Antitrust Policy in a Free Society

The primary concern of political economy is the appropriate role of government in social affairs. The debate, in brief, is whether the economy should be left free to establish a “spontaneous order,” or whether government regulation is necessary to maintain efficiency and economic welfare. Some liberals, most conservatives, and all libertarians would argue that government regulation of industry generally tends to reduce efficiency and economic growth and should be avoided. Since the late 1950s, a...

Night for Day or Day for Night in the Heart of Darkness

“I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguish’d, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth
Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air”
– Lord Byron, “Darkness”

Overheard in a coffee shop: A woman and a man are sitting together at a table.  She with a laptop open before her and he with a coffee and a book.  Looking at the screen, she says to him, “I didn’t know that the solar eclipse lasts for 70 to 80 minutes, ...

Why Debt Serfdom Is Not Prosperity

The recent news that US home prices in December were up by 6.1% on a Y/Y basis is just one more reminder of why the Fed’s pro-inflation policies are so insidious. In essence, they set up a running battle between asset prices and wages, and the former wins hands down.

For avoidance of doubt, here is the long view on the matter:

Index of Median Home Price Versus Average Hourly Wage, 1970 to 2023

We have indexed the median sales price of homes in America and the average hourly wage to their values...

Facing Nuclear War

P. Dutton has just published a startling book by Annie Jacobsen titled Nuclear War: A Scenario.

The “scenario,” as she describes it in an Author’s Note, begins with a nuclear strike on the Pentagon, a “Bolt out of the Blue” that the U.S. Nuclear Command and Control System (NCCS) calls an “unwarned large [nuclear] attack.”

Annie Jacobsen next identifies 47 people she interviewed for the book—nuclear scientists, people who formerly held NCCS positions, and different U.S. policymakers. They includ...

It’s Time To Purchase Your Sacred Heart Flag for June

Christ is risen! Tomorrow is Easter Friday as well as First Friday, when we promote the heart and soul of our organisation, the Crusade of Eucharistic Reparation. We are also two months out from June, the month of the Sacred Heart, which a particularly important month for our editorial stance, which is “unite the clan to rebuild Christendom.”

The heart and soul of Christendom is the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus.

And thus the heart and soul of OnePeterFive is the Crusade of Eucharistic Reparation.

Biden the Apostate

St. Augustine once commented on the distinction between the heavenly city and the Earthly city, writing, “Two cities have been formed by two loves: the earthly by the love of self, even to the contempt of God; and the heavenly by the love of God, even to the contempt of self. The former, in a word, glories in itself, the latter in the Lord. For the one seeks glory from men; but the greatest glory of the other is God, the witness of our conscience.”

Look no further for an illustration of this phr...

The Importance of RSS Feeds

In an era dominated by social media algorithms and curated news feeds, the humble RSS feed often finds itself relegated to the sidelines, dismissed as a relic of the internet’s past.

However, far from being outdated and irrelevant, RSS feeds actually remain one of the most powerful tools for staying informed in the digital age. It is likely they have been intentionally deemphasized because they are a legitimate threat to those in power as they allow you to circumvent media censorship.

RSS, or R...

America’s Foreign Aid Ponzi Scheme

The US pays upwards of $70 billion annually to other countries in the form of ‘aid’.   The Top two are Ukraine and Israel.   While the amounts are small, the US also sends money called ‘aid’ to France, Norway, and Tuvalu…   Tuvalu?   Tuvalu is an archipelago off the coast of Australia that boasts pristine beaches and diving.  Technically, it is owned by Britain and the Crown – although on the books it is independent, like Australia.  It’s population is 11,300 and in 2022, we sent them $200,000. ...
