Live Well to 100

A lot of thoughts running through my mind today………. After reading Charles Hugh Smith’s stratagem that reveals only those who are recipients of interest payments on debt are truly wealthy while everyone else is an interest-payer who contributes to the free lunch the financial classes enjoy.

Debt serfdom is what Charles Hugh Smith calls it.  Only about 4% of Americans are recipients of most of the interest payments.  Nine of ten Americans will predictably be shoved into serfdom and begging for...

Is Europe Committing Suicide?

A couple of days ago, I saw TV footage of the outspoken Labour MP Jess Phillips on the campaign trail, seeking re-election in her suburban Birmingham constituency.

She was asked which issues voters mentioned most often on the doorstep. Ms. Phillips did not miss a beat.

Immigration comes up…’ she said thoughtfully. And then, as if remembering herself, she started talking about bin collections instead.

A few years ago, I was at a lunch in London, sitting next to the former editor of a national...

10 Crazy Conspiracy Theories

Generally speaking, conspiracy theories form where there is a vacuum of verifiable facts associated with a controversial, usually tragic event. The concept has evolved over the years and is a part of our popular culture. There are legions of conspiracy theorists and “truthers” who have devoted their lives to certain theories, and there are legions of skeptics who have devoted their lives to debunking those theories. All the while, conspiracy theories of every stripe and variety festoon the fo...

Everybody’s Freaked

Just under two weeks since the emergency at the Hanford nuclear facility in Washington state (following a tunnel collapse), NBC’s local affiliate King5 reports Hanford’s owner, The U.S. Department of Energy, is scrambling to deal with a second emergency – signs have emerged that a massive underground double shell nuclear waste holding tank may be leaking.

The tank is known as AZ 101 and was put into service in 1976. The tank’s life was expected to be 20 years. Now it has been holding hot, boi...

What’s Inside the World’s First Analog Computer?

Every time ancient Greece is mentioned most people automatically think of democracy, the Olympic Games, mythology and philosophy. It seems that not many are aware of how advanced the ancient Greeks were on a technological level as well and the Antikythera Mechanism, known as the world’s first analog computer, is the brightest example of all.

Google Commemorates the Discovery of the World’s First Computer

On May 17 of 1902, when Greek archaeologist Valerios Stais was discovering a corroded chu...

Gold Shorts

The most expensive investment anyone can buy today is paper gold. For $1,260, an investor will get a piece of paper saying he owns 1 ounce of gold. But he is unlikely to ever see that gold. Firstly, most investors who buy paper gold have no understanding of the real reason for holding gold and will therefore never contemplate taking delivery. And even if he did understand the importance of holding real gold, he is quite happy to hold the surrogate alternative which is paper rather than physic...

India’s Totalitarian War on Cash

India Reverts to its Irrational, Tribal Normal (Part XIII)

Over the three years in which Narendra Modi has been in power, his support base has continued to increase. Indian institutions — including the courts and the media — now toe his line.

The President, otherwise a ceremonial rubber-stamp post, but the last obstacle keeping Modi from implementing a police state, comes up for re-election by a vote of the legislative houses in July 2017.  No one should be surprised if a Hindu fanatic is mad...

Political Theatre, RIP

Thanks to all the loyal readers of this blog--and to such wonderful contributors as Travis Holte and Brad Funkhouser--but the time has come for me to put it out of its misery. I started PT to concentrate on the Ron Paul campaign, but now that that campaign is over, and all that lies ahead is the boring tragedy of Tampa, there is no reason for me to have a separate blog. This is not to take away from Ron's magnificent personal achievements in his campaign, of course, which have been legion. And I will still comment on the corrupt election games that revolve around Rombama, but on the LRC Blog. Oh, and don't vote.
