The Man who Invented Sex Education - and His Real Reason for Inventing It
This is Peter Hitchens's Mail on Sunday Column
Who invented sex education? Since we now have so much of it that we can barely escape it, it seems a reasonable question. This is even more important now that we know it does not work. Last weeks appalling figures for Syphilis and Gonorrhea cases - pretty much the worst in modern times - showed beyond doubt that Sex Ed has not prevented the spread of sexual diseases. The same is so of the huge abortion figures (do you remember when they sai...

Leaving America out of the Title of this Book on the Ukraine War is like Leaving the Hound out of the Baskervilles
My review of Serhii Plokhy's new book on Ukraine, The Russo-Ukrainian War in today's Mail on Sunday
Even the title of this book is wrong. It describes a war between Russia and America, on the soil of Ukraine. Yet it calls it The Russo-Ukrainian War. Without the deep, decades-long involvement of the USA, and without its military aid, Ukraine would not be able to fight and Russia would not have invaded Ukraine. To leave America out of the title is like leaving the Hound out of the...

PETER HITCHENS: We can't defend people in their own homes, so how can we posture as a great power?
This is Peter Hitchens's Mail On Sunday column
The most idyllic years of my dreamy, untroubled childhood were spent in a Portsmouth suburb called Alverstoke, a place of peace, calm and order, tree-shaded and secluded far from the raucous clangour and bomb-scorched rough edges of Pompey itself.
It never crossed our mind that violence could happen there.
My brother and I roamed freely around the village and down to the nearby sea.
So I have never quite got over the moment when I read, in 1992,...

What DO they Teach Them in these schools? It's Time to Try to Find Out About Classroom Propaganda
This is Peter Hitchens's Mail on Sunday Column
Whatever do they teach them in these schools? How do we find out? How can we change it if we do not like it? In the past few years it has become clear that the schools of this country, state and private, have been invaded by left-wing dogmas, dogmas it is dangerous to challenge. For they are enforced, hard, with the backing of a supposedly Conservative government.
For example, you do not need to like or agree with the former Oxford state s...

Do we Really Need More Young Voters? How About More Votes for the Old? Plus, William Hague is Not at This Address.
This is Peter Hitchens's Mail on Sunday column
Why do people think that, the more of us who have the vote, the more democratic and free a country will be? In Cuba, you can vote at 16, but only for the grisly Castro regime. You can vote at 16 in Scotland, too, and look where that has got them. Highly-democratic Taiwan, by contrast, does not let you vote till you are 20. I favour 40.
I was one of the very first to vote at 18, in the 1970 general election, and I thought then as I thi...
