Welcome the Amazing Sara York!
Hi Everyone, I’m Sara York and I’m so grateful that Ethan has agreed to let me take over his blog for the day. My new book Pray The Gay Away is out now. Yea! It’s a fun, cute, serious, and sexy look at the lives of two teens who fall in love but their families want to keep them apart because…they are gay. Yes, the extremely conservative town of Sweet, Georgia isn’t ready for two teen boys and they certainly aren’t ready for the star quarterback to be gay.
I fell in love with Jack and Andrew and little Billy as I was writing this story. Billy Miller kind of surprised me as I was writing. Billy is Jack’s younger brother, sweet as can be, and very gay. Jack will do anything to keep Billy safe, even giving up part of his life. But when Andrew shows up in town, Jack wants Andrew so much that he takes risks, exposing his love for men to one of the most dangerous people in town, his father.
Here’s a little bit of interaction between Jack, Andrew, and Billy. I hope you enjoy.
~~~
“Hey.” Andrew leaned against the driver’s side door, his arms crossed over his chest. He looked amazingly cool and sexy as hell.
“If we weren’t at school right now, I’d kiss you.”
“I haven’t had a good kiss from you in a few days. I really need one.”
Andrew walked around the truck and opened the passenger door. Jack watched him move, smiling when Andrew winked as he pulled the seat belt across his body. Billy would want to sit between them. It wouldn’t be like the other night when Ed hitched a ride. He wished he had a reason to sit next to Andrew.
“The people you’re staying with. They are nice to you, right?”
“Yep. This morning she made me pancakes and eggs. I think they know my parents were keeping food from me.”
“How do you feel about that?”
“I don’t know. It’s embarrassing. But Cole, the man, he’s really nice. He spent an hour last night chatting with me. Nothing deep, just asking if I liked sports. I told him I didn’t know much about any sports but that you played football. He pulled out a scrapbook and showed me photos from when he was a kid. The dude played football and basketball. He was in the Navy and told me stories of life on the ship. He’s really nice.”
“Wow, they sound cool.”
“I don’t know how long I’ll be there.”
“I’m here for you. No matter what, I’ll always be there for you.”
They picked up Billy, who started asking questions before they even had him strapped in. He asked about the sun, the moon, and stars then started asking about the buildings they were driving past.
“Which store are we going to?” Billy asked.
“I was thinking about Wal-Mart.”
“Nope, they don’t have good costumes there. Try the Brennan’s. I was there with Mom the other day.”
“Okay, we’ll try there.”
Brennan’s was the local party supply store. They had a few costumes, but he wasn’t sure how many costumes they’d have that were acceptable. Billy wanted something that a girl would wear. His dad would freak out. His brothers and sisters would tease Billy and in the end, Billy would end up unhappy. He had to find a way to steer Billy down a different path.
He parked his truck and opened the door, hopping down quickly because he expected Billy to want help getting out on his side. Billy was holding Andrew’s hand and requesting that Andrew help him. Jack hoped Andrew liked Billy. Soon, he’d need to tell Andrew about his plans. He hadn’t thought of it before, but what if Andrew didn’t want any kids.
They entered the store and Billy ran, dragging Andrew behind him, back to the costume area. He pulled out a beautiful dress that was near white but shimmered in the fluorescence above and turned blue and pink depending on how the light hit it. Andrew smiled and bent to touch the fabric.
“Wow, that is beautiful.”
“Do ya’ like it? Really like it?” Billy asked.
“I do. I’d love to have a dress like that.” Andrew laid the dress over his arm, looking at the details. “I love the stitching here. It’s so pretty.”
“Jack, can I get it? Andrew thinks it pretty.”
He froze as two pairs of hopeful eyes stared up at him. Doom and failure were chasing him down. They would drag him to the ground and run over him, destroying any hope he had of escaping this shopping trip unscathed.
“Billy, I like the dress, but Daddy won’t let you wear it.”
Billy stuck out his lower lip and his shoulders slumped. “But you said I could buy whatever I wanted.”
“I said I would find you something we could all agree on.”
“I want this dress.” Billy’s voice had risen with each word and Jack feared the boy was going to have a meltdown.
