Cover Reveal: Scattering Stars

Wendy started college at the University of Colorado in Boulder, followed by a year at the University of Nevada in Reno and two years at Brigham Young University, where she worked as a reporter and copy editor for The Daily Universe. A decision to take a short break from school turned into a twelve-year hiatus in Lake Tahoe. After a two-year stint in the civil engineering program at California State University in Sacramento, Wendy returned to Colorado and graduated from CU with a degree in English Writing. It was a long, but valuable, educational journey.
After twenty years in Colorado, Wendy recently moved back to Northern Nevada, close enough to Lake Tahoe to enjoy the beautiful scenery but far enough away to escape the heavy winters. She lives with a wonderful husband who’s a financial guru–thank goodness–and a golden retriever who’s often mistaken for a sloth. Her two brainy and creative sons challenge her intellect and make her want to be smarter. Wendy hopes someday to journey to the stars.

Deep in the Colorado Mountains lie many secrets. One of them could change the world.
When sixteen-year-old Eve Hunter returns to her childhood home of Ridgway, Colorado, she discovers a tight-knit colony of scientists and their families led by her grandfather, Jarak. Ten years earlier, her mother drowned suspiciously in a nearby canyon, and Eve becomes convinced the townspeople are hiding something. By lineage, Eve belongs to the colony and despite her reservations, she feels drawn to the colonists—particularly one of them: Daniel Winter, an eerily familiar, intense boy whose determination to monitor her and all the colonists is more than a little disturbing. After Jarak reveals her true heritage, Eve learns her return to Ridgway is not a coincidence. She’s a key piece in Jarak’s plan. As secrets are revealed, Eve becomes entangled in a deadly game—and time’s running out to master the rules. One wrong move could jeopardize the future of the planet. "

Perhaps Brad decided he’d had enough for one day. He stood slowly, possessed by a fury that made me want to dive under the table. His body shook violently as he raised his arm toward Tara as if to push her away. An intense vibrating energy electrified the atmosphere as Tara shot backwards and slammed into the cafeteria wall.Erik and Daniel shouted simultaneously, “Brad, stop!” Their shouts echoed throughout the room. Brad examined his hand, clearly stunned. Tara gaped at him, but not in terror as I would’ve expected. Despite her embarrassment and physical discomfort, her facial expression was eerily smug. She was pleased she’d provoked Brad to such overpowering rage. “Well, Bradley. You surprised us all, didn’t you?”

Facts About the Author:
1. Marketing! I wrote Sparks in a few weeks and spent months revising, but when I wrote it, I never thought I would put it on the market. It was just something fun to do and I enjoyed it. Only when it was finished and my husband read it did we discuss self-publishing. By then, the book was already finished but I had a mountain to learn about marketing. Now, it's one of my favorite parts of this business!
2. My dad always said, "It takes all types to make the world go round." I grew up in Austin, Texas, a mecca of the strange and weird, and my parents definitely embraced that. Whatever interest I had at the time, it was always encouraged. I could have piercings and colored hair and eclectic outfits and, as long as I kept my grades up and didn't get in trouble, it was supported. They always encouraged me in whatever I was doing and encouraged me to be supportive of others as well. It was an early bit of advice that has served me well.

Spring Countdown Blitz - Day 6

Q & A the Author:
1. Which did you find more difficult: writing the book or marketing it? Why?
I find marketing much more difficult than writing. I'm an introvert, so I'm a lot more comfortable hiding behind my computer or a good book than interacting with people I don't know well.
2. What is the best advice you received growing up?
The best “advice” I ever received was really more of a good example. I had been bullied for being smart and geeky and just “different,” so I tried my best to be “normal” and blend in. But then I met a friend who managed to be smart and geeky and do his own thing, but because he was confident
and comfortable in his own skin, he might not have been the most popular kid, but people just kind of accepted him. He helped me learn not to be afraid of being myself and not to care so much what other people think (a lesson I still have to relearn from time to time).

Top Ten List1. I'm left handed.2. I have a spinal cord injury, which caused partial paralysis in my left hand, so I'm a chicken-peck typist. A really, really fast chicken-peck typist.3. I also have no hot or cold sensation in one leg. Don't trust me if I stick my toes in the pool and tell you the water's fine.4. I'm scared of heights, but not of spiders.5. In college I studied medieval and Renaissance history, so I learned German, French, Old Norse, Welsh, and Latin. I don't remember much of any of them.6. I sing along with the radio while I drive.7. I play the hammered dulcimer.8. I think computers run on black magic, and even my electrical engineer husband can't convince me otherwise.9. My super power is an incredibly keen sense of smell. This made me throw up every day when I was pregnant.10. I've visited an honest-to-goodness haunted castle, and it scared the living daylights out of me.

1. Which did you find more difficult: writing the book or marketing it? Why?
I worked on this book for three years and had to rewrite it from scratch after I learned how to write better and how to tell a good story. That was hard. I'm a slow writer. As for the marketing, since it just came out in January, it's still an ongoing (very slow) process.2. What is the best advice you received growing up?
I can't remember any one piece of advice in particular over another, just a strong sense of honesty and work ethic. Books were important to my mother, and I grew up loving books as well.

Facts About the Author:
1. Which did you find more difficult: writing the book or marketing it? Why?Oh, definitely writing the book. It took three years and several rewrites to figure out where I wanted this story to go. Novels are definitely harder than they look.
2. What is the best advice you received growing up?My childhood teachers always said I could be anything I wanted, but that wasn't really true. Being 5'4" (and female), I'll never play in the NBA. I would never have made it to the Olympics as a swimmer, no matter how hard I worked. (That 5'4" thing again.) I'll never be an astronaut or President or the CEO of a large corporation. But I had a few professors in college tell me that I had a talent for certain things, and that if I worked hard, I could go far. It's that "if" that matters the most, I think. Talent (and height and ability and all that) is a factor, but it's not THE factor. Hard work and determination will get you way further than raw talent, and nowhere is that more true than in the publishing business.

Spring Countdown Blitz - Day 3

Teya has been writing for as long as she can remember. At a young age she lived on a street she affectionately named Hill Street Blues. She is street smart and fluent in sarcasm, all help in her writing. Her father would always be and will continue to be her inspiration, even after his untimely death in 2006.
She loves sitting in her soft chair next to the fireplace and watching out a big living room window. It gives her plenty of creative juice for stories.
She met the love of her life in the loft of a barn. Yep, that set up some teasing from her father. They have been happily married since 2003. They have four children and all are loving and supportive of her writing. She refuses to comment on the trolls in the closets and under the beds. She is active in her church, has compassion for others, and a love for all life brings.

When Shane Coleman and his nephew Sam move into town, it's the biggest event to happen in as long as anyone can remember. Sam is drawn to Niahm against his will. He'd prefer to not be bound to this angry, stubborn, unlikeable girl. Unfortunately, he has no choice. However, Sam didn't plan on falling for Niahm. For Immortals, love is not only forbidden, but dangerous for her. He finds himself in a fight not only for Niahm's heart, but to protect her from being harmed by those who seek to destroy Sam and those like him.

Q & A with the Author:
1. Which did you find more difficult: writing the book or marketing it? Why?In this case, marketing the book was more difficult. I didn’t know a lot about marketing, so I wasn’t sure of the best way to go about that. Marketing continues to be a struggle for most authors. The landscape of publishing changes daily which makes the best way to market constantly in flux. What works today could be obsolete tomorrow. So it becomes necessary to constantly watch what others are doing and change your strategies.2. What is the best advice you received growing up?My dad used to say, “apologizing after you’ve hurt someone is like pulling a nail out of a board and expecting the hole to disappear.” What he meant was not that you shouldn’t or can’t apologize, but that you should try to avoid the hurt in the first place because though you can try to make it right, it will always be there. I frequently think of that and try really hard to not hurt others to avoid leaving a hole in their heart or soul.
