Uber Under Attack for Sexism, Running Red Lights, Stealing Google’s Technology
*
*
Uber faces attacks on multiple fronts. For starters, Susan Fowler, a reliability engineer, unleashed a firestorm with a 3,000-word document describing multiple instances of sexual harassment over the course of a year. Next, Uber’s credibility is at stake after one of its self-driving vehicles ran a red light. Uber claimed a human was at the wheel, but it turns out Uber lied. Finally, Uber also has to deal with a Google lawsuit regarding stolen technology.
Uber faces attacks on multiple fronts.
For starters, Susan Fowler, a reliability engineer, unleashed a firestorm with a 3,000-word document describing multiple instances of sexual harassment over the course of a full year, starting with a first-day proposition from her manager.
Next, Uber’s credibility is at stake after one of its self-driving vehicles ran a red light. Uber claimed a human was at the wheel, but it turns out Uber lied.
Finally, Uber also has to deal with a Google lawsuit regarding stolen technology.

Glyphosate Contaminants In Processed Brand Name Foods
By Catherine J. Frompovich | Activist Post
Glyphosate is the main chemical active in several brands of agricultural and corporate farming herbicides used in the growing fields; in GMO seed crop cultures; and in what’s called “preharvest staging” [1]. That’s when the herbicide is sprayed several days [3 to 5 days] prior to crop harvest to “ensure” seed heads mature evenly. Some consider that process acts as a “desiccant.”
The more commonly-used herbicide is Roundup® manufactured by Monsanto. In GMO farming, there is Roundup Ready® seeds, which are totally different from heirloom or non-GMO seeds. One specific difference is GMO seeds have patents on them, meaning something has been done to modify the seed from the parent or original plant strain produced by Nature. . .

China warns its citizens about radiation levels in Japan. Funny the US and its allies aren’t more concerned about their own citizens.

Blackwater Heads to China
*
*
Late last year Frontier Services Group (Blackwater found Erik Prince’s new company) put out a press release in which they boasted of their new corporate strategy: Cashing in on the Chinese government’s trillion dollar “New Silk Road” gamble.
OK, OK, not Blackwater. That’s the mercenary force of convicted war criminals founded by Erik Prince that will never outrun its infamy no matter it .
No, no, no! Not Blackwater! It’s Frontier Services Group—an entirely different mercenary group chaired by Erik Prince—that is heading to China! And they’re not there to sell mercenary services! Absolutely not. They’re merely opening some “forward operating bases” to help the Chinese train “ex-” PLA soldiers how to be mercenaries! It’s entirely different!
Now that we have that clear, some context: Erik Prince is the notorious mercenary who believes he’s the modern-day descendant of “Wild Bill” Donovan. (Prince even named his youngest son, Charles Donovan Prince, after Bill.) Prince’s budding career as a contract killer went down in flames in 2009 after it was revealed that Blackwater was a front for…

US Forces Trying to Evacuate ISIS Commanders from Iraq’s Tal Afar
Commander of Asa’eb al-Haq Movement affiliated to Iraqi popular forces of Hashd al-Shaabi said that the US forces have been trying hard to evacuate ISIL commanders from the besieged city of Tal Afar West of Mosul.
After photos surfaced in the media displaying US forces assisting ISIS terrorists, Javad al-Talaybawi said that the Americans are planning to take ISIL commanders away from Tal Afar that is under the Iraqi forces’ siege.
In the meantime, member of Iraqi Parliament’s Security and Defense Commission Iskandar Watut called for a probe into photos and footages displaying US planes airdropping aid packages over ISIL-held regions.
Watut further added that we have witnessed several times that US planes dropped packages of food stuff, arms and other necessary items over ISIL-held regions, and called on Iraq’s air defense to watch out the US-led coalition planes.

Fukushima: A Lurking Global Catastrophe? Tragedy at the Olympics 2020?
*

The world watches in horror as the Abe administration dresses up Fukushima Prefecture for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Who in their right mind would hold Olympics in the neighborhood of three out-of-control nuclear meltdowns that could get worse, worse, and still worse?
Fukushima: A Lurking Global Catastrophe?
by Robert Hunziker / February 19th, 2017
Year over year, ever since 2011, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear meltdown grows worse and worse, an ugly testimonial to the inherent danger of generating electricity via nuclear fission, which produces isotopes, some of the most deadly poisonous elements on the face of the planet.
Fukushima Diiachi has been, and remains, one of the world’s largest experiments; i.e., what to do when all hell breaks lose aka The China Syndrome.
Scientists still don’t have all the information they need for a cleanup that the government estimates will take four decades and cost ¥8 trillion. It is not yet known if the fuel melted into or through the containment vessel’s concrete floor, and determining the fuel’s radioactivity and location is crucial to inventing the technology to remove the melted fuel.1
As it happens, “inventing technology” is experimental stage stuff…

Human Nature: Genetic or Cultural?
The Social Conquest of Earth
By Edward O Wilson
Liveright (2013)
Book Review
The Social Conquest of Earth is a book dedicated to an examination of human nature. Through an extensive review of scientific, anthropological, psychological and sociological research, it attempts to determine whether “human nature” is mainly genetically or culturally (ie environmentally) determined. The answer Wilson comes up with is surprising. He concludes that the social traits that make us human are mainly culturally based with only a minor genetic contribution.
In my view, these findings have profound implications regarding our ability to do away with capitalism and the state and govern ourselves.
The book’s primary focus is the “eusocial” nature of human behavior. By definition, a euosocial species is one that forms groups consisting of multiple generations in which members are prone to altruistic acts (eg acts in which they sacrifice themselves for the good of the group). Wilson uses his own extensive research into the genetic evolution of eusocial insects (eg ants, bees, wasps and termites) to inform his conclusions about the limited genetic role in “human nature.” I personally find his arguments quite convincing.
My favorite part of the book is where he demolishes Noam Chomsky’s theory of all language having a universal, genetically based grammar (see Sticking it to Chomsky).
I was also intrigued by the extensive research suggesting that our color perception is culturally rather than genetically based. Anthropological research suggests that human ability to recognize different colors depends on whether your native language has specific words differentiating them. Some indigenous groups have no words for different colors and can only identify them as “black” or “white.”
Research findings are consistent across a broad range of linguistic groups. Wilson cites a study by Berlin and Kay showing that the 2-11 colors identified in various societies are consistent across linguistic groups:
Cultures with only 2 color terms identify black and white.
Cultures with only 3 color terms identify black, white and red.
Cultures with only 4 color terms identify black, white, red and either green or yellow.
Cultures with only 5 color terms identify black, white, red, green and yellow.
Cultures with only 6 color terms identify black, white, red, green, yellow and blue.
Cultures with only 7 color terms identify black, white, red, green, yellow, blue and brown.
Cultures with 11 color terms (such as English) identify black, white, red, green, yellow, blue, brown, purple, pink, orange and gray.

A Critique of Moore’s 10-Point Plan
*
*
I can’t for the life of me imagine why Moore is seeking to deflect all the massive protest energy that’s being generated on removing Trump – when it should be focused on dismantling capitalism. What he’s proposing in another words is another faux color revolution like the CIA-sponsored Arab Spring revolutions – that removed sitting leaders like Mubarak – but left ordinary people worse off than ever in terms of human rights and social justice.
Michael Moore recently released his 10-Point Plan to Stop Trump. Since it has already been shared over 20,000 times on social media, I feel compelled to respond.
1). Moore writes as if all these problems began the moment Trump was inaugurated. By saying we simply need to “stop Trump” – we focus on one person as opposed to the larger structures of racism, heteropatriarchy, and capitalism. Trump is just the most visible and visceral representative of an oppressive system. Even if Trump has a “much-shortened presidential term,” we are still left with an oppressive apparatus.
2). Moore argues that we need to make daily phone calls to legislators because “Democrats need to hear from the boss – you!” I mean, sure, that sounds nice. But this is only true if we pretend that corporate funding, the electoral college, and voter disenfranchisement do not exist.
Let’s be honest: making phone…

NATO’s “Success” in Libya, ISIS Replaces Gaddafi
*
*
The Libyan Army retook Sirte from ISIS last December, and hopes to repeat the task elsewhere, with aid from Libya’s external friends i.e., the US and Russia. Until that happens, the country will remain a failed state on every single level of governance, providing groups like ISIS to regain strength and find in the Libyan youth a huge stock to recruit from.
Third week of February marked 6th anniversary of ‘popular’ up-rising in Libya that ultimately led to the overthrow of Gaddafi regime. Thanks to NATO’s intervention and the chaos it left behind, today’s Libya lies in ruins, over-run by a multitude of militias and the self-styled Islamic State. While NATO intervention itself was a drastic failure, as we had previously reported, its aftermath has turned out to be even more devastating, forcing the country to descend into utter chaos. What was previously a reasonably stable Libya is today a picture of extreme debilitation where power cuts are routine, water shortage is acute, inflation rate is sky high and a liquidity crisis is looming large. Not to forget that the country does not have a central government and is being run by a militia whose authority and legitimacy is openly challenged by rival factions.
Could there be a better context…

These 16 Restaurants Have the MOST Antibiotics in Their Meat
*
*
The CDC estimates that at least two million Americans contract antibiotic-resistant infections every year. The American Academy of Pediatrics explained that the overuse of antibiotics in animals can make bacteria such as salmonella, E. coli and Campylobacter stronger and resistant to drugs that were previously able to ward them off.

A collaborative new report recently ranked the 25 largest US fast food and causal restaurant chains based on their policies and practices when it comes to antibiotics in their food. For the second year in a row, Panera Bread and Chipotle Mexican Grill were the only two chains to score an A grade.
The following restaurant chains received F grades in antibiotic practices:
1. KFC
2. Dunkin’ Donuts
3. Sonic
4. Olive Garden
5. Denny’s
6. Starbucks
7. Jack In The Box
8. Burger King
9. Applebees
10. Domino’s Pizza
11. Chilli’s
12. Little Caesars
13. Buffalo Wild Wings
14. Dairy Queen
15. Arby’s
16. IHOP
