The Spread of E-Bikes and E-Scooters will take us into the Third World
This is Peter Hitchenss Mail on Sunday column
I think that I shall meet my fate somewhere upon a London street, splatted on a pavement or a pedestrian crossing by an electric bike or an electric scooter. I used to think I would probably be killed while riding my bicycle, and it is still a risk, but you can take precautions against that. It is far harder to guard against this silent speedy danger.
I experience or witness more and more near misses involving these horrible vehicles. Recently...

For the Dogged and Determined only. I reply to Professor Ben Burgis
In a column for Jacobin magazine, Professor Ben Burgis has issued a response to my passing remark in a Mail on Sunday column https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-11848611/PETER-HITCHENS-End-crude-smear-against-conservatives.html ...
that the Nazis were left-wing. You might have thought from the inflamed reaction I received that I had said that left-wingers were Nazis, which I do not believe and did not say. I was even accused, madly and falsely, of denying the Holocaust.

The Country was Misled on a Vital Matter - and it Wasn't Johnson's Parties
The inflated grandees of Parliaments Privileges Committee are currently pondering the vast issue of whether Al Boris Johnson misled the Commons about some office parties.
I care little for Mr Johnson, but one has to ask why these persons do not investigate themselves for their utter failure to prevent a gross abuse of power by the government during Covid. They failed to challenge policies which smashed the economy to pieces, launched an uncontrollable storm of inflation, wrecked t...

A Review of Katja Hoyer's fascinating new book on East Germany 'Beyond the Wall'
Review of Beyond the Wall: East Germany 1949-1990 by Katja Hoyer. Allen Lane 25
East Germany was a filthy, malevolent little state created and run by wicked men and women in the service of the monster, Stalin. Take for example the Purple Witch, as East Germans referred to their Education Minister Margot Honecker. This woman, with her famously tinted locks, just happened to be married to the countrys shrieky-voiced little despot, Erich Honecker. And she stole the children of...
A Good week for Gloating? Alas, not. 20 years after the Iraq War, what can those of us who opposed it now say?
This is Peter Hitchens's Mail on Sunday Column
I had thought this would be a good week for gloating, twenty years after so many fools supported the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq or (in many ways more shamefully) failed to oppose it. Heres what I said on this page almost exactly 20 years ago, refusing to drop my opposition to the war just because troops had gone in.
This is not a war for national survival in which we all have to pull together and hush our doubts or be subjugated ...
