Marissa’s bio:
Born and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, I now reside about an hour from Washington, D.C. I am a lady who likes to keep busy, and am always busy doing something. With two different college degrees, I believe you are never done learning.
Being the first daughter to an avid reader, this gave me the advantage of learning to read at a young age. Since learning to read I have always had my nose in a book. It wasn’t until I was a teenager that I started writing down the stories I came up with.
My first experience in publishing was reviewing and then marketing. It wasn’t until I was in the business a year or more that I had enough courage to submit something to be published. Now between writing, marketing, and running Ruby Lioness Press my days are full.

You Guys Blew. Me. Away.

AND THE WINNER IS . . .
I don’t ordinarily create a new post to announce winners of my giveaways. (If you didn’t know, I update the post and comment section, then contact the winner via email). But this time — *this* time — I just had to. You know why? Because you guys Blew. Me. Away. (Okay, so you got that from the title, but let me tell you why.)
Six days.
Almost 300 entries.
Nearly 1100 hits on the *direct* link.
(Yeah, so that means almost 800 people say the contest, went “meh,” and went on without entering. We’ll ignore that staggering statistic for now, mkay?)
And the Winner is . . .
I know you want to know, but there’s a story with this. I use random.org for my giveaways, and naturally random.org chose a winner over halfway through the list. The kids interrupted me about three times while I was counting, necessitating that I had to start over. Then the computer froze on me while I was counting-and-scrolling, requiring yet another do-over. Um, twice. So needless to say, this was one hard-won giveaway, but we do have a winner. And the winner is . . .
STACEY CLIFFORD!
Congratulations Stacey! And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to *everyone* who entered. I am humbled by the comments, the excitement, and the personal notes you all left. You guys freaking rock, but you knew that already, right? *grin* I just want to make sure you know *I* know how awesome you are, and how much I truly appreciate your warmth and support.
I’d also like you all know I will continue to open my own giveaways to international peeps (with one existing exception, listed below). And because my upcoming FTMP books will release in paperback, you can look forward to *many* more *international* print giveaways. SQUEE! And if you want to score BIG, be sure to subscribe by email.
Are you an email subscriber? Here’s why you should be!
1. Subscribers are automatically entered in my weekly gift card giveaways to score either a $10 gift certificate to Noble Romance or $5 to Amazon or Barnes & Noble. (Full details here.)
2. Subscribers will be the first to find out about new giveaways, which includes mine and that of my guests.
3. In most of my giveaways, if the winner is an email subscriber he or she will score an extra prize (usually a gift certificate — see individual giveaways for details).
See? Three fantastic reasons to subscribe! And meanwhile, if you are in the U.S. and you’d like another shot at a print copy of HAWTHORNE, check out my GoodReads giveaway. (I apologize to the international peeps on that one — I wanted to feel my way through one giveaway before I crossed the border, lol.)
Thanks again for your wonderful support. I hope your day is every bit as fantastic as you’ve made mine to be. xoxo!

04.22.12 #SixSunday with Tide of Lies

Thrilling new romantic suspense! Click image for several electronic formats, including PDF and Kindle/Nook files.
TIDE OF LIES is *now available* from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Noble Romance! And for the scoop on the unsolved murders leading to the lies, check out FAMILIAR LIGHT, on sale for $1.50.
Last week, Julia found herself with an unexpected visitor who has just demanded — at gunpoint — she leave a note of farewell for Holden. I had to skip a few parts thereafter due to heavy spoilers, which brings us to this point, when Holden has just realized who has Julia.
Holden tore out of the lot, leaving an inch of rubber on the pavement. A group of scantily dressed beachgoers shied away from the sidewalk when he bounced off the curb. “Not even close,” he muttered, sliding out of the turn and fishtailing down the street, heading back in the direction from which he’d come. He didn’t have a plan, but he had an idea. William Clancy had been around Barrier Shoals PD for as long as anyone could remember, and he knew the town like no one else. Maybe he’d have the piece Holden was missing.

04.21.2012 #SweetSat Samples: Unforgiven

Riley Beckett's past just came back to haunt her ... and this time he's got a gun. UNFORGIVEN ... click image.
Congratulations to catherine0807(at)etc, this week’s gift card winner! If you’d like to be eligible for my weekly giveaways of a $10 gift card to Noble Romance or $5 to Amazon or Barnes & Noble (winner’s choice), simply subscribe by email using the box to your left. You’ll be automatically entered every week for as long as you remain a subscriber.
Gage and Riley were once lovers, but a deadly twist of fate tore them apart. Now, one year later, they’re thrown together by a murder in which Gage was the intended victim and Riley is wanted for the crime.
In a recent sample, Riley found out Gage hadn’t quit drinking as he promised. Riley lost everyone she loved by defending Gage’s sobriety, so to find out it was all a lie — and that her father knew all along — devastated her. The first line of speech is hers.
“After the accident . . . when I left. I asked you—”
“You asked me not to drink. You asked me not to give in. Not to turn to the alcohol because . . . you were leaving me.”
“Have you?”
He looked at her, his face as solemn as she’d ever seen it. “Not a drop. I swear.”
“And you’re good for your word?”
“Yes.” The word hung between them, going nowhere.
She stopped her travels at the driver’s side door of the truck and grabbed the handle. “You also promised never to contact me again. Yet there you were in my living room, pointing a gun at my head. Bleeping liar.”
He opened his mouth, but she waved away the words. Nothing he could have said would change anything. No defense existed for what he’d done. He’d stolen her faith with his lies, and in a way he’d taken her daddy, too. The memories she clung to were now tainted with the secret her father kept, with the betrayal of siding with Gage, of allowing her to trust him while he made a fool of her. The whole town of Barefoot had probably laughed behind her back. Some might have even said she got what she deserved, and maybe they were right. But the lie was over, and at least now she knew she’d gotten one thing right. Steeling herself against his betrayal, she met Gage’s eyes. “I can’t do this.”
“You can’t do what?”
“This. Just . . . call Maverick. Order up another truck or whatever you do. Just . . . goodbye, Gage.”
She paused, waiting for him to say something. But there was only silence buoyed by a cloud of anger and hurt. Tense seconds crawled past before he opened his mouth and then closed it. Then, without speaking, he held up his palms and stepped away from the truck.
Gage didn’t even try to stop her from going.
Flying blind through a mask of tears, she got in Maverick’s truck and left.

UNFORGIVEN
Riley Beckett’s past just came back to haunt her . . . and this time, he’s got a gun.
When Gage Lawton finds his brother shot dead on his back porch, every shred of evidence points to one person: Gage’s former lover, Riley. He and she didn’t part ways on good terms, and he’s not planning to rekindle anything now–not when he’s got a revolver pointed at her head and a finger on the trigger.
A year after Riley swore she and Gage were over, he returns in a hail of gunfire. One look into those achingly familiar blue eyes and she knows how wrong she was to let him go, but now far more than their heated past stands in the way. A twist of fate puts them in the crosshairs of a killer, leaving Riley with two slim options: trust her greatest betrayer or face a murderer on her own.

A successful executive, M. Taylor Hamilton is on track with her ten-year plan. Too bad her personal life consists of hitting the gym and grocery shopping. Enter the seductive Adam Kirliss. They may have a working relationship, but everything changes at an office party when he handcuffs her to the rail of a yacht. Taylor writes the adventure off as too much champagne, but when Adam challenges her to a date, she agrees to meet up with him. And follow his rules. They share a night of exquisite intimacy, brimming with both pain and pleasure. But afterwards, fearful of losing her heart, Taylor pulls back emotionally. Adam is determined to prove that she longs for the loss of control he can give her – and the passionate release it provides. How can he make her see that he wants her, and not just her body?
Excerpt
Kirliss captured her other wrist and held them close in front of her, his warm fingers massaging her skin, while he studied her face. The boat surged over a wave, disturbing her balance. Kirliss’s unusual eyes caught the light, boring into her.
“This is silly,” she tried.
“Do you want me to make you stay?”
“What?” Taylor choked. She couldn’t let him treat her this way. “No! You’ll do no such—”
She lost her breath entirely when he pressed up against her. Thinking he was trying to embrace her, she pulled away and found herself backed against the brass railing.
By the time she gathered her flustered thoughts, her wrists were handcuffed to the rail behind her. Mortified, a bit afraid and—worse—suddenly and wildly aroused…

Jeffe (pronounced Jeff- ee) took the crooked road to writing, stopping off at neurobiology, religious studies and environmental consulting before her creative writing began appearing in places like Redbook, Puerto del Sol, Wyoming Wildlife, Under the Sun and Aeon. She has been a Ucross Foundation Fellow (2001), was a Wyoming Arts Council roster artist, when she lived in Wyoming, and received the state’s 2005 Frank Nelson Doubleday Memorial Award for a woman writer of exceptional talent in any creative writing genre and the 2007 Fellowship for Poetry. Jeffe has contributed to several anthologies, Drive: Women’s True Stories of the Open Road. (2002), Hard Ground (2003), Bombshells (2007) and Going Green (2009). Her first book, Wyoming Trucks, True Love and the Weather Channel was published by University of New Mexico Press in 2004. An erotic novella, Petals and Thorns, came out under her pen name of Jennifer Paris in 2010, heralding yet another branch of her path, into erotica and romantic fantasy fiction. Jeffe lives in Santa Fe, with two Maine coon cats, a border collie, plentiful free-range lizards and frequently serves as a guinea pig for an acupuncturist-in-training.
Who Is Jennifer Paris?
I was doing the “Jeffe Kennedy writing as Jennifer Paris” thing, but Angela James, my editor at Carina, said no, no, no. Since I really don’t want to “flesh out” Jennifer Paris and tweet or blog as her (she was only a cardboard cut-out anyway), I decided to retire her. However, I have one book “Petals and Thorns” that is by Jennifer Paris.

Gracen Miller: Meet the Road to Hell Series Characters
Gracen was one of the first to reach out to me when I was still brand new at this authoring gig, so it’s an extra special moment for me to introduce her to you all today. Her “Road to Hell” series has one heck of a fan base, and I hope we’ll soon be able to add some of you to that roster of enthusiastic readers. ;c) Gracen, welcome, and take it away!
Gracen Miller: Meet the Road to Hell Series Characters
Micah Dominus

What’s a man to do when his wife is destined for greatness, but she refuses to claim her fate? My actions toward her were difficult, but necessary. Judge me when you have all the facts. Better yet, criticize me when you’re faced with the same difficult choices. Few of you could make the same hard choices I did.
Mankind would consider my deeds brutal and abusive, but I’d caution humanity to remember rarely is anything as it seems on the surface. Scratch that veneer and a whole world of possibilities will open before your eyes. A plethora of demons eager to taunt you and feast upon your soul. Indomitable fallen angels to claim you for their hellish kingdom. And not one of your so-called guardian angels will ride in to save the day. Where are they when you need them the most?
I’ll offer you salvation and provide you protection too. That’s a guarantee. Everyone I own or defend will receive an amazing new world at no cost. Eager to obtain my free paradise? All you have to do is accept my offer of your own free will….
Madison Wescott
My life is a lie. My birth, my parents, my marriage and my destiny were all planned for me. Discovering the truth rocked my foundation, culminating in new beliefs and a doggedness to escape my fate. My ‘fate’ has a name and I once loved him. I called him husband then, now I call him foe. My one solace is that he miscalculated my resistance to claim my hellish status. I refuse to accept my providence with nothing more than a whimper of surrender. Underestimating me was his first mistake. I’ll fight to the bloody end to save not only my future, but my son’s. He deserves more than what’s been designed for him.
Finding a new family on the Road to Hell came as a surprise. An immortal in the guise of mentor makes me stronger, gives me courage and battles at my side. A badass Sherlock came to my rescue at the darkest moment of my life and has become my rock…until he sold his soul to Hell. But I failed him when I tried to save him from his destiny. In the process, I altered my future, stepped closer to accepting my husband’s fate for me. A little too late I learned, once you open Pandora’s Box, there’s no turning back!

The majority of my life has been dedicated to killing the monsters most people believe are myth. I masked my loneliness by sleeping with too many women, but then I met Madison Wescott and she changed my perception of the world. Strong and dedicated to her son, she’s smart and sexy. She’s the only woman outside my family I’d sacrifice everything for, including my life. I nicknamed her Mads because in her darkest hour, she found the courage to fight like a mad woman. I’d traverse the road to hell for her. Against all supernatural odds, I’m placing my bets on her success.
Until Mads, I never dreamed about the future, never wanted more than I had been given. Mads changed everything. Left me craving things I shouldn’t want and a life I couldn’t have. She haunts my waking dreams as well as my sleeping ones. My fondest fantasy is claiming her as my own, declaring my love for her, while making love to her. Who knew my fantasy would be acted out in one of the darkest hours of my life? Or that it wouldn’t play out as I had envisioned? The devil plays his victims with mastered skill…

J.S. Wayne is Writing Out Child Abuse

To learn more about Writing Out Child Abuse and how you can help, please click the image.
Today was to be the first of several features for titles benefiting charity through J.S. Wayne's nonprofit organization, Writing Out Child Abuse (WOCA), but the production schedule was pushed back just a bit so the feature dates followed suit. But never fear … WOCA is still here! (Okay, even *I* am gagging that I wrote that, lol.) After I tell you a bit about the beautiful, admirable cause J.S. is working for, I'd like to introduce you to some of his work.
Writing Out Child Abuse (WOCA)
I hope you'll hop over to read J.S. Wayne's WOCA statement of origin because there's no way I can summarize his passion for this cause. But because I know not everyone will have the chance, I did lift the following passage from his letter to readers.
We're also going to do what we do best. We're going to write. We're going to craft quality stories in our chosen genres, publish them, and donate the proceeds from our stories, novels, and novellas dedicated to this cause to charities whose only goal is to help children touched by these horrors. And, God willing, give these children hope. –J.S. Wayne, WOCA statement of origin
I'd also like to beg (yes, BEG) you all to read I WANT TO, BUT …, a moving essay by Gillian Colbert about taking that first step to make a difference. The title pretty much says it all, but there's just so much more you all need to see in her words. Please take a moment to read it here.
Authors, if you'd like to donate your time and your talents, please go here to find out how you can get involved. Readers, I'd like to invite you to follow the WOCA blog for news, updates, and new releases. And, of course, stay tuned because I'm so excited to welcome J.S. and the gang for a week of WOCA awareness coming this summer.
J.S. WAYNE | Recent Book Releases
I'd like to make clear these are NOT titles benefiting WOCA, but that said, I'd love for you to get to know J.S. Wayne's talent through some of his recent releases. I've personally read J.S. and I have to say not only is he a man with a big heart, but he's one of phenomenal talent as well.
Louise is having a bad day: studying for exams, play rehearsals under a director she can't stand, and ill-fitting shoes. Surely, there's a limit to what a girl has to put up with!
But her day improves when she meets the pretty, new stagehand, Angie. An instant attraction leads to a sexy sojourn in Louise's dressing room. The rest of her day seems almost tolerable, until the director barges in on their interlude and collapses—before reviving to attack Louise. Angie fights him off, and the girls flee to the safety of the quad. Soon they learn their fallen assailant is only the first wave of a terrifying outbreak.
Their best hope to stay alive is to stay together. As they explore each other's bodies and learn the deepest secrets of their hearts, Louise and Angie discover that each has found something in the other's arms they never knew they wanted.
But they have to survive first.
There oughta be a law: dead means dead . . . .
"…this is another fast-paced story, with Louise and Angie a team with great chemistry together. There is some cracking dialogue with morbid humour, and Wayne doesn't skimp on the violence and gore." – Anything Horror (read full review)
DEAD MEANS DEAD: MORE INFO & BUY @ NOBLE ROMANCE
In the aftermath of a raid on a band of child slavers, Russell and Ion of the Chosen of Fenrir find themselves baring their hearts and souls—and their bodies—to one another. In doing so, they violate one of their clan's most sacred laws: Look not to your own kind for love.
Now, one will lay his life on the line on the Path of the Flame Dance, where the Earth Mother will judge whether the love they have is worthy—or a betrayal of their own blood. The other must watch as his lover walks the fire, or perishes in the attempt.
Stand or fall, the two warriors will never be the same . . . .
"[J.S. Wayne's] writing breathes life into the massive, wolf shifters, showing them to be men of integrity, strength and compassion. The hesitant discovery of their attraction and the way J.S. Wayne crafted the spellbinding outcome of their love brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful." – H.C. Brown (see full review)
"This story gives a new twist to J.S. Wayne's imaginative writing. I hope there's another in this series." – Dragonslayer (see full review)
