Training Diary. Working Student had to quit because of overwhelming academic commitments, which removed the structure from that project. We have continued the process, slowed down by CFS, weather, and assorted farp, but the slowdown has had method in its madness. Ephiny has been processing; I've been working her when she asks, and doing various things...

We're all a-squee

First of all, we finally have a cover for HOUSE OF THE STAR, the horse book coming out from Tor Starscape in November. You can preorder it on amazon. And now look!

I'm really excited about that.

Aaaannnnd about this:

Last year I aided and abetted the creation of a Steampunk shared-world anthology over on Book View Cafe. I helped with copyedits and proofing as well as worldbuilding and writing. I was the copy editor for the story I'm squeeing about today, and it is Amazing.

Apparently an award ju...

Free Romance Online

If you're a reader of romance, sf and fantasy romance, and/or Darkover, here's a free fix: Book View Cafe, the online writers' co-op, is branching out. The official word is like so:

Free Romance at Book View Café

In celebration of the recent addition of romance ereads at its site, Book View Café has released THE PASSIONATE CAFE, a free ebook of romantic tales from BVC authors. Stories range from quirky and humorous to Regency by such authors as Patricia Rice, Madeleine Robins, Jennifer Stevenso...

Looking the Dragon in the Eye

Today isn't all that hot, for June in southern Arizona, but the forecast for the rest of the month is, shall we say, typical. We are all taking a deep breath and bracing ourselves for the Dragon Weather.

Meanwhile, having spent much of May in CFS collapse, I'm hoping that's over and the summer will be productive. And un-collapsed. To help with that, I ran away for a few days over the weekend, and mostly slept in and did not think about Life And Everything. I.e. took a vacation. Thanks to [info:]

Happy Camping

We are in the middle of Camp Lipizzan, and true to tradition, our Camper has already booked the next one. We're the potato chips of writers' retreats (you can't have just one).

Our unseasonably non-toasty spring weather continues. There is an occasional flirtation with the high 90sF, then the wind comes roaring in and we drop down to the 80s. Or even the high 70s. This can continue, minus the wind, please.

And of course, because this is Camp, we've had lessons. I hadn't had one since January, w...

Photoblogging the Lunch Break

In between deadlines, on a lovely spring day (didn't even crack 90F today--unheard of in mid-May), I went out to feed the horses their lunch. With something for [info:] birdhousefrog .

The desert in an image: prickly pear in bloom, with wild zinnia:

For [info:] birdhousefrog , here's the blooming version of the cholla with the cool geometry:

It grows up through and around a mesquite tree:

And in closeup:

The herd wanted to know what I was doing all the way out there:

SRSLY, said Tia (l.) and Ephiny:

A few minutes ear...
