12.09.2012 #SixSunday with Last Call

       Coming soon to FTMP!

Thank you all so much for your congratulations! Last week while I was doing the Entangled Publishing happy dance, Rhys asked Nick for (ahem) a new set of memories … and he WALKED AWAY. I promised a followup, so while this doesn’t make for a profound six, LOL, I’m delivering.

She turned to see the pile of blankets moved to the floor. Nick approached and took her hand. “I’m pretty good at making memories,” he said softly. “Problem is, they’re not good ones.”

His words pieced together denial, but his tone—warm and a bit uncertain—left her reeling with its tenderness. “We have a few good ones,” she said, silently damning her shaky voice.

(If you’re wondering about the floor, it’s the only option in this little hideout. The blankets were folded on a wooden chair, so the floor is progress, LOL!)

R.L. King: The Duality of Writers (G!veaway)

Please welcome R.L. King as part of the DEAD HEART book tour! (Does this book look delicious or what? Well, delicious might not be the best word, but, well, YUM! And you have a chance to win it … stay tuned!)

R.L. King: The Duality of Writers

Hello Sarah,

First, let me humbly thank you for having me on your website, I am honored to be talking with such an accomplished author today. You are an inspiration to all us new writers, and after reading your About page, I wonder just how you get it all done? At the risk of sounding like I just escaped the mental asylum, I will tell you how I get it all done.

When I began writing Dead Heart, I divided myself into two parts. One half is the man who goes to work everyday, comes home and fixes everything that the kids broke that day, and the other is R.L. King, paranormal writer at large. Is it multiple personalities? I don’t think so, but if it is, I think all writers have it to some extent.

It is the reason R.L. King is on the book cover and not my real name. I think it is like when Stephen King was writing as Richard Bachman. The stories have the Stephen King trademark horror, but the writing is different, a good example is Richard Bachman uses adverbs where Stephen King avoids them.

For me, writing stories can only happen late at night. I like to get started right at midnight. By then the house is quiet, and I am virtually distraction free. It is my happy place. I go into my garage converted to a man-cave and when I shut the door, turn on the music, the world melts away and R.L. King goes to work on the keyboard.

I have told people that I tried to think of a good story, but it didn’t work out. So I tried to think of a writer that was much smarter than me, and try to think about what he would write, and so R.L. King was born. Sometimes they chuckle, others give me a confused stare, and a few wonder if I might really be crazy.

On a personal note, I like the separation. I am not comfortable speaking to large groups, and I tend to shy away from the spotlight. But R.L. King is full of confidence and loves any attention or publicity he can get. If this makes me crazy, then I should tell you that I have noticed the same behavior in “normal” people, like when you see someone from high school and you notice you start swearing more like you did back then when you thought it was cool.

Maybe I am justifying my own duality of writers, but I don’t think I am alone on this. I would be interested in reading the comments from both readers and writers that both agree and disagree completely. So my question is this, which side are you on?

Giveaway

Comment with an answer to R.L.’s question (bolded above) and you will be entered to win an e-copy of DEAD HEART!

Dead Heart

Would you give someone your own beating heart so they may live?

That is the question Doctor Paul Vieyra will have to ask himself as his world comes crashing down around him, and the ghost of those who died on his operating table haunt his mind.

When Dr. Vieyra sister’s heart begins to fail and her life fade away, a new heart or surgery are her only chances for survival—a chance no doctor is willing to take. Dr. Vieyra will risk everything he has and more for his sister. He will need the help of both old and new friends along with his mental ghosts if he is going to overcome the incredible obstacles that stand in his way.

The clock is ticking. Will he be able to save his sister’s dead heart? What is he willing to risk?

Murder Mi Amore: Romantic Suspense from Cara Marsi

http://www.buythebooktours.com/uploads/8/8/6/7/8867100/625846_orig.jpg?0Murder, jewel thieves and terrorists intrude on an American woman’s Roman holiday; can she trust the sexy, mysterious Italian man who comes to her aid?

Murder Mi Amore

Lexie Cortese is in Rome to forget. The last thing she expects is to meet a sexy Interpol agent who suspects her of being part of a terrorist plot involving a stolen diamond. Suddenly thrust into a world of murders, muggings, and kidnappings, Lexie doesn’t know what to think–or who to believe.

Dominic Brioni’s assignment is simple. Befriend the American and bring her to justice. Only Lexie seems the most unlikely terrorist Dominic has ever met. Sweet, determined, and direct, she faces life with courage and fire, a fire that sparks his protective instincts and a longing for something more–something he allowed himself to hope for only.

Murder Mi Amore | Excerpt

Lexie had started to run to him when someone grabbed her arm, pulling her around. A man, his face hidden by a ski mask, held tightly to her. Her shock ratcheted to fear. “Let go,” she yelled, trying to jerk her arm away from him, but his grip tightened. The dim light from the balcony above illuminated his flat black eyes. She had seen those eyes before. Holy shit. She was in trouble. The masked man grabbed for her purse. She screamed, and with strength she didn’t know she possessed, whammed him on the head with her purse. He staggered back, swearing, and slipped and fell. Lights and freedom beckoned from the nearby Via Corsi, but all Lexie could think about was Dominic. Turning on her heels, she ran to him, slipping on the ancient stones herself as Dominic struggled to stand. But before she could reach him, the mugger caught up with her and grabbed her shoulder, twisting her around. Dominic sprang up and flew at the mugger, knocking him to the ground. The two men grappled, rolling together on the cobbled street. Lexie, her heart thumping wildly, looked for an opening to bean the mugger again, to give Dominic a better chance at overcoming him.

“Stop it! Stop it! Leave him alone!” The mugger ended up on top, and she whaled away with her bag, getting in any shot she could.

http://www.buythebooktours.com/uploads/8/8/6/7/8867100/274853_orig.jpg?0

Shouts and the slap of running feet vibrated through the alley. The mugger swore, jumped up, and raced away, a few men giving chase. Several others helped Dominic to stand, yelling in excited voices, and gesturing toward where their attacker had disappeared.

Dominic winced in pain. Lexie looked down at his ripped, blood-soaked pant leg. “Dominic, you’ve got to get to the hospital. You’re bleeding.”

“I’m okay,” he said. “It is nothing.” Brushing dirt off his jacket, he turned to the men and said something in rapid Italian. With nods, they strode away.

Breathing heavily, Lexie disagreed. “You’re not okay. We’ll get a cab and take you to the hospital.”

He cupped her shoulders. “I’ve been through worse. I’m fine. Are you okay? Did he hurt you?”

“No. I’m…” The full impact of what had happened hit her. The adrenaline that had given her strength suddenly dissipated and she began to tremble. “I’m not okay.”

“Lexie.” Dominic moved forward to take her into his arms. She held on for dear life, needing his strength. He rubbed his hand along her back. “It’s okay, Lexie. We’re both okay. You’re safe with me.”

She clung to him. It wasn’t her imagination. Strange things were happening. She had nothing anyone could want. She didn’t know who to trust. Dominic said she was safe with him. But was she really?

12.02.2012 #SixSunday with Last Call

       Coming soon to FTMP!

I am so insanely excited I finally get to announce this that I’m going to tell you all first: I just signed with Entangled Publishing! I have a Flirt in the making, and — bonus — my new editor ROCKS. I’m uncharacteristically giddy over this news, so I’m going to go ahead and annoy all of you who have spent the last few weeks falling in love with Nick. Buahahahahaa!

Last week Nick tried to give Rhys the brushoff by suggesting her extra-strength ibuprofen had her saying things she didn’t mean. They’re stuck in a safehouse for the night and Rhys is all about letting the past be the past, but Nick isn’t so sure.

She fiddled with his shirt so he wouldn’t see her hands shake. “No, the past won’t change. But we have this one night. Let tonight be what I remember.”

Nick looked at her for a long time before seeming to make a decision.

Then he walked away.

D’oh! Okay, okay. It’s not as bad as it looks. *grin* We’ll follow up next week. For now, happy Six Sentence Sunday, everyone! (I’m doing the Entangled happy dance. Did you all know there’s an Entangled happy dance? There IS! SQUEE!)

A Promise for Her Love – Excerpt

Caylie Abrahams checked her suitcase one more time, pointing to the neatly packed compartments and mentally checking off things she’d already put inside. Butterflies danced in her stomach. She tried not to think too hard on the evening to come.

For the first time since they’d become a couple six months ago, she and Rick Marshall were going to spend the night together. Alone.

Taking a deep breath she raced to the bathroom and then quickly filled a cup with water. Hands shaking, she gulped down the cool fluid. Deep, loud laughter drew her attention away from what felt like prom night.

She set the cup on the counter, debating whether to keep packing or to make sure her brother would be fine for the weekend without her. Eighteen now, Kyle didn’t need to be watched over. However, he still lived under her roof, and she expected him to follow the rules.

A little reminder here and there about what she expected never hurt, so she headed down the hall to his room. At his door, she lifted her hand to knock. His muffled voice sounded through the slivered opening, and she paused. Pressing a hand to the frame to steady herself, she leaned closer, wondering if she’d heard correctly.

“Look, it’s not that I don’t want to do it, I just…No, hey, come on Gloria, that’s not fair.” He laughed again.

Caylie considered rushing down the stairs and snatching up the other phone. What little vixen was trying to demoralize her brother? She’d been down that path before with Kyle; she didn’t want to deal with bad influences again.

“See, here’s the deal,” he said, his voice turning somber. “My sis and her fiancé are waiting until after they’re married to do it, and I was thinking about it and, I think that’s right.”

Blinking, Caylie backed away from the door, heart pounding. The diamond on her ring finger glittered in the dying light of day. She had to call Rick. Before she could make it to her room—and her phone—a heavy pounding sounded on the door downstairs. On the way down she shouted to Kyle that she had the door.

The thick shadow on the other side of the front door glass made her heart skip. Nervousness and excitement collided, causing her hand to pause over the doorknob. Inhaling deeply, she yanked the door open and couldn’t stop the smile, her eyes settling on the face she never grew tired of seeing.

“Hey, gorgeous,” Rick said, his voice low and silky, causing a wonderful shiver to race up her spine.

He wrapped his arms around her waist, and she let loose a squeal as he scooped her against his firm body. The door banged closed. In a split second, he pinned her to the wall. Breath rushed from her lungs. Feverish and demanding, his lips sought hers and Caylie didn’t deny him.

For over a week they’d sufficed with phone conversations, texts and emails—all difficulties of a semi-long distance relationship. On the weekends, they stayed at each other’s house, in separate rooms out of respect for Kyle. Their weekdays were spent dealing with their individual lives; they were only able to support each other over a phone line. Caylie couldn’t wait for the day when they would be together for good.

The thought made her remember Kyle’s words, and with frustration, she pulled away. Pushing her hands on his chest to keep him from advancing again, she shook her head. Breathless, she said, “We can’t go alone to the lake this weekend.”

Confusion etched his handsome face, and he pulled back slightly. “What are you talking about? Why?”

Dryness suddenly coated her throat, and she swallowed. Unable to look at him, she focused on his shirt buttons. “I overheard Kyle talking to his girlfriend. He thinks we’ve made the choice not to sleep together until we’re married.”

“So?”

She met his stare. “So, he’s decided to make the same choice, because of us.”

“But we didn’t make that choice…did we?” The desperation straining his voice almost made her laugh. However, the same pent-up desire guided her body too, and it was screaming for her to forget what she’d heard.

Ignoring the heat coursing through her veins, she patted his chest and whispered, “I have.”

11.25.2012 #SixSunday with Last Call

       Coming soon to FTMP!

Last week Nick was trying to talk himself out of his feelings for Rhys. This week we’re in her POV. She’s just told him she’d like to work out whatever is between them, to which he replies she can’t really want that. Then he reminds her she’s on painkillers and probably doesn’t know what she’s saying. The first line is her response.

“Since when is extra strength ibuprofen considered mind-altering? And stop analyzing me.” She reached for him and immediately regretted it. Her nerve endings blazed with false bravado; there was no way he didn’t feel her adrenaline through her fingertips at his chest. She ached with the familiarity there. Countless hours in close proximity with Nick left her instinctively aware of his body—of nuances he probably didn’t know himself.

Giving Thanks … for these People

It’s Thanksgiving here in the U.S. and I won’t be anywhere near my blog today because I have more than a dozen hungry mouths to feed, including the crew pictured below. I know they look sweet (while still and silent), but rest assured no matter when you see this they are running around like maniacs trying to steal deviled eggs from the fridge while getting hopped up on cider and sweet tea. And scarfing down Cajun-stuffed jalapenos and turkey and cranberry sauce. And … well, you get the picture. They eat ANYTHING. And also everything.

Pretty much every day around here is some form of mania, but on this day of thanksgiving–a favorite holiday around here–mania is an understatement. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The actual children.

$100 Book Blast: Imperfectly Beautiful by Diony George

Enter to win a $100 Amazon gift card or Paypal cash!

Imperfectly Beautiful by Diony George

At 1:30 am, in New York City, Regan Wright is ripped out of a sound sleep with a jolt – her heart thuds in her ears and her face feels flushed. Straining to hear anything out of the ordinary, she fumbles to turn on the bedside lamp. Nothing seems out of place. Suddenly her stomach twists in knots – it’s her identical twin, Rebecca. Something is terribly wrong…

Though twins, Rebecca and Regan couldn’t be more different.

Independent and outspoken, Regan chose a high-profile career as a fashion designer in New York City. Despite her hard-earned success, Regan’s become disillusioned by the glamour and the glitz. She’s tired of coming home to a lonely penthouse apartment welcomed only by her cat and has all but given up on ever finding “Mr. Right.”

Steady and reliable, Rebecca chose to be a wife and stay-at-home mom. From the very first moment she met James Conrad—tall and muscular with eyes as blue as a cloudless sky—she was captivated. Married and four children later, Rebecca’s life is not what she expected. Her marriage has lost its shine and her sweet babies have become challenging and often unappreciative children.

Both Rebecca and Regan must discover, a higher power has the answers to what matters most, but when a serial killer strikes nearby, and his victims look eerily similar to the twins, will it be too late?

Praise for Imperfectly Beautiful

“5 Stars! Great Novel-Romance with Suspense. Captures your attention from the very beginning…then difficult to put down…A good solid read!”

-Booklover, amazon review

“This was a great book. I could relate to Rebecca and the trials she was going through with her marriage and her children. I feel this way at times too. I liked the suspense and it was enough to keep my hooked…”

-K. Neilson, Utah

“I enjoyed the development of the characters. Lots of dialogue took me right into the everyday lives and struggles of each person. The underlying story of the unsolved murders of women who look like the twin sisters simmers through out the chapters until it finally boils over into an exciting ending! I recommend it!”

-J.T. Bolla, Washington
