New Release After the Moon Rises by Karilyn Bentley
I'm excited to let you know that my werewolf anthology, After the Moon Rises, is now available on Kindle! After the Moon Rises features two novellas, Werewolves in London and Wolf Mates, two stories about the Flying Fur Dude Ranch werewolf pack.
Blurbs:
Werewolves in London:
Werewolf Vonda Diaz has sworn off men, until she meets sexy rancher, Tom McGowan. Try as she might there is something about him she can’t ignore. Determined to keep their relationship professional she finds herself unable to keep her distance. Since his wife died, Tom has no interest in dating, but one look at Vonda and passion ignites. There is something different about her that draws him in. What he can’t understand is why his dog finds her so fascinating. When Tom’s daughter is kidnapped, the two join forces to save her, not realizing the quest will unlock hidden mysteries. Will their budding love survive the secrets they discover or will those secrets tear them apart?
Wolf Mates:
Margie McLean loves her life just the way it is. As the single Alpha of the London, Montana pack, she leads her wolves and makes her own decisions. When she stumbles upon an injured wolf she has no idea that her quiet life is about to take a dramatic turn.
Zane Moskos never imagined that the mission his tryranical alpha sent him on would lead him to his mate. Now he is faced with the choice of defying the man who holds his sister hostage or losing the woman that fate has decreed is his.
In order to save his sister and gain his freedom, Zane must convince Margie he can be trusted. Can they work together or will the passion they feel overwhelm them both?

LOOKING BACK AND REACHING FORWARD - by Kathy Ivan
As we come to the end of 2013, I want to take a moment to look back at this year and what we've accomplished. As a group, the Plotting Princesses has grown, not only in size, adding a few new members, but also in our social media outreach. We have the blog site (of course we do, here you are visiting with us). We have the Facebook page, the Pinterest page, and we've even started a marketing branch of the Princesses, to help with promoting books the Princesses are writing. We've even got our own street team, "THE COURT."
Each Princesses continued writing throughout 2013, sending work out to agents and editors. Some entered contests. Many Princesses had multiple books come out, with more available next year.
As authors, we believe in what we do. We love writing, telling stories. We love sharing those stories with you, the readers, hoping and praying with each word we write you will become engrossed within our storytelling and when you finish the book, you'll smile and say, "Yes, I loved it. Let me see what else this author has out there." That is the biggest compliment you can pay an author, letting him or her know you enjoyed the book they've poured hours and hours toiling over with blood, sweat and tears. (As a side note, I'd like to suggest that if you like a book, post a review. It can be on Amazon, Goodreads, B & N, wherever you're comfortable posting one. Word of mouth is the best way to let others know about new and upcoming authors they may not have previously read. Yes, people do read reviews and buy based on them. It's also a small way of saying thanks to an author who has brought a few hours of enjoyment into your life. Okay I'll get off my soapbox now. LOL)
We dream big. Hopefully we'll have new and exciting things happening in 2014 and you can come on the ride with the Princesses as we continue growing, writing, and generally having a great time spreading the word that reading and writing romance is fun.
Our wish for 2014 is that you have a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year and may all your dreams come true. I'll be aiming high, shooting for the stars, and continuing to write, because I love it and I know if I dream it and believe it, everything I wish for will come true. And since I'm the one writing this post, I'm going to add a personal note here: From now through December 31, 2013, books 1 and 2 in the Destiny's Desire Series are on sale (at Amazon.com) for $0.99 each. So if you haven't read the first two books in this series, here's your chance to get both books at a great price.

Plotting Princesses ~ guest author Terri Rochenski of superb historical: Alone No More.
The Plotting Princesses welcome Terri Rochenski! Hey, Terri: let's get this party goin' with some questions. How did you get from your day job to writing romance? My day job ended when baby #1 was born. I drove back into writing due to the fact that I lived in the middle of no-where-land, NH, 20 minutes away from the nearest store. What are your three favorite books of all time? Oh boy. I’ve been asked this many times & I’m sure I answered differently each one. I’m going to cheat since I can only think of series – Wheel of Time (Robert Jordan), anything by Lisa Kleypas and Roni Loren.
Morning, afternoon, or evening person? Morning. I struggle to keep my eyes open after 9pm.
Music--with or without? What kind? When writing, without. While in the car/working around the house it would be Bryan Adams, Bruno Mars, Rascal Flatts, or classical.
First or third POV? I enjoy reading both as long as they’re written well. I’ve done & enjoyed both.
How's tricks? Do you juggle multiple projects? I’m a one-story-at-a-time kinda gal. My brain can only handle so much!
What's harder: beginning, middle, or the end? Beginning!!
Revisions: Love 'em or hate 'em? I don’t mind them, but the line editing is what I hate.
Best advice anybody every gave you? To never quit – keep subbing!
Fill in this blank: My ideal fictional hero would think me gorgeous no matter…That my hair is in a bun & I have no makeup on.
What's your favorite dessert? I can only choose one?!? Hot fudge sundae.
Blurb for Alone No More: Dismissed from her job as a scullery maid and cast aside by her lover, pregnant Cara Morland has no choice but to return to her father’s farm. While lies of widowhood keep her from disgrace, Cara is faced with a local landowner’s unwanted attentions and loses hope of ever finding happiness. A friendship blossoms between Cara and James Elliot, a young farm hand hired by her father, who offers his protection. One shared kiss reveals his heart, but propriety and her feigned grieving period hinders what they both desire. When Cara’s stalker learns the truth of her circumstances, he gives her an ultimatum—submit to his possession or he’ll ruin her second chance at love with James.

Michelle Miles: Christmas Goodies
I love to bake, especially around Christmas. I like making special treats and then packaging them up and giving them away (much to the dismay of my husband – who loves the treats as much as I do. But hey, if I didn’t give them away, we’d be 300 pounds!). Anyway…this year I decided I was going to be proactive and start baking ahead of time. That way I wouldn’t kill myself the week before Christmas trying to get it all done. I’d been reading up on how to freeze cookie dough and baked cookies. I had no idea it could be done. But I discovered that most cookie dough can be frozen for up to 3 months before baking. Cookie dough that freezes well: chocolate chip, sugar, peanut butter. I also have this recipe for chocolate crackle cookies. You have to refrigerate the dough for a certain amount of time before baking. I ran out of time that day and ended up freezing the dough. I made the cookies the following weekend then froze the cookies in Ziploc containers. You put wax paper between each layer and it’s wonderful and beautiful.
So far I’ve made about 6 dozen cookies. I also made these wonderful pecan cranberry tassies. Four dozen of them. They came out SUPER good. Since I made them ahead of time, I was able to freeze them too. Next I’m making sugar cookies and cranberry walnut oatmeal cookies. I’ll make those fresh, though, and then package them all up.
By the time I’m finished, I will have made about 12 dozen cookies plus the 4 dozen tassies. I’m also going to make and freeze mini New York Cheesecakes. This is an experiment as I’ve never tried it before. I found these mini graham cracker crusts, though, that I’m dying to try. I hope they come out. I’m going to get some strawberries and slice them to put on top. And yes, those will most likely be gifts too (don’t worry, honey, I’ll save you one).
I’ve found that baking and giving treats as gifts are always well-received. It’s a personal, thoughtful gift.
What about you? Do you enjoy giving (and getting) baked goods for Christmas?

What’s in a powerful opening line? Everything. Tone. Voice. Character. The promise of the story. Everything. Example: I only need to repeat the phrase, Call me Ishmael, and you will automatically breathe salty air, feel wet wooden deck beneath your feet, and visualize the irascible Captain Ahab and an illusive whale named Moby Dick. First lines tell us whether we’re sitting down to a fudge brownie sundae, or a lobster slathered in lemon butter.
Like most readers, before I consider buying a book, I peruse the first lines. If the author doesn’t have me at hello, they won’t have me ever.
Here are three of my favorite opening lines:
There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.
– THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER / C. S. Lewis
Bartholomew Lampion was blinded at the age of three, when surgeons reluctantly removed his eyes to save him from a fast-spreading cancer; but although eyeless, Barty regained his sight when he was thirteen.
– OUT OF THE CORNER OF HIS EYE / Dean Koontz
On the second Thursday of the month, Mrs. Dombrowski brings her dead husband to our therapy group.
– STORYTELLER / Jodi Picoult #1 bestseller of 2013
Strong first lines really are reader candy. If there is a chocolaty, taste-bud -extravaganza in the first few lines, I’m sold. Why? Because those first lines convince me there will be more deliciousness deep inside the book.
Share your favorite opening lines with us. We'd love to hear.
Here are some yummy first lines from the Plotting Princesses for you to sample:
DESPERATE CHOICES / Kathy IvanShe should have locked the door.Theresa Crawford watched the man close the door behind him with a firm but solid click. Big trouble—she could sense it. Darkness radiated from him in waves.

MORTAL DECEPTION / Lizabeth LippermanBefore the night ends, I’m going to have sex with a total stranger. Oh, God. Taking a deep breath Dani Perez walked toward the hotel bar, her red stilettos clattering like a Riverdanceaudition on the black marble floor.

A KNIGHT TO REMEMBER / Michelle MilesHenry Chase knew someone kept a watchful gaze on him even while he feigned sleep. A chill ran through him, making all the hairs on the back of his neck stand at attention and his scalp tingle. He scented the soft aroma of something decidedly feminine in the stale air of the hotel room. Releases Jan 14, 2014 from Ellora's Cave
THE FRENCH DECEPTION / Linda StienbergLate! Paul Bernard dashed out of the Metro station and bolted up rue de Faubourg de St Honore toward the British Embassy, holding his jacket over his head to ward off the light morning mist. Just as he got to the corner the traffic light changed. Bloody hell!

WARRIOR LOVER / Karilyn Bentley“How much?” Lily pushed two paintings across the wooden countertop and tried to slow the tripping thumps her heart passed off as beats. HONEYMOON FOR ONE / Chris Keniston How the heck does anyone walk on these things?” Michelle mumbled, doing her best to strut down the hall. LADY FIASCO / Kathleen Baldwin

Are you looking for a holiday baked goods recipe that’s different from the rest? Jamey Tucker and Heather Longhurst, the hero and heroine of SANTA TO THE RESCUE, decided to kick off the holidays with Margarita Cupcakes for the Appleton Fire Station firefighters. These decidedly untraditional, but delicious, cakes were such a holiday hit that Jamey and Heather decided to make them every year.
You and your family might enjoy these fun confections too. Here’s the recipe, courtesy of Sauza® Tequila. Posted with permission.
Margarita Cupcakes:
Ingredients:
2 sticks butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs, plus 1 large egg white as room temperature
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
2 ¾ cups all purpose flour
2 ½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
¾ cup plus 2 tbsp. whole milk
2 tbsp. fresh lime juice
½ tsp. vanilla
Zest of 3 limes
Ingredients for the frosting:
1 stick butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar
2 tbsp. Sauza® Blue Reposado 100% Agave Tequila*
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. fresh lime juice AND zest of 2 limes
To Make: Preheat your oven to 350° degrees. Line 2 cupcake pans with baking liners. Using an electric mixer, beat 2 sticks butter and the granulated sugar until creamy. Gradually beat in the eggs, egg white and oil.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. In a glass measuring cup, stir together the milk, 2 tbsp. lime juice and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix in one-third of the wet mixture to the butter mixture, then one-third of the dry mixture. Repeat until it is all combined, but do not over mix. Mix in the lime zest.
Fill each cupcake liner about three-quarters full with batter. (I like to use an ice cream scoop to fill the cups). Bake 25 minutes or until the cupcakes spring back when gently poked. Let cool completely before icing.
While the cupcakes cool, make the icing. With an electric mixer, beat the remaining 1 stick butter until creamy. Beat in 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, 2 tbsp. Sauza® Blue Reposado, 2 tbsp. lime juice, ½ teaspoon vanilla, and lime peel and 1 teaspoon salt until smooth and creamy. Beat in the remaining 1 ½ cups confectioners’ sugar one-third at a time until just soft enough to spread.
Spread the frosting on the cooled cupcakes. Be creative: top each cupcake with a piece of lime zest or sprinkle with sanding sugar, or put a wedge or round of lime or a lime wedge candy on top. If you want you can add a drop of green food coloring to the frosting, too. For more Sauza® Tequila recipes, visit http://us.sauzatequila.com/

When Jamey meets beautiful pediatric nurse Heather Longhurst after hearing her sing Santa Baby in a supermarket aisle, he makes her a promise he later discovers he can’t keep. Determined to find a way to make amends, Jamey uses firefighter engine-uity and Heather’s favorite song to prove he’s got Christmas spirit she can believe in all year.
