MPs who destroy the jobs of others should lose theirs... so I beg and urge you to write to yours, says PETER HITCHENS
This is Peter Hitchenss Mail on Sunday column
The prisoner eventually learns to be grateful to his captors for almost anything. Once he has accepted his position as powerless victim, even the things he used to count as normal become luxuries.
So it is with most of us. Since we marched obediently into captivity last spring, we have turned servile. Look at us now, arguing about whether we should be in one tier of absurd limits on our lives, or another.
We are like convicts complaining that...

Vote Blue, get Green, Vote Red , get Green, Vote Yellow, get Green - Why do they bother having a Green Party?
This is Peter Hitchenss Mail on Sunday column
Vote Blue, get Green. Vote Red, get Green. Vote Yellow, get Green. Vote SNP, get Green. I wonder why they bother even having an actual Green Party.
So in yet another way, Britain is coming more and more to resemble the old East Germany. Really? Yes.
The East Berlin commissars would have applauded our frenzied desire to rip small children from the arms of their mothers and stuff them into nurseries while their parents marched off to work.

PETER HITCHENS: Our panicking Prime Minister is bankrupting Britain
This is Peter Hitchens Mail on Sunday column
How extraordinary that the Johnson Government, while in serious money trouble, chooses to spend billions on a vaccine against a disease which in many cases has no symptoms at all.
Yet this peculiar decision is a mere ripple on the surface of a much deeper problem. Britain in 2020 has many economic difficulties, but good credit. The lenders and investors of the world believe the UK is run by responsible people and will repay its debts.
But my as...

Republished : The Nonsense of the 'Special Relationship'
Speaking at a splendid Buckingham Palace dinner, the President of the United States told the assembled great and good:
You must not speak of us who come over here as cousins, still less as brothers; we are neither. Neither must you think of us as Anglo-Saxons, for that term can no longer be rightly applied to the people of the US. Nor must too much importance in this connection be attached to the fact that English is our common language no, there are only two things which can establish...

PETER HITCHENS: I will never forgive the clowns who cancelled Remembrance Sunday
This is Peter Hitchens Mail on Sunday column
Normally I would go this morning to a small village war memorial and stand in the cold November air while we prayed a little, sang O God, Our Help In Ages Past, and observed the usual silence between bugle calls.
But a few weeks ago, I was told this was impossible. Apparently we would all be too close together, or something. So the event was to be switched to a nearby cemetery, where we could all stand a long way from each other.
There will ...
