Another Ronslide

ConservativeHQ, run by Ron Paul-critic and direct-mail pioneer Richard Vigurie, reports the results of its straw poll:

Ron 37%

Herm 28%

Newt 11%

Rick 7%

Michele 6%

Mitt 4%

Gary 1%

I am sure that these results have nothing to do with a change in the poll. Now it will be for "members" only. (Thanks to Brad Funkhouser)

Why Herman?

Writes Jezebel:

"He peppers his speech with inscrutable metaphors and has terrible ideas, and yet, he's still among the GOP frontrunners. This guy can't be serious. Can he? We try to get to the bottom of what's really behind Cain's rapid ascent on the Good Ship WTF."

'What GOP Foreign Policy Debate?'

Of course, Politico plays down the one dissident, the one peace candidate, and the one reason there is a debate, Ron Paul.

The Media Blackout

Writes Brent Budowsky in The Hill:

"I am glad that Ron Paul raised between $2 million and $3 million from his super-bomb tied to the news blackout against him. On this, I agree with Ron Paul, very strongly. I have certainly not blacked out Ron Paul, and while his supporters like some of my columns and not other columns, I have always tried to give him the attention he deserves, and explore various aspects of his philosophy, especially some commonalities between Ron and Occupy Wall Street on certain issues.

"It is amazing that Paul, who has serious ideas and a serious following, has received comparatively little attention compared to, say, Donald Trump. He is right about this, and I am glad he raised money in response to this."

The Principled Consistency of Ron Paul

Writes Jim Picht in the Washington Times:

"Ron Paul is a consistent man. He's been preaching the same economic gospel for two generations, a gospel based on the teachings of economists Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises, leavened by the objectivism of Ayn Rand. He's been convinced for decades of the dangers of fiat money (money backed only by confidence in the government that creates it), the supreme importance of the individual, the primacy of personal liberty as a political principle, and a laissez faire approach to the economy.

"Paul believes and says the same things now that he said 40 years ago, but that's a minor type of consistency. People learn and change over the decades, and that's usually praiseworthy, not a sign of moral weakness. If Paul came to political and economic principles 40 years ago that are as true and bright to him today as they were then, that's fine, but that's not what's admirable or important about his consistency.

"What's important about Paul is that his ideas are ideologically consistent. They spring from a set of principles, and he's not afraid to let his ideas go where his principles take them.

"Ron Paul has the courage of his convictions." Read the whole article.
