A Work Day in Front of a Computer Monitor

Sensationalized news reports about theoretical radiation health hazards posed by electronic devices like cell phones, computer monitors and electric power lines often alarm the public for no reason other than attracting readers or viewers.  The reported experiments involve doses of radiation far beyond what users of electronic devices are exposed to.  Or the experiments are performed with lab animals or cells in a lab dish, hardly real world environments.

However, a recently published study s...

2 Minor Technical Revisions of the Tax Code

Every ideologically driven citizen has one law that he would like to see enacted. The trouble is, there is no agreement about which law it should be.

We all have our favorite hobby horse, our recommended silver bullet.

I suggested two laws on Lew Rockwell’s site back in May 2000. It was the first article by me that he posted. Since then, he has posted about 1,700 more. The site no longer numbers them, so I am not sure how many. The article was titled, “Two Teensy-Weensy Legal Reforms.”

Every...

6 Questions About the Vegas Massacre

Survival Saturday is a round-up of the week’s news and resources for folks who are interested in being prepared.

This Week in the News

You know, I tried to keep from going full-on tinfoil with the Las Vegas massacre, but they’re making that completely impossible.

Sure, there were questions from the very beginning. A lot of things didn’t quite add up, but there is an investigatory process in such events. But… how is it that every single thing has been upended? This story is unraveling like a f...

The Endgame of Financialization

This is the new model of nationalization: central banks control the valuation of private-sector assets without actually having to own them lock, stock and barrel.

As you no doubt know, central banks don’t actually print money and toss it out of helicopters; they create a digital liability and use this new currency to buy assets such as bonds and stocks. Central banks have found that they can take control of the stock and bond markets by buying up as much as these markets as is necessary to fo...

Don’t Store Your Gold in Any Bank in Any Country

Don’t hold gold in a Swiss Bank or in any bank in any country. We regularly see examples both in medium sized and big Swiss banks that should make bank clients very concerned. Here are some examples:

A client stores physical gold in a bank but when he wants us to organise a transfer to private vaults, the gold doesn’t exist and the bank must acquire it. 400 oz gold bars that were bought by the bank for the client in 2005, were cast in 2011, so the gold never existed. A client stores gold in...

Obama’s Auto Time Bomb

In just seven years’ time – unless Trump does something before his four years are up – the average fuel efficiency of the average car will have to almost double. From 35.5 MPG (now) to 54.5 MPG by 2025. So reads the fuel economy fatwa issued by Trump’s predecessor.

No matter how much it costs, no matter what it takes.

To put this in perspective, as of 2018, there is only one car available that is capable of meeting the 2025 “goal” – as these forced-on-us things are styled: It is the Toyota Pr...

Hanoi Jottings

With only a week and a half in Hanoi, I’ve been out and about almost nonstop. This article, then, is being jotted down at 5:11AM, as I’m lying in bed on my stomach at the Letters Home guesthouse. Stuck in a grim alley in an unfashionable neighborhood, it’s not exactly popular, so about the only noises I’ve heard in Letters Home came from my air conditioner or fan. Only rarely does a motorbike beeping, car honking or dog barking reach me.

Generally speaking, overseas Vietnamese are not allowed...

The Unraveling of American/Russian Relations

Dear Readers: I agree that the official Las Vegas story seems to be unraveling. A public mass shooting should be transparent, not opaque. I think we explored the story long enough to discover that without knowing the facts, we cannot arrive at an explanation with confidence.

It is time to move on to another unraveling—that of US/Russian relations. This unraveling is far more serious as it threatens life on earth. I have warned of the consequences of Washington threatening Russia’s security by...

Not Catalonia

Catalonia’s separatist campaign has dominated European headlines for the past couple of weeks, but it’s really the northern Belgian region of Flanders which will serve as a barometer over whether large chunks of the EU will fall apart into a collection of identity-centric statelets prior to the bloc’s reconstitution into a “federation of regions”.

What’s going on in Catalonia is of paramount importance to the geopolitical future of Europe, since it could very well serve as the catalyst for fr...

Socialism Is a Corpse

Socialism was a specific philosophy of government ownership of the means of production.

The democratic welfare state was never a variety of socialism. Marx, the most famous socialist, despised democracy. He despised all attempts at economic amelioration through legislation. He wanted a proletarian revolution. He preached — the correct verb — a religion of revolution. That was the thesis of my first book, Marx’s Religion of Revolution (1968). You can download it here.

He was silent about how t...
