Inspiration or Manifestation?

My novel, Again, began as a dream. Sounds cliche, but that really is how it happened. From that point the story begged to be written, and I had plenty of inspiration along the way, most notably songs. Two songs that kept playing on the radio for a period of time, before I finally dug out my CD, were from Journey. To this day, when I hear the songs, I can't help but to smile. It is as if the songs were written for Eryn from Jonathan. Here's the chorus from Separate Ways. Makes me think about when Eryn first has her own dream:

Someday love will find you
Break those chains that bind you
One night will remind you
How we touched and went our separate ways

If he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
You know I still love you
Though we touched and went our separate ways.

The second song, Faithfully, was another one that hit home, and helped me create Eryn's world. Here is the second verse:

Circus life under the big-top world
We all need the clowns to make us smile
Through space and time
Always another shore
Wonderin' where I am
Lost without you
And bein' apart ain't easy on this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy of rediscoverin' you
Oh girl, you stand by me
I'm forever yours, Faithfully.

These songs were definitely mood setters for my writing as were a few others, and whether they found me or I found them, it matters not, because it's all good, it all worked. I find my best ideas comes from listening to music. In fact, the song Chasing Pavements, by Adele, helped me write a scene for my next novel.

I'd venture to bet I'm not alone in this. I mean, who is immune to the emotional tide that sweeps us away with music? Yeah, it's all good.
