Never Go to a Family Movie
I rarely see a modern “family movie” (since they are usually decidedly anti-family), but as it was one of my children’s birthdays, we went to see “The LEGO Ninjago Movie.” How could a movie about Lego ninjas be anti-family? I took a chance. Well, it was as bad as they come.
From the very beginning, the father was the caricature of an evil uncaring absentee dad. To drive the point home (in case you missed it), they went the extra mile and gave him devil horns, red eyes, dressed him in blac...
I Love Hans Hoppe!
NO! NOT THAT WAY! If that’s what I meant, he would have to “physically remove” me from his (virtual) neighborhood!
I love his intellect, the way he creates the dots that he thereafter connects, his directness, and his very dry and wonderfully refined sense of humor.
It was Hans Hoppe (more precisely, someone who challenged me to challenge Hans Hoppe) that accelerated my interest in what has become the most intellectually satisfying topic that I pursue via this blog, that of libertarians and...

The NFL Protests
Justin: Doug, I can’t wait to get your take on the recent NFL protests. But first tell me what you think of the National Anthem. Is it a worthy tradition?
Doug: I don’t see what sporting events have to do with nationalism. I don’t think they should go together.
The idea of playing a national anthem at sporting events or other gatherings is foolish and dangerous. It elevates the notion of the state, it keeps the presence of the government in front of people. It’s almost as bad an idea as havin...
Computerized Genocide
Introduction by Douglas Valentine
Michael Maclear’s 1975 documentary, Spooks and Cowboys, Gooks and Grunts (Part 1) is more relevant now than ever. Forty-two years after its release, it exposes the suppressed, shameful truths that have corrupted America since the Vietnam War. The documentary makes it perfectly clear that “we” have always known what was going on – and that “we” have perfected the means of denying and obfuscating it.
Maclear’s documentary stands in stark contrast to the current...
Suffering From Fall Allergies?
If you think allergies are just a spring and summer problem, then unfortunately, you’d be wrong. Many allergy sufferers can equally be a bad time for itchy watery eyes, sneezing, and plugged ears. This year in particular, many allergy sufferers are finding their allergies are not only worse but lingering for longer. You can blame climate change on this. If you haven’t noticed it seems that the warmer weather has stuck around for longer which increases carbon dioxide which allows for allergy-p...
America and Zion
America’s Great Game: The CIA’s Secret Arabists and the Shaping of the Modern Middle East, by Hugh Wilford.
Americans had ventured into the Arab world for many decades prior to the end of World War Two. Much of this time, the interaction was driven by private means: missionaries, universities, archeologists, charitable organizations. For those Americans exposed to this world, the overwhelming description that could be applied would be to label these as Arabists: understanding and appreciati...
The Writing’s on the Wall
In light of the 30-year anniversary of the Black Monday Crash in 1987 (when the Dow lost more than 20% in “one day”, we should be reminded that investor anxiety usually increases when markets get to extremes. If stock prices fall steeply, people fret about money lost, and if they move too high too fast, they worry about sudden reversals. As greed is supposed to be counterbalanced by fear, this relationship should not be surprising. But sometimes the formula breaks down and stocks become very...
Liberalism Is Suicidism
Asked to name the defining attributes of the America we wish to become, many liberals would answer that we must realize our manifest destiny since 1776, by becoming more equal, more diverse and more democratic — and the model for mankind’s future.
Equality, diversity, democracy — this is the holy trinity of the post-Christian secular state at whose altars Liberal Man worships.
But the congregation worshiping these gods is shrinking. And even Europe seems to be rejecting what America has on of...
Ron Paul Rages
In a new interview with host Jesse Ventura at RT, former presidential candidate and House of Representatives Member Ron Paul discusses the harm imposed on the American economy by the succession of US wars over the last few decades, from the Korean War onward, that drain money away from prosperity-building activities in America.
“Just think if all the money we have spent overseas since World War II ended, if that money had been left in this country to let wealth grow,” proposes Paul.
Had that...
Half-Baked Brief for Empire
Senator John McCain, never one to play it close to the vest, has amped up his criticism of the Trump administration’s foreign policy, calling it a “half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems.”
Quoted fully:
To fear the world we have organized and led for three quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain “the last best h...
