Most Americans Distrust the Official Tale

Nearly 54 years on from President John F. Kennedy’s assassinationtens of thousands of documents are set to shed more light on what happened in Dallas that day, with President Trump excited…

The long anticipated release of the #JFKFiles will take place tomorrow. So interesting!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 25, 2017

As Statista’s Niall McCarthy notes,  conspiracy theories about the assassination continue to circulate and few events in modern history have been enshrouded the p...

Fats Domino, RIP

Fats Domino died on October 25, 2017. He was 89.

Fats was the pioneer of rock and roll. People who came of age after 1954 forget this. Actually, my generation never knew it. “The Fat Man” was released in December 1949. It eventually sold a million copies. But it did not sell to the likes of us in 1950. It was not called rock and roll in 1949. It was called race music. It did not get onto pop music radio. From the day I heard it in 1956 at age 14, when I worked in a West Coast record store, I...

10 Greatest Movie MacGuffins

Alfred Hitchcock gave name to a literary and film device called a MacGuffin (sometimes spelled “McGuffin”), which is any object or device that serves to trigger the plot. This boils down to anything that sets the plot in motion or keeps it going in one direction or another. In terms of Hitchcock, the birds were the MacGuffin in . . . well, The Birds and he used others like Norman Bates’s mother in Psycho to keep things going.

While he may have coined the term, Hitchcock wasn’t the only one to...

Benefits of Beets

When it comes to healthy foods, it’s hard to beat beets. The nutrition facts for beets don’t lie. They are a powerhouse of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that are great for your health—antioxidants and fiber just to name two. Beets support heart health, liver detoxification, brain health, and much more. If it’s been a while since you tried some fresh beets or energy-boosting beet juice, then it’s time to get back in the habit of enjoying the many health benefits of this colorful vege...

The Absurdities Mount

In my October 23 column, “The American Left: RIP,” I pointed out that political correctness now bans the use of the words “pregnant woman.”

One might think it difficult to exceed such absurdity, but a University of Illinois professor has managed to carry political correctness to new heights of absurdity by delcaring mathematics to be the language of “white privilege.”

Why stop there? What about physics and chemistry? What about the English language itself which has established its hegemony as...

Experience the Brand

New York City is probably the least car-friendly place in the United States. Its streets are perpetually gridlocked and garage fees cost more than rent in other parts of the country. Most people who live in the city don’t even own cars and regard them as an occasionally necessary nuisance. Mostly, they hail a cab. Or they walk or take the subway.

So it makes perfect sense for a major car company to relocate the headquarters of its luxury division there.

Right?

Well, yes – in a way. The new wa...

Tax Day

The Libertarian Forum, edited by Murray N. Rothbard; April 15, 1969.  Just a tidbit for this post in my ongoing review of this compilation.

April 15, that dread Income Tax day, is around again, and gives us a chance to ruminate on the nature of taxes and of the government itself.

The first great lesson to learn about taxation is that taxation is simply robbery. No more and no less.

This who claim that taxation is, in some mystical sense, really “voluntary” should have no qualms about getting...

The Clintons’ Paid-For Dirty Dossier

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund political research into Donald Trump that ultimately produced a dossier of allegations about his ties to Russia, a person familiar with the matter told the Associated Press on Tuesday night.

The revelation is likely to fuel complaints by Trump that the dossier, which the president has derided as “phony stuff”, is a politically motivated collection of salacious claims. Yet the FBI has worked to corroborat...

Alabama Bill Would Eliminate Marriage Licenses

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Oct. 23, 2017) – A bill prefiled in the Alabama Senate would abolish marriage licenses in the state and effectively nullify in practice both major sides of the contentious national debate over government-sanctioned marriage.

Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Bay Minette) prefiled Senate Bill 13 (SB13) in September. The legislation would abolish all requirements to obtain a marriage license in Alabama. Instead, probate judges would simply record civil contracts of marriage between two i...

Marc Faber, Freedom of Speech, & Capitalism

Political Correctness Hampers Honest Debate

What would the world be like today had Europeans never colonized Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and South Asia?

Sargon learns about African history and culture at the American Museum of Natural History. Regardless of whether one considers Dr. Faber’s remarks insensitive, it can hardly be doubted that they were correct in the context they were made in.
